Works great

This works great, it came with a power cord too, which is useful if your trying to access stuff from a PC harddrive thats not in a pc. Fits laptop and pc harddrives via an adapter. No problems at all.
Wow! Did the job for me.

I thought all the data on my USB external drive was toast. On a hunch, I ripped open the casing (I practically needed a chisel) and found an IDE drive inside. Commercial data recovery is both expensive and non-secure, so I thought it would be worth $30 to see if this drive had any life left in it.
The kit comes with the adapter for two different kinds of drives (not SATA) and a power supply that plugs right into the back of your drive. I wasn't expecting much, but my Win XP machine recognized the drive right away and I was able to recover all the data. I am very pleased with this bit of tech.
As others have noted, this device will not win any awards for design or robust construction, but it did the job for me. I can see where people getting rid of old computers might want to keep the old drives in case there is some data they might need and didn't copy over.
doesnt work

I bought this product but it really didnt worked for me. Dont knw what happend, but I swapped the usb to ide attachment with my friend and it worked for both us for few days. then it completly stopped working. i wud suggest to spend $10 more and get something reliable than to waste time on this.
Oh yeah!!!

Purchased this at the same time as an external hard drive/CD/DVD enclosure. While it is attractive & does the same thing as this...it is unable to be used for the smaller 2.5 inch drives on laptops. Once I read the directions & hooked it up...I was able to use it with my Asus Eee laptop. If I come across a cheap 2.5 inch hard drive...will use this to set it up on the Eee.
Worked for me

I did a little research but was still not confident if this was the right cable for me. It worked! My old laptop crashed on a spark of static electricity. After I pried the hard drive out of it, I was able to connect the cable and plug it into my new machine to transfer my files.
This cable really saved the day for all my photographs and audio files.
Great Little Tool

I've built hundreds of PC's over the years and have had to hack jumpers and cable adapters too many times. But, recently my roommates laptop died and this gem was great for recovering his MP3 collection. I still use Windows 98SE on my old Dell OptiPlex PC; I found that after installing the included drivers and rebooting, this device opened his HD as a local drive just as if it were a USB memory stick ( on my PC it showed up as drive F: ). Very easy for anyone to use - and a great way to turn a spare HD into a removable storage device.
2.5" drives still require the power brick
2008-03-21
I have more 2.5" drives than enclosures and had hoped to use this adapter when I needed to access some of them. It does the job but half the drives won't work without the power brick. These same drives work fine when USB-powered in USB drive enclosures.
Works perfectly w/o problems

Totally worked. No drivers required. Plugged my spare 2.5" laptop drive into the USB port on my MacBook and the drive just showed up right away.
Excellente producto

Tengo solo un par de semanas con el y es sumamente efectivo, tengo un disco duro adicional y ademas un grabador de DVD y los reconoce perfectamente (como mi pc es slim, no puedo instalarselo directamente)
Yes, a power supply IS included
2007-08-14
For some reason, the product photo only shows the IDE-to-USB cable, and not the power supply cord that comes with it. (Actually you can click on one of the thumbnails to see a photo of the whole kit) I found this to be an extremely satisfying piece of equipment to use -- a terrific value! A driver is included for Windows 98 systems. I've tried it on both XP and Vista systems and they recognized the external drive automatically. I swap it back and forth between my old computer's hard drive (which I use for backups) and its CD-RW drive (my new computer only has one optical drive, so this speeds up disk copies).
