But it's not just the broad geographical coverage that makes the TomTom ONE special. The user-friendly design also puts it a step above other navigation systems. The crystal-clear multicolor display makes for exceptionally easy viewing of maps, routes, driving directions, and other traveling information, such as mileage and distance. Measuring 3.5 inches, the TFT display offers a resolution of 320 x 240 to provide brilliant two- and three-dimensional graphics. The device also features 32 MB RAM and 380 MHz CPU, making it responsive and zippy. Using the USB port and the provided cable, you can use your PC to add your own points of interest.

ONE provides clear and accurate turn-by-turn voice instructions, so that you don't have to take your eyes off the road while your vehicle is on the move. Voice instructions are issued at a speed-sensitive volume, so as your vehicle's engine becomes louder or quieter as your speed changes, the volume adjusts itself accordingly, guaranteeing clear and easy listening. And because voice instructions are available in over 30 languages, just about anyone will find the TomTom ONE to be an invaluable system.

With its touch-sensitive screen, the TomTom ONE puts programming and operation literally at your fingertips to make sophisticated technology simple. The built-in database offers thousands of points of interest for you to use as destinations or reference points as you plan your trip. ONE will also provide a selection of available routes, giving you the option of avoiding toll roads or choosing between the quickest or the most scenic routes. The database includes zip codes to simplify your route selection, and for extra convenience, the TomTom ONE lets you save the addresses of frequent destinations, making route planning easier and faster than ever. Other display features include a compass mode to assist you with directional orientation, and an anti-glare screen for optimal viewing even in direct sunlight.

For additional navigational features to assist with trip planning, the built-in Bluetooth connection provides access to TomTom PLUS subscription-based services, so that you can tune in to the latest traffic and weather conditions, as well as download additional city maps, voices, points of interest, and much more.

Weighing less than 10 ounces and measuring 4.33 x 3.5 x 1.34 inches, the TomTom ONE can be easily installed in any vehicle. An included windshield suction mount holds it in place. Plus, with an operating temperature range of an icy -10 degrees to a sweltering 55 degrees Celsius (14 to 131 degrees Fahrenheit), the navigator is durable enough for New England winters or Arizona summers. The TomTom ONE is powered by an internal lithium ion battery that can be charged from your vehicle's cigarette lighter with the included 12-24V adapter.

STAY AWAY FROM TOM TOM 2008-07-15
If you want a good product stay away from Tom Tom products. I have used 3 different products from tom tom and maybe I'm a slow learner or tom tom has bad products, just stay away from tom tom so many better gps units to buy that are better. Not worth the money, bought a download and it turned out to be the wrong one and they will not fix the problem or give a refund. STAY AWAY FROM TOM TOM

Good Value 2008-07-12
A good unit for the money. If you want basic navigation with a few bells and whistles, this unit will do the job. I haven't made a wrong turn yet.

Great portable GPS! 2008-07-01
I just purchased the TomTom One portable GPS system. I have a very good internal sense of direction and I can read a map just fine but in New Jersey traffic, who can be bothered with that? I hate getting lost on busy roads and I often take long road trips to other states. This is a great device because it will talk you through your route, when to turn, it shows the names of the roads, etc. Another feature I love for road trips is when you get tired and need to stop you can push a button and the TomTom will show landmarks of all the local hotels and gas stations along your route. It will also show you local attractions and places of interest if you choose. I use it all the time, even at home. The funny thing is that we just built our home last year and because the development is so new it does not pick up on the GPS so when I turn down my road it just shows me driving into a dirt field! LOL. Other than that it is my most favorite new electronic device.

where am I 2008-06-12
My 1st experience with gps took me to the Twin Cities to look at a used Jeep. I looked at the road atlas before I left my house in central Wisconsin and got an overall sense of which roads to take when I got into the Cities. I fully intended on bringing my atlas, but I forgot it. Oh well, I borrowed my dad's Tom Tom One. I knew how to get to the Twin Cities without a map anyway, and the TomTom had the address programed into it.

TomTom got to the Twin cities flawlessly! I could have done that myself though. The problem was that the interchange for interstate/bypasses was being re-constructed in the city limits. The actual turn was opposite of what TomTom had in its maps. Things change, thats fine, it would not have been a problem had TomTom said "exit left I-490 North" instead of "exit left 500 yards" . It got me kind of lost, had I not looked at a map before leaving I would have been completely lost!! I ended up going with what I partially remembered from the atlas.

I have since tried other gps units (Magellan Crossover) and found it far superior because it tells you the proper name of the street you are turning onto. Oh and the Canada map on the Crossover is much more complete. The road to my dads cabin is on does not exist accorind to TomTom. It may be better than nothing... sometimes.

My dad has about the same opinion of the TomTom, in fact we borrowed it 4 months ago and he has not asked for it back! I purchased a Garmin gpsmaps 60csx after reading reviews here on Amazon.
I liked the Magellan Crossover too when I used it, it was a hard purchasing decision.

Bought as a present 2008-06-04
I Bought this for my niece's graduation present. She is on her way this Fall to go to Law school and is not to familiar with Tenn.

She was thrilled with it, and learned to use it quickly. She told me several of her friends want one now.

Trust the TomTom 2008-04-30
I live down South so here in SC the roads don't change much and so the TomTom seems much more accurate to us hicks than you sissyfied city folk. Ok I'm only kidding but the TomTom seems very accurate to me. I only use it on long trips (100 or more miles) and if I have to go somewhere downtown and I'm not familiar where the place is. I've learned to pretty much trust the TomTom but it always seems to falter at the last couple of buildings. But, it does get you where you want to go. The TomTom loves the interstate so it always guides you there even if you know a shorter route from experience. I gave it four stars because it works well for what you pay. I've had mine about 6 months.

TOMTOM ONE 2008-04-18
I cant imagine how I ever got along without my TOMTOM all these years, makes traveling fun and is easy to operate. The one draw back is that on this model you have to pay for map updates and that can run into some money.

Very buggy software -Californians Beware! 2008-04-16
We bought this device about a year ago in North Carolina where it had a so-so performance. We started to notice some software problems, but nothing too severe at the time. Then, later that year, we moved to the Bay area and that's when the device really started failing.

Apparently TomTom thought a solid software design involves rebooting the device when it loses GPS. As soon as we hit an overpass, the device goes blank and it takes an exotic combination of pressing the start button, removing the power cable and re-inserting the memory card a couple of times to get it to work again.... until the next overpass. The couple of times it does manage to reboot by itself, it quietly reverts back to a random previously entered destination, causing us to suddenly get detoured and ending up driving in the completely wrong direction.

We have updated the software multiple times, but it does not seem to make a difference. Somehow it works better in Arizona and North Carolina, but performance in California is abysmal.

The maps are ok, if a bit outdated. The directions can be outright confusing, but once you understand what the voice *really* means and you start to selectively ignore what she says, you can get to your destination fairly easily.

I have read the stories about the terrible customer service, so we're not even going to bother trying to get our $200 back or getting the device repaired. We're switching to Garmin soon and this one will end up in the trash where it belongs.

Very useful 2008-04-14
I have found the Tom Tom very useful when traveling locally and across states. It seems very up to date with the roads and various routes. The only down side is that sometimes in very built up areas, i.e major cities there is a slight delay finding a GPS signal due to the buildings. But apart from that I have had no problems with this item and have found it to be a great help when traveling.
