Love this Camcorder! 2008-05-17
I have had it for over a year now and love the quality and ease of use. It produces great family videos!

My only complaint is that it's hard to find compatible video editing/burning software. I finally found Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8 with Dvd Architect 4.5 This software is necessary to make great family dvds with this camera. Try the free download at sony before you buy.

Would definately recommend!

great buy- 2008-04-06
This was a gift for my boyfriend and he loves it. Its easy to use, the quality of the picture is great for the price, and its small enough to bring anywhere. FYI it does not come with any of the discs.

Gorgeous Video, Shammy Service 2008-04-06
Initially, I loved this camera.

Pros:
EXCELLENT video quality. Absolutely stunning imagery.
Great zoom-in for extreme close-ups.
Long-lasting battery that charges quickly.
LCD screen is good quality.

BUT it died within a year of purchase, inconveniently AFTER the manufacturer's warranty expired. After the first ninety days, the camera stopped recording on DVD-RW (even the more expensive ones made specifically by Sony), bringing up an error message that said the disc was dirty or corrupted, even if the disc was brand-new out of package. A few months after that, it would not record on ANY type of disc and refused to even play back the ones that had already been recorded.

Worst of all, because I did not purchase any extended warranty, Sony has a flat-rate repair policy that would be 211.00 specifically for this model, REGARDLESS OF WHATEVER NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. It doesn't matter if they just had to blow air in around the lens, I would still have to pay nearly two-thirds of the purchase price to fix it.

My advice:
If you're adamant about buying a camcorder that records onto DVDs, regardless of which brand you decide on, purchase an extended warranty plan.
If you don't really care what your camcorder stores your memories on, go for something that doesn't rely on laser capability which is more pricey to repair (or they'll pretend it is and jag up prices for it).

Great Small Video Camera! 2008-04-04
This video camera is light-weight and small enought to tote around. It's easy to use and takes great video!

No service, warranty is a Sham! 2008-04-04
The unit workered fine until the LCD screen failed. The camcorder was still under warranty for parts and labor. (90 days) I only got the run-around from Sony. They had me send it to the repair center at my cost to reair it. After numerous phone calls, they refused to fix it under warranty. They thought it was damaged by being dropped. All I did was turn it on and it failed without physical damage. That was their out and wanted to charge me $211 for labor. I will never buy from Sony again because of their lack of service and warranty.

ok for the price 2008-03-27

Almost Perfect 2008-03-18
This is a nice little camera. All that I can say negative about it is that putting in and taking out DVD blanks is slightly tedious. Not a big deal though. I have been using this device fairly regularly for about a year without any malfunctions whatsoever.

Love this Camcorder! 2008-03-13
We bought the Sony DCR-DVD108 last year before our cruise through Europe. We have always just used our cell phones or digital cameras to snap pictures, and being a middle-aged guy not too familiar with many entertainment electronics, I was somewhat intimidated by a Camcorder. My partner and I had a lot of fun with this device. We just used it again last month in the Caribbean, and will be taking it to Europe again this September!

I would have given this a 5-star rating but cannot because of one little issue (and of course I didn't notice this until after our trip last year and we were editing 9 DVD's)...but that is when I pushed the zoom button, I would let go of the button too quickly and you can hear a "click". It's OK at first, but after a a few DVD's, it was irritating. Luckily we are having these (finally) edited and most of it will be put to music. When we were on our last trip to the Caribbean last month, I was cognizent of this and was careful not to quickly release the zoom button; however, when you're in the moment of taping, it's sometimes hard to remember you can't quickly zoom and release the button without that annoying sound.

If you have never owned one of these, you really don't realize how often you will zoom, but you will. The zoom function is really incredible. Just be careful not to let go of the zoom button too quickly. From what our DVD editor tells us, this is a common issue with most Camcorders...the only other option is to turn the sound off...but that wouldn't be fun!

The camera takes great movies AND great pictures. The night vision was great too. We took some vids of some of the evening performances on the last Caribbean cruise, and they turned out pretty cool. We did purchase a wide angle lens recently, as well as a polarizer.

I love this little guy and when we're ready to upgrade will get another Sony.

Wife really likes the camera. I have not used it much 2008-03-06
Camera fits the bill. It replaced a Sony high 8 from 1999. The wife really likes the camera.

love it 2008-03-03
I love this mini dvd camcorder. I really didnt want to purchase a Sony, since they seem over priced for quality sometimes but after buying & returning 2 other dvd camcorders I gave this one a shot. I have had it almost a year, and have enjoyed the ease of use. I use it for family functions & recording our toddler twins. I save & edit the video with the included software on the PC. It is pretty simple for computer literate people.

Review: "This Camera is one of the best in its price range. It takes beautiful clear pictures and can be used right out of the box, but its worth learning all its features. The included memory holds about 20-25 pictures so I upgraded to 128mb. I reccomend getting a 128mb card and the Sony camera case. Not only is this one of the best cameras in its class it includes decent software and rechargeable batteries that are at least a 20$ value.
HIGHLY reccomend over canon, kodak, and fuji. One more thing this camera has CARL Zeiss lens (if you dont know, great lens) all the competetors have generic lens."

The fact is a camera’s megapixel rating is only a measure of how many pixels (photosensitive sites) an image sensor has…. An image sensor is simply one component of an entire system that produces a digital photograph… So resist buying into the megapixel hype when you’re choosing a digital camera. From Chapter 1
