Great product, super English-speaking customer support!

After 30-plus days of use, the Canon MF4150 gets 5 stars! It's fast; very quiet; it duplexes; not one paper jam after hundreds of copies; it simply works as advertised! (Full disclosure: I haven't used the fax because I have no need of it.) But do you know what really sold me? The combination of great technology design and customer support! You can own something that is purported to be the best-of-the-best, but if you have a question and the manufacturer's 'support' folks can't explain/fix something, well, it's just another boat anchor. I've phoned Canon three times (their 'tech' people were in Virginia--that's the USofA folks!) and each time the question/issue was resolved, including the 'fix' for printing inside of Quicken 2007! They were professional, knowledgeable, but at the same time, friendly and personable. Buy this printer! You shouldn't be disappointed!!

A good choice for a printer. It was easy to install. It has been easy to operate. I am very pleased with the price and I can recommend this product to anyone.
One month review
2008-05-08
We bought the product about a month ago. So far, we are very pleased with the product. The MF4150 was purchased to take some of the load off of the Canon Faxphone L75 printer and to replace our outdated scanner. (Cat owners please read the last paragraph.)
The auto-feeder is wonderful and after one month is working perfectly.
The scanner and the process to create PDFs is 600% faster than what was required by the Epson Perfection 610 flatbed scanner.
The double-sided print feature is working extremely well.
This past month we printed over a 1,000 pages with the starter cartridge. Then we received the low-toner warning. Therefore, we shook the cartridge and have increased the life expectancy of the device. This is a trick we have been using on all cartridges.
My favorite laser printer is the Canon Faxphone L75 with the FX-3 cartridge. The cartridge would last for 11 months and was able to print about 4,000 to 5,000 pages. I am hoping that MF4150 can compete with the economy standards of the Faxphone L75. If you are looking for a printer, try to find one of these discontinued items. We switched to the L75 from using inkjets in 2003. Our operating expense dropped from $650 down to $75 in cartridges. We had no problems or complaints with the L75 over the past five years.
For $200, MF4150's price is very reasonable and so far we have no complaints.
Right now, we are very pleased with the product. I wish that these review sites would have a follow-up page for one year later. It would be interesting to see how the product performed over the course of time instead of just the first thirty days.
Our cats are happy with the MF4150. They can see movement and attack the moving paper. When our predators are attacking the machine, they are safe from any moving parts. Whereas with an older HP color inkjet printer, it was annoying to see our white cat with green paws. Our cats were intent on killing that moving HP cartridge and occasionally a paw would get snagged by the moving part. The MF4150 appears to be cat safe. If our product testing team comes up with a different conclusion, we will update this review (if possible). For those that think it is would be easier to position the printer out of the range of cats, you haven't owned a cat or if so, that cat was mentally challenged. No idea how dogs respond to the printer.
Great for the price

This unit works very well for the price. I don't know of too many other MFP that duplex at this price.
Clean printing and very few jams. So much faster to first page than my cheap Samsung.
Love it

I had an old HP Deskjet 712C and the ease of use and speed of printing on this Canon is incredible. It was easy to set up and the scanner (and document feeder) work great. I also love the duplex printing. This was a great value for the money.
Decent MFC

I purchased this after returning a defective Brother MFC-7820N. The Canon seems to be sturdier than the Brother I returned. My only regret is that the Canon does not have a network interface like the 7820N.
Awesome value

Great machine. In spite of some other, negative comments on the duplexer, I am having no problems. This has been a really nice surprise ... in fact, even though I bought it mostly for faxing and the occasional duplex job, I am now using it as my everyday printer. There are some issues with this fax machine and Vonage fax lines, though. You will need to adjust the baud rate for it to work properly with a VOIP line.
Canon duplex laser printer

Great printer for a great price. Sharpness not quite at the highest quality, but the price makes up for it and Amazon got it to me, in Hawaii, free and in just 4-5 days. For general home printing, it can't be beat. Set-up was easy for a p.c. A little issue when there were no instructions to set-up with a mac, but, thank goodness, I am somewhat computer savvy and got the printer driver off the internet by googling. Had a little problem setting up the duplex function with the mac, but was surprisingly pleased with the level of help with the free Canon tech support (I was not kept waiting more than a minute and the responder was not a foreign-sounding, difficult-to-understand person). I was kept on hold for a few minutes due to the newness of my OS system, but the technician came back with just the right answer and I had my problem resolved with one phone call.) So far, this has been a good purchase and a good experience overall.
Great printer. Great buy.

Did a lot of research before I bought this printer. Even called Canon for a definition of some of the features I didn't understand and received quick, friendly help. Then I searched the Internet for best price. This was it. Printer arrived in 3 days. Easy to install. Weighs about half what my old one did. Works like a champ. If most of your printing/copying/faxing is black and white, get this printer with a cheap color printer for the occasional item you need in color. Much cheaper way to operate.
Just received the machine - Vista User
2008-05-13
Hello - I just received my machine today. It was well packed and undamaged, surviving the trip well.
Upon unpacking the machine I located the literature & software pack and was pleased to see a Vista driver disk. I read a lot of reviews before buying this machine and it seems it is not uncommon to have to download the drivers for your new machine from the manufacturers web site. Call me inherently mistrustful if you will - drivers can be hard to find, and if you find them it seems there can be 4 different drivers with minor differences, leaving you to question whether or not you got the correct, and latest driver. Downloading can be an adventure, and installation never seems to be as easy as click/click/click. I wanted a driver disk with my machine.
I prepared the system in accordance with the easy to follow "Quick Installaion Guide" and prepared to install the software with some apprehension - we all know the problems/conflicts that can arise.
The software installed quickly and easily - I took the easy route as opposed to the custom install and was blown away too see the software package was 434 MB...No worries however - install took about 10 minutes and was easy as clicking "yes" 6-7 times. No problems to report - quick and easy!
After the requisite machine reboot it was time to connect the USB cable - again the welling of apprehension... We all know the conflicts that can arise, or how a system can fail to 'apply' your installation.
After connecting the USB I heard the comforting Windows tone, and then proceeded to the control panel - the printer was there, and I set it as default... test page printed with no problems.
Now the tests - I proceeded to print emails, web pages and several documents from work. NOT A SINGLE GLITCH!
Print quality is outstanding, the machine was easy to set up, the software installed easily - I'm a happy camper.
Granted, this is a very capable machine and I need to explore many of the advanced features, but so far, too easy, and my initial impression is great machine for the money.
I recommend it, and I hope if you buy it your experience is as positive as mine.
