So far, so good, but totally over packaged
2008-02-24
I can't speak to long term durability as I just received mine last week, but they seem to work just fine, and we are looking forward to having them for Green Up day in the spring. I appreciate that I wasn't charged for it, but am nonetheless disappointed in the wasteful packaging. I ordered two, and each one was shipped in a separate very large box filled with packing paper to take up all the excess space. I can understand that box sizes are limited, but they could have easily fit both in a single box with room to spare and saved at least one box and a bunch of packing paper. This isn't the first time I've had that experience with Amazon, and can't help wondering why on earth it makes sense to them!
Update: The Green Up Day test was a complete success. The gripper/handle action was occasionally a bit awkward, but on the whole they picked up junk of all types and sizes with the greatest of ease, except for beer bottles, which were a little slippery and hard to grip. Best of all, they saved our poor arthritic backs and knees!

I love this reacher. It is so easy and painless to use. It picks up almost anything and it also locks so that whatever you are picking up
stays within its "teeth". I would reccomend this to anyone,
Durability issue
2008-02-10
I have owned 3 PikStiks. While this may sound like a satisfied user, I'd buy a competitor product if I could find one more durable. The first one I bought at a local outlet failed after frequent and sustained use during one season of picking up leaves. I wrote to the company's website to tell them about it, and they were nice enough to send me another unit that appeared sturdier. It was the unit currently sold on Amazon and described as the 32 inch Pro Aluminum, Orange. In Feb 2007, I mailed it back to the manufacturer after having it also fail. Same reason...picking up leaves. I told them I wasn't trying to get another free one, that I had already ordered a replacement from Amazon, and was just suggesting they engineer a sturdier product. It's now early 2008 and approaching the end of another leaf picking-up season. Yeah, the 3rd has just broken. So am ordering my 4th from Amazon. The price is right and the unit does work well for months at a time. However, the jaw grippers tend to not completely close after heavy use, and the plastic breaks if you try to adjust them. The big problem though is the internal unit which fails after repeated use with no way to access internal parts, cables, springs etc to try to fix it.

I bought this reacher to help me after back surgery, and so far, it's done its job quite nicely. I like its length, and the fact that you can turn the prong part. It's easy to use, and quite sturdy. Definitely recommended!

I use this product almost every day to pick up trash and I find it easy to use. Keeps me from bending over all the time. Picks up the most tiniest of broken glass, cigarette butts etc.I would recommend everyone to buy this product. Well worth the price you pay.
This is worse than the previous Pik-Stik model.

I've used and depended on reachers for years because of a back injury. The previous Pik-Stiks were excellent and allowed for a fine touch, because you could operate the handle with the ends of your fingers. This new model is much cruder, and requires you to use your full hand to close the handle, losing the fine dexterity.
On the upside, the older Pik-Stiks would typically break at the handle after about a year of usage, whereas this new model seems to be sturdier.

This is a nice reacher. It is much sturdier than the standard aluminum one I received during a hospital stay. I agree that there should be a longer length available.
Fair Reacher for the Pricce

I'm disbaled and have been through several different types of these things and this one is fairly good one and is one of the nest I have had for the price honestly to this point. Seem sturdy and doesn't give to much. However I will say it is a bit short for my size and the fingers on the end don't pick up and hold onto the heavier objects like some I have had and by that I mean anything over a lb or so. These things tend to slip out of between the fingers as the grip just isn't there otherwise I have been satisfied with this product to this point and would purchase again for the money as last one I had cost over $35 and it broke in a couple of months. Don't waste your money on the gophers for sure as they are junk even though they are only $10 they ain't worth $2 as I have had 3 of them. This is far worth the extra monies for sure.
