Great Purchase
2008-06-12
This bar and all the parts that come with are all really solid. This thing is awesome...if your having any doubts about purchasing this..don't. Unless you live in a home that bars you from putting anything like this up in your home, or you weigh over 400 lbs, you have nothing to worry about. The only thing that stops me from giving it 5 stars, is the fact that when you have the bar installed into those slots you screw in, it can be hard to get out if you want to place it somewhere else. Otherwise...great product. I highly recommend it if your trying to get into shape.
Great, Does What You Buy It For

A pull-up bar is an essential if you want to get in much better shape. It helps a lot with upper body and your abdominals, so i do hope you purchase one!
That being said: this pull-up bar does exactly what it's said. I've included pictures if anyone has any questions about it.
The installation took about two hours. After that it was a breeze from there, however, the installation side panels, which allow you to take the bar in and out, are awfully annoying to do so. Therefore, I'd recommend you just leave them in there.
The package comes in a pullup bar and four installation handles to insert the pullup bar in. Two of them are designed for a pullup, whereas the other two are designed so you can move the pullup bar to a lower part of the door to do "pushups." Don't bother. Again, the bar is incredibly difficult to move out of.
It includes two black handles, which do look nice. However, the handles are beginning to wear off, after excessive pullups. As long as you're not swinging around, it'll be less likely to wear out as soon as possible. Another plus side is the handles are made out of velcro, so what you can do is - add paper inside the velcro and thus make the grip harder. (Improve your forearm strength!)
I believe this has attributed to more recent PRs of mine (power cleaning and benching) because of the stronger grip that is needed to do pullups.
In short, the bar is stable and does what it's asked. However 4 stars because once the bar is put in the door, it's hard to pull out and the handles not being "perfect."
If you're looking to get into better shape, get this! It's well well worth it for your health.
Good

It is a good pull up bar, it serves it's purpose, is durable, and the grip is comfortable. However it can be quite hard to get in and out of the brackets and i believe it is not versitile enough to use for ab exersizes. It was easy to install in my doorway and overall i recomend this product
Great Workout Tool

The bar is sturdy and locks in place so that it does not spin or wobble. I installed all four anchoring slots so that the bar can be placed high (for pull-ups) and mid-level (for inverted rows/reverse push-ups). Switching it between levels can sometimes be irritating, especially if any of the anchoring screws are not completely flush.
I used only 3 screws per anchoring slot because that was all my door frame would allow. That is enough to support 180lbs (my husband) and vigorous motion without any hint of coming loose.
I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a simple pull-up bar. I could not find it at any of my local stores and feel that it's worth the price Amazon is charging. My first one arrived without the anchoring slots but Amazon sent a replacement within two days. If it were easier to remove the bar, I would consider it a 5-star product.
Great piece of equipment, but overpriced.

I bought this bar a few weeks ago and it works great for my needs.
However, last week, I found the exact same bar, hardware, manual, etc for sale at my local Walmart, but being sold in a "Gold's Gym" branded box, instead of Altus. This bar was being sold for $13, instead of the $24.99 I paid on Amazon. It's disappointing that Amazon is charging almost twice the price for the same product.
So, great bar, but overpriced at Amazon.
Very good product!

The AltusĀ® Deluxe Chin-Up Bar is an easily-adjustable 3-piece bar that fits doors from 26 inches to 38 inches. The comfortable foam handles offer a secure grip and you can position the bar at the top or bottom of the door frame for a great upper-body and abdominal workouts.
Just what I wanted

This product is excellant and exactly what I wanted. Easy installation and good quality.
Does what you'd expect it to.

The product is perfect considering its price (24.99 at the time I bought it.) Comes with numerous brackets and screws to install in your doorway, although I had a bit of a hassle installing it considering the trim on my doorway is somewhat small. But after a bit of jiggling I managed to get it secured. Neoprene handgrips are adjustable and reduce stress on hands significantly. My only recommendation is to be prepared with a drill to make holes in your doorway to install this sucker, but aside from that I'm completely satisfied with my purchase.
Very sturdy, safe pull up bar.

I selected this pull up bar after about 30 minutes of trying to sift through all the different pull up bars on Amazon. This bar pretty much addresses all the negative comments of every other bar on here. If installed properly and locked in, there is no way this bar is going anywhere while you are on it. It's solid as a rock. As already mentioned it doesn't rotate due to the shape of the mount and brackets.
It's also a comparable price to the rest of the bars on here. The other thing I like about it is the grips are completely removable, so it's very easy to replace them.
The only thing I would caution people about is the size of the mounting brackets. I installed mine in my basement where my door jambs are a little larger, and I still was a little worried about splitting the wood when I screwed the mounting bracket onto the jamb. I would recommend 1 7/8" to install these because you have to allow room for the locking devices. I included a customer image of what I'm talking about.
The best home pull up bar I've run across.

I think the most important aspect of a home pull up bar is sturdiness and I would qualify this one as HEAVY DUTY. After inserting the brackets into my doorway and slipping the bar in, it basically feels like a permanent fixture in my room. I've been using daily since I got and it shows no signs bending or giving. That being said, I wouldn't use it for acrobatic swinging and if you are over 300 lbs, you might rip the brackets off the wall.
Eventually the foam hand grips will wear away and I will probably just replace it with some grip tape. Also this pull up bar is also supposed to double as a sit up bar. I didn't even install the second set of brackets but it's tough to get the bar out of its holders and I wouldn't want to try to keep switching the bar from up high to down low. It's just doesn't come out that easy so you might want to think twice before buying this for multi-function exercises.
