I really wanted these to work!
2008-10-09
We have a Bose car stereo system and it is amazing, so I purchased these Bose speakers for my iMac. The sound was just average compared to other speakers... but the speaker loudness was very disappointing. So... they weren't great out of the box, but they were tolerable for the price, so we kept them. Big mistake... they ended up not working two months later. I wouldn't purchase these again. We have gone back to using the Altec speakers and they have been great.
Love them

These are great speakers. I love them so much I bought a second pair. We have owned one pair of these for about two years which we use for our xm radio. I use these with our PC. We have a large stereo system which we use with our xm in the theater room and these we have in the dining room and they are great! I would recomend them to anyone who doesn't need to listen to music at really high levels. If that is what you want these aren't for you, but normal listening levels they are great!
Completely worth it!

I would give these 6 stars if i could. Amazing sound for gaming, music, and watching TV on your computer.
Best computer speakers I've ever owned
2008-09-19
These are the best speakers I've ever owned for my computer. The speakers are small but pack in much sound that fills my work area. They make mp3 files, online games, online trailers and other web audio sound great. I wouldn't recommend these for a tv,they are designed for computers and use for gameing and such. The price is excellent too considering the quality of the sound you will receive with these. Bose quality at just one hundred bucks, you cant beat that.Couldn't be recommended any higher.
Love it!

I live in a 2 bedroom matchbox...with a desktop in the living room serving as the study/ work space. The Bose speakers more than suffice as a tiny little entertainment Center with primary source of variety enetrtainment being..youtube! My personal collection of CDs- including ethereal Hindustani classical music to cathedral Pink Floyds- all come alive in this little setup..I love it!
Had a listen to them in a local electronic store.

Oddsare, your computer is a primary source of entertainment. So why rely on standard computer speakers with so much rich content at your fingertips? Step up to Companion 2 Series II speakers and unleash your computers true potential with powerful, full-range sound for CDs, DVDs, MP3s, streaming videos, games and more. Companion 2 Series II speakers deliver both the subtleties in your music and the rousing resonance of movie and game sound effects. Think of them as giving new voice to your computer. And with Bose TrueSpace stereo signal processing circuitry, that voice really has some reach. Experience a spacious, dramatic soundstage that seems to extend beyond the desktop speakers, whether you've set them next to your monitor or placed them farther apart. You'll also appreciate the clear, robust response for those challenging low musical notes and sound effects. Companion 2 speakers bring more than new flair to your desktop. They're also designed for convenience, with both the volume control and headphone jack close at hand. All so controlling your listening experience is as simple as you'd like it to be. Dual inputs enable the speakers to be used with your computer as well as a second audio source, such as a portable MP3 or CD player. And Companion 2 Series II speakers are magnetically shielded to prevent interference with your monitor. Now, its time to play.
Great, as expected

I've only had these for a day, but they are fantastic! This is just what I expect when I buy a Bose product. I love music, and these make it all sound just amazing.
Not as good as expected

These speakers are fine, have a volume button and headphone on them but they just aren't as clear as I would like them to be. They have too much bass for my taste which seems to drown out the mid and higher range sounds; it sounded better when I changed the equalizer settings (in iTunes) from small speakers to vocal booster. I like my Logitech V20 Notebook Speakers better but don't like parting with a USB port so I'll keep those for travel and continue to use these at home.
Good sound, LOW power, not for tv audio

Bought these to connect to my Sony TV since the TV's built in speakers sound crappy. Note: i have a full on 7.1 home theatre system for it, but have chosen to simply the set up (less wires, less remotes, less power, etc..). Figured a good pair of self powered PC speakers would compensate for the tv's speakers. I tried an old pair of Altecs as a test to make sure and it sounded good, though the Altecs sound tinny - thought going to a Bose model would give me good sound quality.
What I found was that the Bose amplifier is really weak. I had to turn the volume up more than half way to even hear them. Yes, then they sounded good, with that Bose like room sound. I figured my TV's pre amp out was probably just really weak, so I tried them on my PC and got basically the same weak result. Im betting there is only a 15 amp in the speakers.
For $90 I guess I dont want to worry about the low power issue. Sound quality maybe, but not power.
Returning them.
White elephant gift

Do not waste your money and time buying these or putting this on your wish list for your friends and family to see. My brother bought these for me for Christmas but now I feel bad. Before receiving these as a gift I noticed that at Best Buy there were several boxes of Bose Companion 2 speakers behind the return counter one day but ignored seeing this handwriting-on-the-wall omen. Now I know why - My first set of speakers arrived low in volume so that you have to turn them way up before you hear anything. I learned from Bose that even under warranty, they make you pay for sending their speakers to them (which is now costly with the high gas prices affecting ground delivery). They sent me a replacement set of speakers, they work but now the right one emits a burning car engine smell. I read in one usergroup's review of Bose that they are NOT to be trusted as they intentionally market their products as superior but are only way overpriced.
These are actually supposed to be used at the school's computer lab where I work/teach but will need to buy another set for my other classroom. Will try out the Logitech Z-4I 2.1 speaker system since I will be sometimes be using them for movies and gaming there. It appears that there is no such thing as a perfect two-speaker unit for the laptop/desktop but that speaker systems that work with a minimum of 3 speakers work best for the money and sound quality. Right now I have a SONY 3-speaker system at home that is no longer made (it's at least 7 years old - the SRS-D300) and it is AMAZING sound quality and portable. There's real strength to be found in 3's ... architecture, engineering, the Trinity...!
