This charger only charges, when I plug my 5G iPod in to my computer (Vista), it isn't recognized whatsoever. Another reviewer says that it works with older models, I don't have the means to test that but I suspect it might be true. And the charging is excruciatingly slow. After about 6-8 hours of charging, my battery meter was about half full.

Eliminates cord clutter on your desk by retracting cord when not in use. This product actually has both a USB and a Firewire plug attached to the ipod connector, so it works for either connection type. Doesn't work properly with older ipods (like 3G or older), even though it fits in some of the same sockets. But for its intended and advertised use, it's perfect.

I purchased these because, after about a year, the contacts in the cables that come with the iPod stop working for synching (they're fine for charging) and I'd rather have a few extras around for synching when I need to do that. So far, these have done fine, and since I'll be keeping them in my desk for synching only (and moving the original cables to the various charge stations I have around the house) they should last a good, long time. It's nice to be able to retract them, though I can foresee some wear at the connection between plug and cable and dock plug and cable.

This connector works very well. I like the retractable cable aspect, and that it has both Firewire and USB connectors. Can't beat it for the price!
Only works with old iPods 2007-04-20
this product does not work with the new 5G model. if you have a new ipod, do not purchase this, it will only allow the ipod to charge, not worth the money.
