Saitek PK02AU Keyboard

This keyboard is nice for the average person. I am a production typist and the touch/response was not fast enough for me. I probably would not recommend it, but then I'm having a hard time finding any keyboard now that is made very good. Most wear my wrists out because the touch is too hard.
Awesome KeyBoard ! I love it and you will too

I just got my Saitek Eclipse II Keyboard today and it is awesome! There are no cons just pro. The keys are wonderful and quite, the illumination is awesome it is not at all dim like some of the people are writing about. I had a Logitech that I totally hated because the keys were really hard to press. This is an easy to use keyboard with cool illumination. I would recommend it to anyone.
Some issues, but overall really nice

Overall, I'm glad I got this keyboard. The lighting is GREAT for late night sessions when you don't want/need the whole room illuminated. I find that I stick to the blue light at most times, and switch to red when it gets really late. I think it's easier on your eyes at night; doesn't leave "ghosts" in your vision.
I have been having some issues with the letters wearing out. The way the key lighting works is that the keys are made of a transparent material and painted black with the letters a semi-transparent film. The problem is the film and black paint wear/scratch off over time on some keys. I plan to contact the company to see if I can get replacements. One other issue is the "R" key is loosing it's sensitivity and so I have to backtrack to re-type it a lot. Will also ask about that.
Apart from that it's really nice. No other keyboards like it, from what I've found.
If you need a basic keyboard, this is the one for you.

This review is for the Saitek Eclipse II back-lit keyboard, not to be confused with the earlier version, the Eclipse I. The most notable difference is that v.1 had a problem with key letters wearing off, this does not.
Moving onto the keyboard, it's a very basic keyboard with all the standard keys.
LED's for NumLock, Scroll, and CapsLock.
Media keys: Forward, Back, Play/Pause, Stop, Vol Up, Vol Down.
Backlight color toggle-key: Blue, Red, and Violet are your options.
A scroll-wheel changes the brightness of the backlight. It can go from off to full-on, but the amount it can be dimmed is slightly limited. I find it's more effective to just switch it to red if you want it dimmer since that's a softer color.
The keys are very comfortable and hold up well. I've not had mine for over two years and it's still going strong. Action is very well balanced in my opinion, not clunky at all while still having a good tactile feel to them.
It comes with two fold out angle-adjustments for the back height, giving you the option of having it flush, slightly raised, or noticably raised. It also comes with snap on wrist-rest that has several different lengths it can be set to. I would prefer a padded wrist-rest, but it does it's job.
This keyboard is a workhorse. It doesn't have fancy buttons and extras, just the basic necessities. And at that it excels. There are keyboards out there with more buttons and options, but you'll pay considerably more for that. This is a great keyboard for someone who just wants a good, reliable keyboard without distracting buttons etc...
It is what you expect from a keyboard.

This keyboard has nothing special to it, but it has nothing wrong either. The keys are responsive, accurate and comfortable to type with. For normal use, this keyboard is very good. It's a little big, but offsets that by being quite comfortable. The only thing that I don't particularly like is the media controls on the top right corner. They could have had a better design to support a more fluid management of volume and the like, though it's a minor flaw.
You can control the brightness of the keyboard's backlight. At maximum settings, you can browse through the keys easily at night, though it's not overly bright. It doesn't look excessive either, which is a good thing for me.
Now, for gaming, the quality of this keyboard is very relative. You don't get any special macro keys, LED displays, special key layouts, or anything else that would help you somehow on a game. This could be a huge impediment for a gamer, or it couldn't. It all depends on what the gamer expects from the keyboard. Personally, this keyboard does everything I need it to do during my gaming sessions. I mainly play MMORPG type of games, and I haven't found how this keyboard can incapacitate me in any way whatsoever while playing them. There's a fine line between useful and useless features.
So far it has given me no trouble of any form, and I would consider it a good buy, though not a product that changed my past experience dramatically. Like most electronic products, it's an evolution from normal keyboards, not a revolution.
Cool keyboard!

As a CAD drafter I like to work in subdued light. The Saitek Eclipse 2 is a very cool tool for working in the dark. Having the 3 different color options is nice for a change of pace. The keys have a good feel and function very well. I do wish that Saitek made a "natural" style of this same model.

I Love this keyboard. I bought one last year and my best friend stole it because he thought it was the coolest thing he's ever seen. So now i had to buy another. The keyboard is increadibly durable. I have dumped an entire can of beer in the keyboard and it still works 100% lights and keys.
opinions on Saitek Eclipse II keyboard

I reviewed keyboards online before placing my order with Amazon for the Saitek Eclipse II keyboard. I did not want the ergonomic one with all the curves in it. I also didn't need all the special gaming controls. Although it is personal preference, I did want a keyboard design that had a large backspace key. And finally I didn't want a wireless keyboard (call me an old timer!)
I am happy with my purchase of the Saitek Eclipse II keyboard. First I love it for the illuminated keys. I have a little hard time seeing keys in my dark office yet I don't like all the lights on in the office since it is too bright. Now I can work in total darkness since the keys really show nicely. I also am happy that the keyboard isn't light or flimsy. It feels solid. The cord from the keyboard to the PC is long enough to reach and then some. And I didn't need to install anything since Windows XP Pro recognized the keyboard immediately. Finally I though the cost was reasonable for what I got.
Some opinions of items I would change are:
(1) I would make the tilt adjustment a little greater....right now the incline you can add to the keyboard isn't as great as I would like.
(2) I would add a softer foldout wrist rest pad to the unit. The one that comes with the keyboard is only molded plastic.
I do want to add a note that Amazon shipped this unit much faster than I had expected. Since this isnt' the only time I've ordered from Amazon and it isn't the only time an item has come so fast, I believe they should be noted for their speedy response.
hope this helps.
Perfect for Me....

Just recieved this today so I cannot comment on the key wear issue, but the keyboard is very solid compared to any other I have used. The backlighting is strong enough for me; (I am typing now with the monitor as the only light in the room). I do not use this keyboard for gaming, so I cannot comment on that, but for ordinary typing, and surfing, it is perfect....AND FUN TOO! I have read that the late-production keyboards have been upgraded to prevent key wear...let's see; but even if they do wear, the company will gladly replace any worn keys for free...for me, at least, the look and feel of this keyboard is so nice that I don't care about replacing keys if I have too. Sofar as keystrokes, it has a perfect balance of travel and spring..."quiet keys" are nice too. GO 4 IT!

Great product and love using it! I have had it for about 2 months and have not had any technical problems with it.
