The Original McKenzie® Cervical Roll provides necessary support to the cervical structures and maintains a natural curve of the cervical spine while one sleeps on the side or back. If you suffer from frequent episodes of neck pain; referred pain in the shoulders; nighttime neck problems; or morning pain or stiffness in the neck, your sleeping position may be at fault. Placed between a pillow and the pillowcase, the cervical roll is designed to work with most conventional pillows. I do physical therapy/personal training and I am very familiar with the McKenzie products. One of my clients had been having a lot of problems waking up with a stiff neck so I suggested she use the neck roll. A few days later she said her neck was feeling MUCH better.

McKenzie Cervical Roll

I read the McKensie self help books for back and neck pain which recommended the use of the McKenzie Cervical Roll Neck Support. I had attempted to find the materials and make one myself but found the very product I wanted on line from HPMS. It was so reasonably priced that I ordered it. It was very promply delivered and I began using it that night. My neck has greatly improved from a combination of using both the exercises and the proper support at night.

Appropiate Size and Useful

This roll helped support my neck and aided with pain relief. It is not so large as to be uncomfortable. I also found as my neck improved i could occasionally sleep on my side and use the roll as a small mini-pillow- it keep my head and spine aligned.

Surprisingly, it does the job

I used to use a tempurpedic memory foam pillow. It worked for a while to ease morning neck stiffness, but after a while, it didn't retain enough support to properly position my neck. At first, when i bought this, I thought it would have the same softness/degradation issues as the tempurpedic, but it doesn't! It's soft and unobstructive enough to feel like a soft bump in the pillow but I'm surprised that its firm enough to properly support my neck. I have not had any neck stiffness since I started using this roll in my pillow. And that goes for sleeping on both my back and side. I would recommend that you get this if you are a calm sleeper (i.e., don't move around a lot at night). Otherwise, the roll could shift around and actually be out of place relative to your neck, which could make things worse.

Better Than Any Substitute

As a trial and at the advice of my physical therapist, I used a rolled-up towel inside my pillow case as a temporary cervical neckroll. While this definitely helped, the towel would compress, as you would expect, and in the course of a night's sleep, the support benefit would be lost. The McKenzie Cervical Roll restores its shape beautifully, and provides excellent--yet comfortable--neck support for both back and side sleepers. I haven't done it yet, but I think it would also be very convenient to take along during extended travel, so as not to regress when away from home. If you are unsure if this will help your neck pain, try a rolled towel for a week--and then buy this roll to aid in a long term solution. Highly recommended.
