Panasonic VDR-D310 DVD camcorder captures crisp, high-resolution digital video on convenient 8cm DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM discs. Unfortunately just a watered down VDR-300 :( 2007-12-02
I have compared this to the older VDR-D300 and this machine did not deliver any IRL improvement over the older D300. Both feature three 1/6" CCDs, 10x optical zoom, and cold shoe. With the VDR-310 Panasonic changed the look but little else. Its new body is attractive with a protruding lens barrel and matte gray disc hatch instead of the all-silver VDR-300D, but that's really all the major change from the 300D to the 310D. And in the process it lost some very helpful features such as the flash. Don't get me wrong, they are both great camcorders, but this model is not an improvement in any category, but rather a step down from the previous model, that is the reason for only three stars. the VDR 300 would get four stars from me.

Panasonic VDR-D310 2007-11-24
This was my first video camera. I do have 3 other still cameras and take a lot of pictures. I wanted a video camera where I could also take stills and not have to switch cameras. The Panasonic D310 does this beautifully. The 3.1 megapixel creates great still pictures and you can switch back to video right away. I found it easy to use, the stereo mic works great and is sensitive enough to pick up even muttered sounds (which you sometimes don't want recorded). I bought an extra battery as I found one is not enough if shooting a wedding or family party. I am totally pleased with the enclosed software as I can edit my videos and put differen parts together before saving to a regular DVD. I would certainly recommend this product particularly to beginning video buffs.

Great Camcorder! 2007-11-20
The picture quality for this camcorder is superb. I was very, very pleased with the product. It also does well under low light conditions and you can purchase a video dc light (cheap) to attach to the top of camcorder for low light and night shots. It does not have a built in light, but this does not seem to effect the image quality.
I bought it to film and pop out the DVD to play on the DVD player. I can't say much about the software since I probably won't ever use it, but if you are looking for high-quality camcorder just for filming, I rate this one Number 1 !!!

Very impressive 2007-08-30
This is the first video recorder I have ever owned. I agree with the positive remarks of the others who have commented, on Amazon. Picture and sound quality are very impressive.

Great Camcorder 2007-07-12
This is a great camcorder. Lots of options and great video quality. The camera functionality isn't the greatest but its a camcorder not a camera. I was really suprized by the great performance of the low light functionality.

This is a wonderful product. It is very easy to use and takes wonderful video.

Panasonic VDR-D310 2008-04-07
Received this camcorder very quickly and as advertised. Had a special occasion for which I wanted to use the camcorder and was able to do so without reading any of the instructions including taping and playback - the operation and controls were pretty intuitive. Haven't even played the DVD back yet on a TV but on the camcorder's LCD screen the images looked like they had a lot of contrast which may have been due to the relatively low light. Good sound and easy review of the recorded videos so that I was able to play the movies back to my wife to show her everything she had missed. Looking forward to using it more and exploring the camcorder's capabilities.

Bad Vedio Quality 2008-03-30
I've purchased this camcorder to improve my vedio recording from the miniDV camcorder (Panasonic 3CCD)but unfortunatily I got a very bad pics and vedio.
I strongly recommend the miniDV Panasonic 3ccd and forget the DVD camcorders, the miniDV has a great vedio recording twith amazing colors and clarity. dont swich to DVD camcorders please !

LOUSY CAMCORDER! 2008-01-02
This camera could not have been more disappointing! Although it is easy to use, the quality is dismal. Picture quality, especially of faces, are aweful. Forget getting any footage in low light, everyone looks like ghosts.
Take your money and buy a Sony, you'll be happy you didn't end up with this product!

Enough Horsepower for the casual user 2007-12-30
What I liked:

Using the "Joystick" to access the menus was easy and intuitive.
No noise from the CD mechanism on your finished video.
Plug-in for an external microphone.
Worked well under low light conditions.
Overall easy to use and operate.
DVD format is easy to play on your home entertainment system.

What I didn't like:
You must use the charger/adapter to finalize a disk. The battery pack must be removed to access the camera plug-in for the charger.
The built-in still camera is a joke, my old 2.1 MP camera is much better.
If you intend to use your video for any other purpose, you video files must be converted to another format - this can be difficult and time consuming for the casual user.

Overall impression:
If you just want a solid, easy to use video camcorder, this will fit the bill.

Review: "This Camera is one of the best in its price range. It takes beautiful clear pictures and can be used right out of the box, but its worth learning all its features. The included memory holds about 20-25 pictures so I upgraded to 128mb. I reccomend getting a 128mb card and the Sony camera case. Not only is this one of the best cameras in its class it includes decent software and rechargeable batteries that are at least a 20$ value.
HIGHLY reccomend over canon, kodak, and fuji. One more thing this camera has CARL Zeiss lens (if you dont know, great lens) all the competetors have generic lens."

From the Back Cover The megapixel hype
The fact is a camera’s megapixel rating is only a measure of how many pixels (photosensitive sites) an image sensor has…. An image sensor is simply one component of an entire system that produces a digital photograph… So resist buying into the megapixel hype when you’re choosing a digital camera. From Chapter 1
