Pros outweigh the cons
2007-12-18
I do agree with a lot of people in that the hinges for the door are cheaply made and will pop open depending on how you store the cables inside the case.
That said, I haven't found it to be a problem. I'm careful when opening and closing it, and if you bundle up your excess cabling inside (say with a twist tie), it prevents accidental opening. Looks clean and neat, overall much better than loose wires sprawled all over.
It is a lot bigger than it looks in the photos. Take note of the measurements and make sure it will fit in the space you have planned for it.
Simple and Effective

It does exactly what I wanted it to do. Hide the clutter. The best solution out that I've seen.
awesome

Exactly what it says it does. Keeps all the wires concealed and makes the computer room less jumbled. Great product.
Just what I needed - great protection - I bought three of them!
2007-11-20
The first thing you want is great protection. This unit has one of the best protection ratings out there with 4,260 joules of protection, and only 330V for activation (that's the best UL rating there is) in less than 1 nanosecond, which is also the best you can get. Telephone line, ethernet and coax cable protection is also offered. Okay, it does have only one coax provision, so DVR owners can't add that, but you have to ask yourself what the chances are of a lightning strike on your satellite dish. In my case it's basically zip.
If you don't try to cram too many wires into the concealment lid, you should be just fine. Yes, I did buy three of them. One for my home theater system (11 components in all, including widescreen HDTV, HDDVR sat receiver, electronic switcher for component leads, XBox360, OTA antenna preamp, CD changer,DVD1, DVD2, tape deck, AV receiver, VCR) one for my computer system (ethernet, phone, computer, printer, UPS, monitor, external HD, sound system) and one for my other HDTV in a bedroom, HD sat receiver, and a VCR.
One way to solve too many wires in the concelment box is to use a power strip for those wires that would not be in view anyway and plug that into the Belkin.
I did a lot of research on adequate protection for all my electronic gear, and this is what I chose. A great price on Amazon as well, including free shipping. Oh yes, a great warranty as well. I highly recommend it.
Great cord management

This is great for under my computer desk. It helps manage the ganglion of cables I have under there. The door and hinges seem a bit cheap but shouldn't be a problem unless you open and close it a bunch. So just plug in and leave it.
Great Surge Protector if you have kids...
2008-06-04
I bought this surge protector for two reasons, the first being the longer than standard cord, second, I have a one year old that is now mobile and very curious. It is also a nice gray color, not black or yellow like most surge protectors with longer cords. I have had no problems with the product, it serves it's purpose.
Good concept, but flimsy with enormous cord
2008-04-23
I love the concept of this product, but in practice it's proven to be wanting in a few ways.
First, as others have noted, the construction is rather flimsy. So far, for me, this hasn't proven to be a deal breaker, but I could see it being a problem in the future.
Second, and to me, the larger issue, is the length of the cord on the unit itself. As the model number indicates (BZ111234-10) if you know what to look for, there is a 10 FOOT CORD meant to connect the unit to the wall outlet. I don't know who needs a 10 foot cord for their surge protector, but apparently none of the people whose setups appear in Belkin's product photographs. From the promotional photos, you'd get the impression that a short, 3 foot cord connects the surge protector to the wall. Unfortunately, this isn't the case. And since the entire purpose of this product is to CONCEAL the cords, it is decidedly inconvenient to have a huge 10 foot cord hanging off the unit when all you want to do is put it under your desk next to a power outlet.
At the least, Belkin could redesign the product to allow you to spool up the power cord to keep it neatly out of the way. They also seem to have recognized the error of their ways, as the model of the Concealed Surge Protector advertised on their site is BZ111200-06 and has only a 6 foot cord. (Interestingly, they also now have a Small Concealed Surge Protector which is a bit smaller than this model.)
With a bit sturdier construction, and a spool allowing the excess power cord to be stored neatly, this would be a great little product. As it stands, I must give it a qualified recommendation.
Larger than expected, but does what's needed

I think when we first took this out of the box, my wife and I thought it was a good bit bigger than expected (which is why I took off the one star). But now that we've got it set up, we're happy. It looks much neater and more professional than our previous setup, plus it has so many more outlets than the old surge protector did. We also have a cat, and now I think we feel a lot safer when he's wandering behind the TV stand. Overall, I think we're very satisfied.
Cheap

The tiny plastic hinges on mine were broken straight out of the box. I ended up using tape to keep the door shut, and stuck it behind a cabinet.
The only thing I like about it is that you can plug four wall transformers into it without covering up adjecent plugs.
Neat and Compact!!!

I have a tangled mess behind my entertainment center and needed something that would disguise all my wires and this product did the trick. You have plenty of room for your cords and it also looks real nice. Another thing is if you have any indoor pets that like to mess with everything this keeps the cords where they wont be able to bother them.
