epson moviemate 30s DVD projector 2007-07-15
Since we got this, Friday night has turned into family movie night
at our house. We've been using it in various rooms
without a screen. The sound sound system is by JVC and sounds
clean. The magnification, focus, and up-down-left-right adjustments
are quick, easy-to-use mechanical controls. Haven't had to use the
keystone correction, which is controlled by a menu somewhere.

Just so you know: it's much larger than the kind of computer
projector you use at the office. The power cord comes out
the front, which looks funny but works fine. The speakers and
disc tray are at the back, so you don't want to put it against
a wall or in a corner, as that makes the sound muddy.

No regrets at all. Sure, you could assemble your own DVD
projection setup from pieces, but I want something I can
grab under my arm for going over to a friend's house.

Great Product 2007-07-04
Home Movie Theater Projection Viewing will become the wave of the future with products as inexpensive and easy to use as the Epson Moviemate 30s. I can view all my movies on a large projection screen and it feels like I'm at the movies! The sound is great! I have used the DVD player already in the system and also viewing movies from my computer and have used other external sources for viewing. Just make sure you have a place for the projection screen and a place for the Moviemate- I have my Moviemate about 10.5 feet from the screen. I have had this product for over a month and use it about two times weekly. Its like going to the movies!

It is very good system for family,friends and business people.It is very simple to use.

It is an entry level projector 2008-01-14
Plus:
Integrated DVD player + projector for convenience;
Sound quality is good enough to play movie on DVD or concert on DVD;
Price is good;
Picture can be adjusted to very big even if the screen is close, good for a small room;
Fan is quiet compared to many other projectors;
Great customer support by Epson;
Projector light bulb lasts long and cheap to replace;
OK for occasional use as an entry level projector;

Minus:
Bulky and heavy (15 lbs);
Brightness is poor for day time use (Office projectors are much better as far as brightness goes);
Vertical lens shift is not enough, bottom of projected picture will be aligned to projector chassis at most, so that projector has to be put at a position higher than coffee table;
Horizontal lens shift is not enough is not enough, good for 1 or two watchers, 3 watchers? Do not know;
(LCD) Color richness is not as good as CRT, the difference is noticeable;

Give 4 stars.

almost perfect! 2007-12-18
Hello. I bought this projector directly from Epson before the summer and love it. I love the fact that we can set up our own drive-in outside during the summer and have hosted a drive-in night almost every weekend.

On the negative side though...I have also found a problem with the height adjustment as well. The machine does have a bit of height adjustment available but mine does not make it to the screen from the floor either (or even from a coffee table). I do have to elevate the machine up so that it is more level with the picture I want to produce. I have also found a problem with the volume outside. When running the machine inside it seems quite loud but when you are outside the volume seems too dispursed and does not produce a loud enough sound (especially on quiet movies without all the "action"). I have not been able to find a way to set up extra speakers to this to make it louder when using it outside. I know this unit can be hooked up to your tv and stereo unit but have not done that. Since I have no problem with the volume inside and have no intention of bringing my entire "stereo system" outside, I think this will still be a problem.
On the plus side....It's a great value for the money and I love being able to have my own drive in nights outside. I even take it with me camping and I am the envy of many other campers on their "walks". I made my own screen for outdoors (I do also have the duet screen which I use indoors but do not take it out so that I do not ruin it). The projection of the machine can get MUCH larger then the screen allows and I have 2 king size sheets sewn together and it could still get bigger if I wanted it to. The picture is still crystal clear even at this size of picture.

So as a wrap up...The volume is low if played outside but great if you are inside. The height does need to be adjusted and can not be played quite as easy as it says. It's a great value for the money when you are comparing to other machines that do the same thing for thousands more. The picture is very clear and the fact that you can just throw your dvd in it is great. (no hook ups to a tv required, so it can be played anywhere). I would buy it again!

Very, very disappointed 2007-11-28
The ad looks great for this projector: place it on your coffee table, plug it in, load a DVD and watch it on your retractable duet screen.

It doesn't work that way. I tried it. Half of the projected image was below the duet screen, on the wall.

Thinking mine was defective, I called customer service, who tried to convince me to unscrew the feet to raise the image (doesn't work that way on this projector, it has a lever to move the lens up and down). Finally, he decided that it must be defective so they sent me a "new" one... that had been a return (batteries already in the remote is a dead give away) and was broken and wouldn't power on. So, another call and another unit sent. This time it came in a white box labeled "refurbished" without instructions, cables or the remote control. I returned it and got a refund. Unfortunatly, they won't take the duet screen back since it wasn't defective.

Conclusion: This doesn't work as advertised. The projector must be 3 feet in the air to project onto the duet screen (since the screen has no height adjustment). Also, one duet screen for sale...

epson moviemate 302 2007-09-20
I am extremely pleased with this product. It was just as promoted in the advertising. All that is necessary is to take it out of the box, plug it in, and put in a movie. The quality is excellent. We just used it this past weekend for my daughter's 15th birthday party. We had an outdoor movie theater/campfire celebration. The image was outstanding. We projected onto a white stucco painted garage wall. The teenagers thought it was really great. My husband and I highly recommend it.

Theater made easy 2007-08-07
I had read all the reviews on different projectors and decided on this one. My biggest worry was the 2 10 watt speakers having enough volume for outdoor s. They do. The sound that comes out of this little box is truly impressive. Not as good as a surround sound system, but that is to be expected. It is super easy to use. The lens shift is really handy for setting up. We have watched a movie nearly every night for the past week and a half. The only complaint I would have is the somewhat low contrast ratio (1000:1). At times I notice the black levels being a little grey, but It really isn't much of an issue. Purchased it with the Duet screen which is super easy to setup and because it opens horizontally it folds down to about 3 or 4 feet long, very easy for toting around. I compared it to Optoma's DV11 and Toshiba's ET20U. I narrowed out the Optoma right away, but it was close with the Toshiba. The toshiba can be set up very close to the screen which would be handy and it had and HDMI interface, however it only had 5 watt speakers and cost quite a bit more. Overall an excellent product that anyone would enjoy.
