Stunning!!

Sony again demonstrates why they are the leader in electronics.
I was fully set on purchasing a Samsung or a Sharp HDTV until I saw the Sony's line of products, I was blown away by the picture quality.
I was originally going to buy a 42 inch tv but ended up getting a 40 inch instead.
Do yourself a favor and go to a store and see the tv's on display. You will see the difference!!
The picture even looks better when you get it home and tweak with the enormous picture settings that are available.
I initially thought that Sony was going through some tough times with quality and brand image, but with these new line of HDTV's that they are offering, any of those issues will be put to rest.
You won't be dissapointed if you buy this tv ,trust me.
You can also get this tv for under $1300.00, a great value.
If you are looking for a 40 inch 1080p HDTV, look no further this is your set!!
Enjoy!!
Fine image and sound.

No HD needed. And, we quit using our home entertainment system which is a bit older and rarely used ever. We just really enjoy this TV.
Amazing Deal :)

I have ot admit, when my husband mentioned buying the TV on here, i was a little apprehensive, well VERY apprehensive. But then we looked over it, whit white glove shipping, and then of course the price and we couldnt pass it up! :) and i have been so pleased with it! Its amazing the quality! we havent used the monster cables with it as i read on a couple reviews here that it wasnt that big of a dieerence for that much of a price for the cables. however we did use an HDMI cable and at first we couldnt get it to work (because of us, not the Tv, lol, we had it plugged into the wrong one, duh!) and once we got it to work, WOW that quality is jsut amazing! very rarely when its a really dark scene (usually with oilder movies on TV) is seems like the faces are kinda floaty, like you can see them moving, i dont know how to explain it. but its very rarely, that is why we rated it 4 rather than 5 stars. all in all we are EXTREMELY pleased with it. As far as a warranty goes, we ended up getting one through Sony directly, and an very pleased with that decision as well, but you have to make sure to do it within the first month of purchase :)
Worth the money

Really happy with this. I needed a flat screen for freed up space, and I will only buy Sony. Everything I've bought from them has lasted 10+ years without a problem. Once again, they've done a great job here with this unit. The price is phenomenal, the surround sound is superb. The picture, well it rivals plasma, which say alot. It's great for gaming, and you can plug your pc into it, with easy access setup. You need to get the HD cables by the way. Really happy with this one.

Slawomir Stepniewski:
Wow you are an idiot. Let me help you get dressed here....
First off, if you are in the menu why are you worried about the pic behind it? Sony and Samsung have the best pic quality in non-HD, so I would love to see if you got ohhh an LG or HP LCD instead, you would REALLY have something to complain about.
That banner problem you complained about, simply turn off that feature on the TV, if you have HD-Service, it's a non issue anyways.
The guide button was not meant to be a cable guide, it refers to the menu guide of the TV itself... use some common sense would ya?
"No EPG (electronic program guide) - if you want use free-to-air broadcast, SONY TV sets are unable to take advantage of the programming information sent by stations".... hmmm well I am not sure if you are stupid or just that irresponsible to post an untrue remark such as this. Yes it does take advantage of over the air descriptions of channels, your stations must not broadcast them.
Second, if you want a usb hookup/memory card reader get a PS3 to go with your TV, TV's aren't meant to be used as a computer, that's the some as complaining that my computer monitor here doesn't microwave my dinner.......
Thirdly, if you do that many pics, get a PS3 and setup a Media Server on your computer and look at your pics from your PS3 on your TV from the media server, it's not that complicated.
Fourthly, cloudy screen?? There must be somthing wrong with yours since mine is not even close to being cloudy.
"Image processing could be better - surprisingly, my external ATSC tuner (HD3150PLUS) that I used for almost for a year with an old CRT TV produces better images on this TV (via HDMI) than the built-in tuner. The responsiveness of the external tuner is also faster so I would use it instead"... umm of course your dedicated box will work better, but since it's built in, you don't have to pay for quite a bit of extra digital channels that you would not normally get with basic cable without a tuner. AKA some digital cable without paying for it.
There is only one coax input for the TV, if you need to hookup an antennea as well as cable, get yourself a A/B switch they are like 10 bucks, who cares?!
If hooking up the cable for your laptop to your TV is such a pain, then leave the cord plugged in the back and tuck it away when you don't use it, how complicated is that?
1080p is by definition a digital signal soooooo being that SVGA cable is analog that doesn't make much sense now does it? In other words, it is not possible with an analog SVGA cable to carry a 1080p digital signal, so your compaint isn't about the TV, its about the capability/limitations of SVGA. Wow, do some homework would ya?
The remote is cheap.. hmm.. ok, what did you expect? It's a dedicated remote for the TV aka a factory remote. Who uses the original remote with their TV on a daily basis? I know I don't, yes maybe every now and then to do some tweaking, but really that's about it.
Everyone needs to get a universal remote anyways.
If SONY had included a universal remote, you would still complain that it doesn't operate or you can't find the code to your LITE-ON shing shong DVD player that no one has ever heard of before or something else to complain about.
The bottom line here folks is to disregard Slawomir Stepniewski review as ameatuer and unqualified.
In reference to non-HD sources, yes of course it's not going to look as good as HD, not even close. But let's face it, HD QUICKLY spoils you.
The good news is if you play your regular DVD's on an upscaler DVD player or PS3 for that matter, they will look really good as long as the movie is a Widescreen DVD. Granted not as good as HD or BluRay, but damn close, and I would venture to say if you are not used to "larger televisions" and are used to a 27" SD tv, you will find yourself rediscovering enjoyment with your regular DVD's even more as long as you play them on an upscaler or PS3.
I have had this TV for several weeks now and couldn't be happier with it. I sort of wish for the 120Hz XBR's for fast action stuff, but hey, I didn't want to spend 2 grand or more for that matter on a TV.
For the features, price, pic quality, I give this TV a 5 out of 5 considering I got it brand new from Amazon.com through http://www.jr.com and payed only $999 for it plus $115 for shipping, 1080P for $999 from SONY? Where do I sign!!!???
Nuff said!!
WARNING - THIS SHIPPER DOES NOT OFFER PRICE PROTECTION!!!
2008-02-27
Please note this review is simply meant to WARN purchasers that the 30-day price protection mentioned in many other reviews is NOT available through Electronic Express, which is currently the designated shipper. I purchased this item and the price dropped the following day; when I contacted Amazon they informed me that this particular shipper does not offer price protection. This was confirmed by Electronic Express. I have not received the tv yet and trust it will be a good purchase, but I was very disappointed about the price protection and probably would have looked for a seller that offered this if I had done my homework more thoroughly (in future I will make sure to click on the shipping policies link for any major purchase rather than rely on reviews). UPDATE: The tv arrived very promptly and well packaged, so the shipper gets high marks other than for the price protection policy. Set-up took me about two hours because I'm not the most tech savvy person, but the picture looks gorgeous, and the set has a nice swivel feature. To those using an antenna, make sure you switch the cable setting to "off" in the menu before performing the auto-tune function. The only drawbacks so far, as others have mentioned, are that the menus take some time to learn and there is a brief delay when switching channels. Amazon won't let me change the number of stars I gave, but I'd certainly give the set itself five stars.
