Editorial Review
DiskWarrior is the safest, the most technologically advanced, and the most powerful utility to eliminate directory damage available for any computer. DiskWarrior uses a different approach to disk directory repair than other programs. DiskWarrior is not a disk repair program in the conventional sense. Instead of patching the original directory, it uses a patent-pending technology to quickly build a new replacement directory using data recovered from the original directory, thereby recovering files and folders that you thought were lost and that no other program could recover. Monitors drive hardware for potential drive failure Verification of replacement directory ensures data integrity Comparison of original directory with replacement directory tells you which files and folders may have been affected by directory damage Patented preview feature to view what the disk will look like after the directory is rebuilt, allowing you to view files and folders before any directory changes are written to disk Repairs damaged boot blocks and blesses the system folder to ensure that the computer will start from the repaired disk

Disk Warrior Saved the Day! 2008-05-14
Disk Warrior helped me rescue what I needed from my Mac laptop before having the hard drive replaced. Nothing else worked. It saved the day!

It Saved Me! 2008-05-12
Not much to say other than DiskWarrior got my Mac back up and running where Apple's FirstAid couldn't.

If you have a hard drive failure, give DiskWarrior a shot. It might work and save you, too.

Slow, but does the job 2008-05-09
Disk Warrior operates meticulously but very slowly to recover damaged disk directories. It was able to rescue data from a crashed 120 Gb external hard drive of mine. Once I figured out the options, and gave it an overnight task (7 hours!) to do, it accomplished it very effectively.

DiskWarrior worked! 2008-02-17
My PowerMac G5 with OSX 10.3.9 suffered a complete failure in January 2008; won't even boot up to a gray apple. I had a backup of the G5 files from a few months ago, but I wanted to recover my recent files since this last backup. So I used Norton SystemWorks 3.0 to boot the G5 up from the CD, then scanned and fixed many errors on the hard disk, but the G5 still would not boot up from its hard disk. I then bought DiskWarrior 4.0 and used it to boot the G5 up from the CD and rebuilt the G5 directory. Voila! The G5 booted right up from its hard disk. Yahoo! I got my recent files back (and backed it up). From this one experience, I would recommend DiskWarrior to Mac users.

TIGER=5 STARS / LEOPARD = 0 STARS AVG=2.5 2008-01-20
When my Powerbook was running Apple's Tiger O/S, Disk Warrior was my best friend and rescued me from two near-fatal hardware issues. However, when I upgraded to Leopard and experienced issues from the gate, I figured Disk Warrior would remedy the situation. First off, it didn't and secondly, it made things worse. My permissions were so corrupt that I couldn't overwrite existing files. Adobe InDesign would crash repeatedly, Photoshop would not save any of the actions I created, my Address book wouldn't allow me to add or edit entries, Apple Keynote would not allow me to import images and Mail stopped remembering sender addresses for future autofill. I finally had to wipe my entire hard drive and clean install Leopard. Everything is running fine now.

Bottom line, DO NOT USE DISK WARRIOR 4 WITH LEOPARD UNTIL ALSOFT RELEASES AN UPDATE - even though their website claims that it will work if you boot from the CD (which is what I did)

Alsoft Disk Warrior 4 2008-07-18
My daughter has an ibook running Panther 10.3X and it was slowing up and Norton Utilities for MAc couldn't resolve the issues it saw. There was no place to go with Norton as they had pretty much orphaned the Mac Utilities at that point.

I read the reviews on Disk Warrior 4 and it seemed to have all pleased with it's performance.

I ordered it, opened it up- put it in the drive and booted thru, and it was rather simple-almost too simple, not many options but it did what it had to do and the machine seemed to run faster- then I pulled the 256 ram from under the keyboard and put in a 1GB stick ( an initial 256MB is embedded on the motherboard) for a total of 1.256 of ram- now its back to performing.

Yep, Disk Warrior 4 was worth the 100 or so I paid for it.

Has saved me a few times 2008-06-23
I bought this due to disk damage that my other utilities programs could not fix. The installation was a bit problematic, but after struggling through it I was able to save my disk. (There was much rejoicing.) I have since used it again and again with good results. However (as has been noted), if you are using OS 10.5 Leopard on an Intel MacBook Pro, as I am, you had better have another FW drive you can boot from with the program installed. Booting from the CD to repair a drive was unsuccessful. That is the reason for only 4 stars. Not a big deal if you have another external drive, though. This program is the best drive repair utility I have found. (Note: It is NOT for scanning a drive to find deleted files to recover them.)

"Leopard bootable" disk does NOT boot on 2008 hardware (MacPro) 2008-06-13
This highly regarded disk management utility works as claimed on most hard drives (including TimeMachine backup). Installation instructions lead one to believe to just pop the steeply-priced ver 4.1 CD into its slot, and you'll be able to rejuvenate your system volume. NOT SO!!

The latest CD (as well as the downloadable version) boots from OSX 10.4.9 and--as I discovered in a long frustrating afternoon--'Tiger' will not boot the 2008 version of the MacPro (nor some other 2008 Apple hardware). Had I known - after trolling the support database - that the fine print way down mentions ... just in passing ... that the MacPro will be supported only in a later release (no release date offered), I would not have purchased the product at this time [why bother, when the only 'workaround' is to boot from another Leopard installation].

Because the claims made are not supported by the facts, nor are the product's limitations clarified in the installation instruction sheet, I down-rate an otherwise fine product for wasting lots of my time and money.

GREAT PRODUCT 2008-06-10
I purchased the update, which I received in about a week. Version 3.03 brought my Mac back into the living when Disk Utility said it couldn't repair the disk. To check the update from 3.03 to 4, I ran 3, no differences,
Then ran 4 where a difference (problem) was found.

When You're Down, Disk Warrior Will Pick You Up 2008-05-31
DiskWarrior totally saved me from myself. If you're a college student, with too much time over the summer, experimenting with your computer, then you should definitely invest in this product before you get yourself in a pickle.

Because of all my free time, I had been reading about securing your computer by erasing your free space. I performed it on my startup disk on my iBook and everything went fine. I performed it on my external firewire hard drive and it stopped mounting. Oh snap. There goes years of data.

I read reviews and researched and finally settled on this product. I got it, popped it in and opened up the app. It was amazing that it could recognize something that (allegedly) didn't exist! So I hit rebuild and let it sit overnight. I came back the next morning to find it kind of hanging, so I forced quitted it and ran it again. This time, it went straight to rebuilding and showed the report. Well, the hard drive is dead (disk malfunction/mechanical problems), but it recovered all my files. Awesome.

Even though it couldn't save my hard drive and it took two runs to make it work (minus one star), I still recommend it highly. It's worth the money. In fact, every college student should have a copy sitting on their bed in their dorm when they move in (or mailed to them when classes start). It's a life saver.
