HP quick Doc
2008-07-14
The quick doc comes with absolutely no instructions. And, HP doesn't have any on their on-line technical manuals. Yes, the complaints you have heard about the product are true, you need to use the charger provided with your Notebook/laptop, there isn't one built into the Quickdoc.
The thing I really hate is the fact that I cannot close the cover to my Notebook or the remote monitor and Notebook shut down. I have been trying to resolve this with HP product support but some instructions to begin with would have helped.
Once I get this screen thing figured out and I can set my monitor on the notebook I guess it will be an Ok product. Not great, but Ok.
Missing Part

Product arrived in good time but noticed that there is no power adapter to use it with. Item not properly listed. Will have to buy power adapter to use the product.
Junk! And Crappy HP Service!!!
2008-05-23
I have had to get 2 of these for my HP dv9500 laptop because neither has worked well. And then the mistake I made the first time, when I called HP to figure out if this was the right one to order for my new laptop, was to let them talk me into ordering it from HP Direct instead of from Amazon (where I could just return it if it didn't work). Instead, when the first one didn't work at all I literally had to spend hours on hold and then rehash the prblem to many different folks multiple times (all of whom were in India) and then, after 1 1/2 months, they finally agreed that it was defective and I needed another one. Then after another 6 months waiting despite multiple follow-up calls in between, I finally got the second one which worked perfectly - until I disconnected the laptop to take it on a business trip. Then it didn't work when I got back! For some reason the connection from the docking station to the laptop on the second unit is faulty and I have had to connect & disconnect it repeatedly, applying a lot of pressure while wiggling it to finally make a good connection! Needless to say, I will not waste my time calling HP to try to get a 3rd one 8 months from now. I will instead get a non-HP docking station to replace it. And I'll buy it from Amazon where I can easily return it if it doesn't work. Needless to say, I would rate this HP QuickDoc docking station a Zero if I could!!!
HP Quickdoc is great

I have a small tx2000 laptop and prefer to use a large monitor with a full keyboard and mouse when at home. This makes it very easy to attach a single plug to give me access to all of these plus a printer and external hard drive when working at my desk, and unplug a single connection when I want to take the laptop with me. I also have a second power cable so that also stays plugged into the quickdoc to keep the laptop charged. The original cable stays in my laptop bag.
Good Product

Good little product. Got this for my Wife to use on her HP Pavillion DV6000 and works as advertised. Real nice having everything hooked into one unit that all plugs in through a single port. Especially for hooking up better speakers, this computers audio ports are on the front which I think is really awkward. The only accessory that has trouble working through the docking station is her Wacom tablet. It does work, but has glitches through the dock. Plugging it straight into the computer solves the issues. Have yet to test the video and onboard LAN, but I suspect everything will be just fine.
Good product, nice to have something for the Expansion Slot!

Want fast and easy expansion for your laptop? The ability to connect to power, peripherals, and the Internet with a single cable? Make HPs Notebook QuickDock, the "home base" for your notebook. Youll easily keep everything plugged in while simultaneously reducing cord clutter. Youll have music, photos, and movies at your fingertips. The end result: less stress, better productivity.
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT

This is the first time I have to say something bad about not only this product but also about how HP customer service handled my enquiries. I have been a very good HP customer but I just can't fathom why they would sell something without a power extension. I must have spent 6 hours between misdirected and dropped calls and numerous emails. My last attempt was to write to HP CEO which got me a "scaling" customer phone call. After a brief conversation, the guy simply dismissed my complain. Bottom line, why would you sell a docking station which purpose is to help you with not having to plug and unplug wires and have you plug and unplug a power cord, IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. BAD DESIGN, BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE.
good but not great.

works as it should... for the most part. sometimes the cursor disappears from the screen but you are still able to click on things. to rectify this issue, the computer has to be rebooted.
other than this small issue, it works just fine and would still recommend it.
Save me buying new computer

Compaq AC power cord is totally junk. Actually the computer design where it connects is flimsy and easily breakable. After replacing the connector part in the laptop to the tune of 300 dollars and having it break again just days after 90 day warranty was over I was ready to buy a new computer. BUT WAIT I hadn't backed up my hard drive (imagine some dumb A-- not doing that. My battery was dead and I had no friends with this model to charge it. TAA DAA here HP comes to save the day - the QUICKDOC docking station connects (and charges) using the expansion port!!! Can you choose wisely? Back up your hard drive today dummmy!
Doesn't work with Compaq laptops
2008-01-26
The package says will work with Compaq models. That's laughable. I have a Compaq Presario v2000. The Quickdoc comes with an adapter so it will plug into the Compaq's smaller docking port. However, when you use the adapter, nothing on the Quickdoc works except the USB ports!?! In other words, you still need to open up the laptop everyday to turn it on and you must plug in the external monitor directly to the laptop. Virtually useless for it's intended purpose. Unless you use it with an HP, this is literally just a powered USB hub.
