Editorial Review
RCA DRC629N 7" Dual Screen Portable DVD Player The RCA DRC629N features two individual seven-inch widescreen LCD displays, so two youngsters can enjoy the same video while sitting in different seats of the car. A single cable connection (included) is all that is needed to connect the second screen. An additional bonus is two headphone jacks so both users can tune in to the full, rich sound of their favorite DVDs, CDs and mp3 discs without disturbing fellow travelers. Designed specifically for automobile use, the DRC629N come with an attachment that makes it simple to secure the dual screens to the back of the car's headrests. This keeps the screens from intruding on front-car space. Users can enjoy playback from virtually all DVD formats including DVD+R/+RW, DVD-R/-RW as well as CD/CD-R/-RW, mp3 CD-R, and mp3 compatible pre-recorded discs. A convenient USB input enables the display of JPEG and music files from most mp3 players, thumb drives, and card readers. Parents will appreciate the units' TV Guardian feature, which scans subtitle data of a DVD disc and mutes the sound when offensive language is indicated. The TV Guardian feature is embedded in the DRC629N and is easy to navigate using the unit's remote control. This unit features audio/video out connections, enabling the user to link the DVD player to a TV, stereo, and other devices to further expand the entertainment capability.

Piece of Junk, Waste of $$$ 2007-12-19
This is our second portable DVD player and our second piece of junk. We decided to go with a name like RCA because we wanted this to be our last purchase, at least for awhile. It lasted for one long trip (thankfully). Now it won't play 99% of our DVD's (one's it previously played), it especially does not like Disney movies. I keep getting no disc or it tries to play it and the picture is all broken up and the sound cuts out. Keep searching because this product is not worth your money.

Don't buy from Worldwide Distributors 2007-12-07
If this item becomes available again, and is being sold by Worldwide Distributors, don't buy it from them. I ordered the dual DVD for a beach trip in the spring. When I received it, one of the screens didn't work. I sent it back and asked them to send the replacement to a different address, since we were traveling. They replaced it, but sent it to the wrong address. When I finally received it, this second DVD player was also broken. Again, one of the screens didn't work (different screen this time). I sent that one back and asked for a full refund, including shipping. They gave me a refund on the DVD players, but didn't refund the shipping. So by dealing with this company, I lost roughly $50 in shipping and put up with a lot of hassle in unpacking, setting up, breaking down, repacking, resending. Unfortunately, by the time I went back to rate this company, the window had expired.

Broke after a few months 2007-11-23
Only got to use it 3 or 4 times and it broke. RCA wants $50 to fix. Stay away from RCA! Piece of junk.

What a hassle! 2007-11-12
I purchased this unit over a year ago for a 6 day road trip with lots of kids. It worked okay during that trip (a few issues, like some DVDs not working), but then the speakers stopped working in the second unit about a month later. I returned the unit to RCA/Thomson and they just sent me a complete replacement (after about 90 day wait), no charge. The second unit worked for maybe 3 movies and then the second screen just stopped working. Again, I packed up the whole unit, accessories and all, and sent it back. This time RCA/Thomson wanted a $50 payment to make repairs. Fine, I'll play the game, I thought. Well, again after more than a month, I get the box from RCA/Thomson back with only the two screens in it. To make a painful story short, after about 8 calls and 5 different packages and FOUR months, I still only have a couple of the cables and a bag (not even the mounting straps nor the car power adapter). The parts department lady admitted they have stopped making a bunch of the parts, with no replacement options available. But since I had been playing the game for about 4 months, the customer service department has promised a full refund of the purchase price. We'll see if that happens....

A true waste of money 2007-09-23
We looked around before we brought this product. We thought since it was RCA it would be good, after all we had an RCA TV that lasted for years.
Boy were we WRONG. We purchased it for long car trips and took care of it. We always kept it in it's case when not in use. We used it maybe 4 times. On one trip it just quit working for no reason. It won't play any of the kids disks. It is complete junk. After $150 and only a few uses, it was a great disapointment.

RCA Dual screen portable dvd players 2008-05-28
we bought this for our 3 children. it worked great for the first 3 months and then it quit for no reason. the children never touched it! we took it back to the store and they exchanged it (military store) and the replacement worked great for 3 months and quit also. i don't think it's made with quality parts to last. 3 months life for 2 seperate systems. that's bad for the price. will not buy RCA again. everyone told us sony is the best. could it be the rca system can't stand the heat inside the car???

Worked great initially 2008-05-26
This product was worth it's weight in gold for a year. It worked absolutely fabulous with clear sound and a great picture during this time. However, now the primary screen with the DVD player does not work. The picture will not come on and none of the DVD player buttons work. We can get it to work (sometimes) on the second screen when it is plugged into the DVD player. So now, we have one screen up for our son, the primary one plugged in and sitting on my console, and every time we turn it on, we pray it will work!

Obviously, longevity is not it's strong point. We were happy with the product up until it went crazy on us.

Do not buy this! Mine went bad after a few months! 2008-05-06
I rarely write reviews of products, but the performance of this product warrants it. All I can say is, we had it for a few months, and used it only occasionally (i.e. on trips) and stored it indoors. One day during a trip we were plugging it in, and......... nothing. No power light or anything. I am an electrical engineer, so I know electronics pretty well, so it is not an issue with the car. There is 12V getting to the unit. I am going to tear these things apart and try to diagnose the problem, but all I can say is that my father bought an Insignia at the same time for the grandkids, and it has worked fine. I have also owned a Cyberhome single DVD portable, and that is junk too. I have already torn it apart and I think I can fix it (power jack solder joint is cracked). Hopefully the RCA is just as easy. SAVE YOUR MONEY, buy something else.

6 months later still going strong 2008-01-28
I can't complain about a unit that costs about $100 and gives us two screens. Not only do we use it in our car, but we can prop up the video and it works great for watching exercise DVDs at home while also having the TV on to alleviate boredom. Fairly good sound quality from the included speaker. Not too hard to set up in the car - I'm so glad we didn't spend nearly $2,000 for a built-in DVD player! Comes with AC and cigarette-lighter power source.

Beware - it's not reliable! 2008-01-24
We've owned this DVD player for about nine months. It started not wanted to work properly after the first or second use. The dvds would just spin and spin without playing and eventually an error screen would indicate "No cd". For a few months I would just keep trying - and eventually I could get a movie to play. But I haven't gotten anything to play at all for a while now. We didn't use this DVD player often, probably only once or twice a month, and it sure is frustrating to head out to a long road trip only to find there is no entertainment for the kids. I'm in the market for a new dvd player and it won't be an RCA.
