Editorial Review
The Linksys Wireless-G Pan/Tilt/Zoom Video Camera sends live video through the Internet to a web browser anywhere in the world! The advanced MPEG-4 video compression produces a high-quality, high-framerate, up to 640x480 video stream. MPEG-4 encoding facilitates good video quality in varying bandwidth environments. WVC200 also supports MJPEG compression for video, providing good video quality at high bandwidth rates. The comprehensive video features include an IR filter cut which allow you to see the images in low or no light environments when an IR lamp is used. Snapshots (in JPEG format) of the image can be taken and saved. Snapshots can also be scheduled and sent to an FTP server. If you want the video to be visible from a remote location or from the Internet, you can open an appropriate port on the Router, and then create password protected accounts to manage access to the camera, or leave it wide open for the world to see. Support for Dynamic DNS lets you access your camera using an easy-to-remember "name", even while using a dynamic IP address. The Pan/Tilt and digital zoom function allows you to remotely control the camera movement and focus, giving you maximum flexibility remotely. Up to 10 simultaneous users can have access to the camera at any point in time. Software is included for multiple camera monitoring and recording to your hard drive with advanced search by time and date. Recording can be set up to record by motion trigger, manual or schedule recording and playback on Windows Media Player without the need for a proprietary player. You can also turn on Security Mode, which tells the camera to send a message with a short video attached to up to three email addresses whenever it detects motion in its field of view. You can then log onto the live video stream if the situation warrants. Wireless security features include WEP and WPA.

Worth the price and performs as I would expect 2008-08-09
For the price this is worth it. It works reasonably well and has allowed us to log in from work to see our living room and watch our child and childs sitter. It was reasonably easy to install and use. The video quality is not high res or anything, but is usable. The audio quality is average and slightly delayed behind the video image. The best feature is perhaps the ability to PTZ (move back and forth, up and down and zoom) The zoom is ok-- not an optical zoom- more of a digital zoom (with corresponding loss of video quality). Overall I would recommend this product and would consider buying another if we want to monitor another room.

Great Cam 2008-07-22
Great cam. Dependable and clear. No problems with it. We have found it useful and are happy we purchased it. I would recommend it.

Works great...not so great to set up 2008-07-06
Cam is good, however hope this helps with others setting this up;

1 - Could only get it to work on WEP
2 - Once you set up the port, you can access it external using you IP address and adding :1024 (or whatever the port number is)
3 - Use a fixed IP address

Underwhelmed 2008-06-08
I did a fair amount of research before buying this camera, reading reviews, comparing specs, etc. I was fairly confident this was the best internet camera in my price range. I don't know whether or not that's true or if this camera is representative of security cams in general, but I do know I was not impressed by this camera on any level.

Video quality is terrible. Awful in low light. Setup and configuration procedures are draconian. The motor is LOUD when you pan or tilt.

It's entirely possible I'm being unfair. There are challenges for compressing and delivering video over wireless or ethernet. Sacrifices in image quality must be made to limit bandwidth. The only other 'security' cameras I've had experience with are the 20 dollar x10 types which gave me exactly what I expected for 20 dollars.

I didn't expect to get the same image quality from a three hundred dollar camera.

Don't Bother with Wireless 2008-03-25
Using a wired connection, I got all of the features working. However, the color quality was very poor, with a magenta cast. The pan/tilt motors whirred loudly - so much for unobtrusiveness.

The real troubles started when I went wireless. If I just viewed the video stream, it worked, but as soon as I tried to pan/tilt/zoom, the camera would lock up. It required a power-cycle to regain response.

I returned it.

Linksys Wireless G Camera 2008-02-17
I own this camera and it's a big improvement from Linksys' previous wireless-B camera. I especially like it because of the pan-tilt-zoom capability. It's a good way to stay connected when away from home!

Great camera...but not right out of the box 2008-02-17
First of all let me say that, now that the camera is up and running, I am very pleased with it and am considering buying another one. Getting to this point, however, was a challenge.

First off, the install disk would not run on any of my computers (I have 5 running XP, Vista, and 2003 server) so I had to download the setup wizard from the Linksys website. Once the setup wizard was up and running, I went through the initial setup until the wizard froze on me at the very end. Fortunately, this didn't seem to effect the setup process as the camera was up and running fine after I killed the setup wizard task...just an annoyance.

Next I decided to switch from a static IP to DHCP and found that DHCP did not work...at all. Since the unit does not come with a console port for local admin, you have to fire up the admin wizard again to fix this (which froze at the end again, of course).

OK....I can live without DHCP. Now for wireless access....or maybe not. Wireless would not work at all either...no matter what I did. At this point I decided to check the firmware of my device and see if there was a new version on the site (normally the first thing I do but I was excited to get this thing up and running). The firmware as shipped was 1.0.1 and the version on the site was 1.1.0. The good news is that the camera works GREAT after the update. Both DHCP and wireless work fine and I am satisfied with the quality for the price especially since this is currently the only wireless camera with sound that supports PTZ and WPA and includes a recording suite (with motion recording) for under $300.

The only other complaint I have is that the documentation is abysmal...especially in regards to the recording suite. Fortunately, there are plenty of people online having the same problems and finding the answers....Google is your friend.

In summary, the camera is great for home use once you get it going but I wouldn't recommend it as a serious security camera.

Less than expected picture quality 2008-02-10
I returned this unit after several days of fiddling. I got it to work on my wireless network, no problem. The monitor software was easy to use and could be expanded with more cameras. Unfortunately, the picture quality was never very good. I boosted the settings to maximum and still felt the quality was not what it should be. I just couldn't keep it with such a high price and the low picture quality. I suggest you select a different camera.

Linksys Wireless Internet Camara 2008-02-08
This was the second Linksys wireless camera I have tried and it will be my last. I decided to try the best Linksys had to offer thinking it would work better that the less expensive model. I was wrong. The main problem I have is the speed in which the web server in the camera rendered the video. It is so slow that at times my browser times out. I have checked and verified the wireless network speed is up tp par and I tried to access the camera both from the internet and directly from the my network side (192.168.1.XXX) and it continues to be slow. I even tried to use the lowest resolution setting with no success.
