I initially wasn't going to add anything to this heavily reviewed item except to note that there is a reason this project generated so much buzz. Now that many of the artists featured are deceased, it reinforces how valuable the effort was and how noble the intent. I bought this package along with "Live On", and listened to that one first. Wasn't really enthused about it, decided to not review it. Then I watched "10 Days Out" and have had the CD in my truck ever since. Make sure to watch the Extras on the DVD as well, to catch Kenny and Buddy Flett light off a smokin' version of Flett's "Dance For Me Girl". Also - as an aside, I am getting to see BB later this month at age 82. If it wasn't for this DVD, I really wouldn't have appreciated how much this is an opportunity that must not be missed. It isn't very often that an artist puts something out that leaves you feeling grateful. Thanks to all involved.

excellent music - fascinating musicians

I listened to the CD portion of this set first, in the car, and really enjoyed it. Then, as I later had time to watch the DVD, knew that I'd enjoy the CD even more when I could visualize the musicians making it. Kenny Wayne and the video guys obviously had a good time doing it, and their respect for the blues musicians (very few of which I had previously heard of) is obvious. Then, to hear these men (and one woman) talking about making music for 30, 40, 60 years - however long - is fascinating. It kinda makes you catch your breath and say, 'Wow!' The jams you get to see and hear are what getting blues musicians together is all about. Awesome CD / DVD set.
great music

I thoroughly enjoy this CD, being able to hear some great blues singers that may not be around much longer. Thanks to KWS for taking the time to go and see these people.
10 days out kenny wayne shepherd

This was one of the best pieces of history I have seen in a very long time. Many of the blues players interviewed will not be with us much longer, and Mr. Shepherd captured true living history. It is not necessary to be into the blues music to appreciate this DVD and CD. It is America at it's finest moments and some embarassing moments.
This is The Blues

Kenny Wayne Shepherd's reverence for his musical roots are center-stage on Ten Days Out...Blues From The Backroads, a CD+DVD package that features the guitarslinger and Double Trouble rhythm section of bassist Tommy Shannon and drummer Chris Layton performing with some of the greatest blues players of our time as well as lesser-known but historically significant bluesmen. Traveling to their hometowns to record everywhere from juke joints to front porches, from New Orleans to Kansas, Shepherd celebrates and becomes part of blues history with Ten Days Out...Blues From The Backroads.
Where the Blues comes from

This CD/DVD combo is a stunner. Wow. Difficult to know where to begin in listing all the interesting features of this body of work. I do have a question though: why limit yourself to 10 days and have to run to hard to capture what's here? It cost them something when they didn't have an audio problem figured out when they were recording (or so they thought) B.B. King in a little club in Memphis. When you see and hear what they did get, you'll be in anguish over the missing sound.
I bought this on a recommendation from a friend when we were talking the value, the worth, and the quality of Blues as played by the musicians who made it famous. I don't have much background on Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Prior to this, I always thought he was a pretty boy playing pretty much hard edged electric Blues. On these discs, he's playing sideman to some of the real Bluesmen left alive. He's very courteous and respectful in his approach to sitting in with these guys and that was nice to see. The fact that he can flat play also helped a lot. ;--)
The first thing that will get you is the rhythms. Man, there's nothing out there like what you'll hear these guys crank out! The power to grab you comes from the simplicity of the approach. In many cases, the PLAYING is anything but simple, but you can't miss the message. Not a lot of energy is lost in making a show here. It's all in the music and it's carrying a message we all hear, black or white. The Blues... when it's played right as it is here, to me, it's simply the best out there. Pick this one up... and try a little musical meat down close to the bone. In my world, this one's gonna be in Heavy Rotation for awhile...
Four Solid Stars but not Five

KWS and his father have put together a very entertaining package here, which includes some heros of the blues no doubt, but the fact that the CD IS THE SAME AS THE DVD without the pictures is a chicken-out if you ask me! Why there aren't a few tunes on the CD that are not on the DVD falls short of my top rating....and my twenty bucks! Save up for the next one by Kenny Wayne is my answer.
One of the best ever

I didn't know this DVD/CD set existed until I saw KWS recently and he played some of the DVD. Both are a real tribute to the old blues players that are still around (although some have passed since the making of the DVD) and a real keeper. Both discs are superb - visually and musically. KWS really played tribute to these men and the blues. Thanks KWS.
Awesome Blues Tribute

Excellent Blues Tribute to the some of the well-known and lesser-known "Fathers of the Blues".
Kudos to KWS for putting together such an outstanding tribute and rewarding his fans with a terrific bonus DVD.
The DVD alone is worth the price of admission.
Thanks, Kenny.
