Editorial Review
The Targus Voice Recording Presenter with Laser Pointer incorporates three individual products into one small, convenient form factor. Functioning as a PowerPoint presenter, voice recorder and SD memory card reader, this compact product includes all of the features needed for a boardroom or classroom presentation. The unique voice recording function allows you to easily record presentations, notes, meetings and reminders in .wav format. You can record up to 4 minutes per megabyte to your SD card (SD card not included). The built-in SD memory card reader allows users to store presentations and files on a SD card and transfer the information to the host computer using the included USB cable. To enhance your presentation, the integrated laser pointer enables you to call out important highlights. The 2.4GHz RF wireless technology provides up to a 50ft. range, allowing the user full control of the presentation anywhere in the room. The device also features an easy to use volume control and allows you to command a number of functions through the presenter such as next/previous page, dark screen/resume, application switch and slideshow/ESC. Perfect for travel, this single device also provides stow-and-go storage of the USB receiver for added convenience.

decent for the price 2008-08-29
I agree with the previous reviewer that the cursor control takes some getting used to. However, I found the voice quality to be decent. Nice all in one device.

Abysmal 2008-08-20
I was given this as a present and was very disappointed by it. The unit feels cheap, lightweight and poor quality. You're more likely to slide off the battery cover than slide on the power switch, and the scroll wheel is horrible too. The accompanying manual is flimsy and offers no troubleshooting advice, and it was entirely unclear which way to insert the SD card and how far in it was meant to go. Plus, the unit is only compatible with Windows operating systems. The only positive aspect of the design is the slot that holds the USB wireless receiver for controlling your presentations, though my cat did like chasing the laser pointer.

Although the box advertises SD card support for voice recording, it only supports cards up to a maximum capacity of 1GB - but they bury this information in the manual, which of course you can only read after you've bought the unit. When I called customer service for help with recording to my 2GB SD card, I was advised to return my unit and get a replacement because it sounded faulty. Of course, the second one was no better and after another half an hour on the phone to technical support, someone finally told me that this model didn't support my SD card and that they didn't produce any others that did. I was not impressed.

I have not yet investigated alternative brands, but I can tell you that all of them will be better than this hunk of junk. Don't waste your money.

it records but has no cursor control 2007-05-13
Targus is touting the product as the newst item on their website, stating that they are the first who came out with a recorder+presenter. It works fine. It has volume control, and the usb is tucked inside the handle for storage. But it product lacks mouse control. So someone doing prsentations that require mouse clicking has to approach the computer and move controls manually. It would have been useful if Targus pointed this out rather than create hassles for people who must return it.
Also, the recorded voice quality is not very good. The movements of the hands are recorded and interfere with the comprehension of the voice.

The utility of the product depends on different people's needs.
