TurboTax Premier Investments 2006

IRS was calling my parents for me NOT filing on time, i did not owe any money but you HAVE to file anyway. i bought this software, loaded it up, and it picked up many of my investments' interest, dividends and my W-2 automatically online. this made things very easy. i printed it out, sent it USPS Certified to the IRS. the whole process took about two or three days, you see i am a procrastinator, hence the IRS calling me AND my family.
Bottom line, if you are buying this particular version, the IRS might be calling you already. i bought it and was VERY happy, i bought the 2007 (tax year 2007) version also but downloaded it so it would be that much faster.
saved me from the tax man...thank you...

I was behind in filing due to selling some stock and not knowing how to figure it all out. This will do everything it says it will provided you know how to answer the questions...not always as intuitive as a novice might need...but still worth it as now my taxes are done and I know I am sitting pretty!
Do Yourself A Favor - Use TurboTax! 2008-02-09
I absolutely HATE doing taxes, but I also hate paying someone big bucks to do them for me. This program keeps me from tearing my hair out during the agonizing process of doing my taxes. I highly recommend it!

Using the Mac version, have used TurboTax for several years, and not only am I saving $800-$2000 per year that my preparer used to charge me, not only am I learning how to be more self-sufficient and about the basics of taxes and deductions, but each year I am impressed with the questions the program poses which usually provide me with deductions that are very valuable ... for example, burglary, education expenses, medical expenses beyond a calculated amount, all have been very legitimately deductible for me and provided me with literally thousands of dollars in increased refunds ... and it occurs to me my preparer never interviewed me about such things in the past when I used to hand my information to him, so really there was no thought going into the deduction process, and advantages were lost. I highly recommend this program. I do not use Windows computers, so I can only speak about the Mac version, which works well. Very good idea to try TurboTax. Premiere Edition is recommended, because it provides many extra features for just about any situation and can eliminate any need to do further research or require professional advice (in my case at least).

Wrong package 2007-05-12
I tried to cancel the order 15 minutes after I ordered it and I couldn't. 2005 turbotax premier had everything I needed for my taxes and 2006 premier did not. That's why I ordered Turbotax Business right after I tried to cancel the order.
Can't e-file -- defeated the purpose of buying the software 2007-04-14
TurboTax has what looks like it would be a geat feature -- the ability to import data from your financial institutions so that you don't have to enter all of your stock sales by hand.
Some of the cost basis (how much I bought the shares for) was empty, so I had to go in and enter them manually. No big deal, just took a few minutes.
However, when I went to e-file, the program had flagged these changes as "overrides" to computed values, and refused to let me e-file the return. Equally bad is that if I just leave the fields empty -- as they came from Charles Schwab, then it looks like I got the stocks for free, and have a huge tax bill (that is incorrect).
So, after many hours of trying to see if I could change the field so that it would not be flagged as an "override", I determined from other upset users of TurboTax in the forums on intuit.com that I was out of luck. I'd have to print it out and mail it in.
As a special reward, TurboTax doesn't even tell you what attachments you need to include on the return that you are now forced to mail in. The help screen says that what it prints out will tell you what to include in the return. That's wrong.
So, the main reason I got TurboTax was to e-file. Now, I get to print it out, find out all of the crap that I have to attach to the return, mail it in, then wait for weeks to months to get my return.

The saddest part is that H&R Block had sent me a free copy of TaxCut before I bought TurboTax. I should have used that before I spent $30 on a piece of crap like TurboTax. Won't do that again.
More trouble than help

We purchased this to make sure we didn't miss anything re: stock options. The program kept including a ghost set of options of a different type, though they were not entered twice. It took me quite sometime to get them deleted. It also said we had to pay estimated tax next year-which isn't true since we overpaid (as we have always done). Too many errors for a tax program!
Easy to use and accurate 2007-04-11
I found Turbotax easy to use. It gave me the flexibility of filling in individual forms rather than using the interview process. Since I am an experienced tax preparer, I found this feature welcome.
