Intuit is greedy and ignorant, hope they face compatition
2007-05-26
I am using QB Premium 2006 now and just upgraded my PC to Vista.
I did not imagine that QB2006 was not compatible with Vista (my fault not to check) and no upgrades are available and Intuit is not planning any, recommending to upgrade to 2007 version.
$300+ annual upgrade seems too expensive!
Software is good, but not great and there is no justification for the price, except greed. With so many users, Intuit should be able to provide upgrade compatible with Vista for less...
Looking around for competitive packages - MS Office Accounting looks good (and MUCH less expensive) - I'll check that one out!
Great for small businesses

The Premier Edition of Quickbooks is worth every penny. If you assemble a product from inventory parts like I do, this is the edition to get. The main reason for using Quickbooks is that instead of feeding your paperwork to your accountant, you feed it to Quickbooks first. Beware, you need one of the many Quickbooks reference books such as Quickbooks for Dummies in addition to the small booklet that comes with the software unless you are extremely well versed in accounting. Also, if you make a sample company for practice, it is nearly impossible, if not impossible, to delete it unless you delete the entire program and reload it. This shouldn't be an issue, but everytime you open Quickbooks, you will see all the companies that have been created.
Review of QuickBooks Premier Edition 2007
2007-05-13
For the most part, this update is helpful. It still does not present a format for statements that, to my mind, works well in a church. There is confusion on the part of statement recipients when their statement reflects a negative balance due to paying in more than pledged or making donations without a pledge.
Moving into a new program always presents challenges. I feel confident that, after a few more months, it will be more easily used. The support system works reasonably well.
the worst
2007-05-08
The worst upgrade ever. Please stop making me upgrade to newer, slower, more memory intensive applications that bog down my computer and don't work as well as what they were meant to replace. I would have stuck with qbooks 2005 (or 2003) if they hadn't stopped supporting payroll for them.
Quickbooks Pro 2007 SLOW SLOW SLOW
2007-05-02
Truly unbelievable. I was forced to upgrade to 2007 to maintain payroll services. I bought it and can no longer work. My data file exploded in size. For example, I started backing up my file 15 minutes ago and it's still in "verifying data" mode (backup used to take about 2 minutes tops). I can't do anything in the books. I'm paralyzed. I've tried every "solution" I could find in every group and support and blog site on in the internet. DO NOT BUY THIS VERSION UNTIL THEY FIGURE OUT WHAT THEY'VE DONE TO MAKE THE FILE SIZE EXPLODE AND FIX IT. IF YOU ARE NEW TO BOOKKEEPING, GO ELSEWHERE. If you are like me - an eight-year quickbooks (l)user, well, I don't know. I'm completely at a loss.
No emailing invoices without Purchasing Business Services
2007-08-12
You would think that simply emailing an invoice to your clients would be a standard feature. However this is not the case. The option to 'Email Invoice' is available, but when chosen, launches browser and attempts to log into Intuit Business Services wherein the Login Failed, service not supported.
Also, the invoice templates are ugly, amateurish looking and not easily customizable.
At this price you would expect more. This software is definitely for the novice business user. Use Peachtree or MS Small Business Accounting instead.
Network support is sadly lacking
2007-07-13
We use QB Premier 2007 on a network and I have to say the network support for QB is astonishingly crude. It doesn't use a true server or database engine so we are always forced to switch to single user mode to delete any records or items, and the "gateway" PC has to be up and running with QB open to even allow any "network" access at all. Rather hard to fathom for a 2007 product from a company with a great reputation. I have been using Quicken at home for 10+ years and have been disappointed with how the business version is not as well implemented as the home version... One example: even on a net with multiple users you get one "email contact" for your entire company which applies to all customers... so you can't have an employee dedicated to a given customer, and have all emails to that customer come from that employee. Forms generation (quotes, invoices, etc) could be better. You can't use different fonts for customer name and address and all the item data in the form, for example.
Another headache is trying to synchronize with an online store. We looked at the available solutions and finally settled on the ShopSite cart with the new (it's in beta now) ShopSite synch tool for $200. It's not a perfect solution but works acceptably. Others we tried had issues with discount codes, etc.
Another thing which was a pain to set up but now works well is online bank account synch. Our bank's IT dept was great (Zions Bank) and now we can synch all our accounts - something we could not do with $18,000 per year NetSuite. This is a huge time saver.
We paid for the extra phone support ($300/year) and once we finally get through to someone who is knowledgeable, we've gotten good help with some tricky issues (related to bank account synch for example).
This could be a great product. Lets hope Intuit fixes the irritations and improves network support.
Anything for a buck

Don't expect your version of Quicken to last long. Unlike almost all other software developers, the folks at Quicken seem to look for ways to make their product out of date so they have to be repurchased. And then they don't even offer upgrades, you have to buy the whole thing over again. Avoid getting into this system. If you do, plan on renewing it ever couple years at a high cost.
Great for your business

Quickbooks is a great accounting software for your business. Just keep in mind that if you have no experience with accounting software that there will probably be a big learning curve and you might want to invest in some of the manuals and guides before taking something like this on. If you are already running anything other than Peachtree then you are going to love this software.

I found this product to be very adequate in its performance and it is very easy to install and log on to.
