Customer Reviews
Product seems correct but doesn't work as expected???
2008-06-08
This product arrived quickly fits everything I plug it into put I was under the impression that it would transfer your Ipod data to a standard television set. Everyone I have tried I get sound but no picture.
There were no real instruction with the unit and I have not found anyone who can show me a way to plug it in other than using the color connector to color connectors on TV but still all you get is sound.
Unless you have seen one used and know exactly how to make it work I would not buy as I cannot make mine work. I don't believe it is user error but without an instruction sheet to follow I can only match color to color and hope it works.
Send me the instructions for use and I will give you a new rating.
AV composite cable
2008-05-16
It's not hard to find AV cable that suits ipods. Finally got this one and i am quite happy with it. Works well and the quality of the cable is great too.
great!

ummm yea it's a pretty basic cable... but the important part is it works! i've read a lot of poor reviews on video cables for i pod. mine is a ipod 80gb 5.5 so the video and sound are perfect.... very high shipping costs though it's more like 22 in the end.
VIDEO SIGNAL issue

Problem is not the cable as other reviewers state
The Apple Universal Dock is required for TV out function
No Dock, no video (only sound)

WARNING on 3d gen (video) iPod Nano
2007-10-01
I bought this hoping to use it with my new 3rd generation iPod Nano (8 GB model). It was advertised as compatible with iPod Video models and I assumed it would work with the new video Nano too (it didn't say that it was, I was just gambling the $[...] with shipping that it would). No such luck. I gave 3 stars because I didn't want to trash it for something it wasn't (maybe) designed for - it seems this is caused by Apple knocking out 3rd party competitors and forcing you to buy a special Apple-made cable.
The pins fit but I am unable to switch the video output setting from OFF to ON as instructed in the iPod manual (downloaded from apple.com). The manual suggests you can turn this to ON with or without an Apple AV cable connected - I tried it both ways, and it's locked to OFF. So no video out (but there is audio coming from the TV so I guess the cable works, sort of).
I researched this and found a discussion at an Apple support forum that says that Apple has new $[...] video cables coming out that will contain an "Apple authentication chip" that the Nano senses and then allows the video output to be turned on. So older and 3d party cables will not work. There is apparently some sort of (Apple) docking station that does work - maybe it already has the authentication chip.

Great Item

Great to see the movies on a bigger screen. After learning that Apple had simply switched the leads when they manufactured their own "iPod AV cable." They did that to trick people into purchasing their own AV cables. At any rate, this AV cable is higher quality than iPod's, it 's retractable, and works with iPods.Good one.
