A Waste Of Money! Lousy Warranty!
2008-06-26
I bought this looking for a decent camcorder that I could carry on my motorcycle. I owned it 100 days when it ceased charging the battery. I called Samsung to see if it would be fixed under the warranty. Yeah, right! 90 day warranty! No exceptios! Last Samsung product I'll ever buy!
Samsung did it right with the SC-MX10

Here's what I wanted my video camcorder to be able to do:
1. Record high quality without the need for a CD or cassette (its 2008 for goodness sake, moving parts, are you crazy?)
2. Had a good amount internal memory as well as a memory card capacity of up to 4gb
3. Could be easily played on my HDTV and not look like jumpy and grainy
4. Would download clips easily onto my PC so I could edit and send via email to family and friends
5. Had easy interface and simple-to-use navigation
6. Had good audio quality and anti-shake qualities for smooth shooting
7. Had at least 5x zoom ability.
8. Was under $250
This camera not only met all of my expectations, but exceeded them. It fits and feels nice, shoots very well and when you hook it up to your computer, TV or just want to watch the playback on its 2.7 inch screen, its simple and there's no fuss.
If you like quality, but have a budget and you want a video camera that is both easy to use and looks and sounds good (sound is very important to me), then I highly recommend this one.
The software that comes with wasn't impressive, but when I editted images on Windows Movie Maker, everything worked great.
They say you can tell right away if something is good quality. The second I started reading the manual (and please do), I knew these guys knew how to make a good camera. Thanks Samsung!
Everyone in the family enjoyes its

Everyone from our daughter to her children use and enjoy the camcorder. Our grandson is posting on you tube easily.
Ok, I surrender!

Ok, I don't typically write product reviews. But this time, I was moved to do so because of my complete disappointment in this particular video camera. I am not a video snob, and I don't typically trust nah-sayers on theses reviews. However, trust the reviewers here. This camera is not good at anything. I really wanted a good camera that uses flash memory to store footage, so I picked the Samsung because of its middle price figuring it couldn't be that bad. The video is completely unacceptable. You will get pixilization in broad daylight with any movement of the camera. Spend your time finding a better choice, I know I will. [...]
So So camera - Terrible Customer support
2008-05-21
The camera itself worked well enough for what I needed it to do....for about three weeks. Then the battery just would not hold a charge. If not plugged into a wall, it would die in seconds. I called the customer support line, waded through the prompts and waited on hold for a tech. We did trouble shooting and they determined that the battery was bad. The tech agreed to send a battery. Three weeks later, no battery. I called to ask about the progress of my order only to be told that I needed to call back when "someone who can help you is working". I made time to call on a weekday and tried my luck again. I invested another hour getting to "executive customer service" only to be told that no order for any battery existed in relation to my first transaction number. The rep I was talking to said he would "try" and get me a battery. I requested that the part be expressed since they admitted that they dropped the ball and was flatly told, "No." It's now two weeks later so I called back one more time only to find the situation unchanged, no order placed for the replacement battery. I am returning the camera and I will never buy Samsung again. Be warned.

I dont know what they're talkin about...

I dont know what these other people are talking about. I love this camcorder. It has good picture quality, great sound, great zoom, easy to use, compact, and sturdy. The picture quality looks bad on the LCD screen only. Once you plug it in to your TV or computer, it isnt as pixel-y as on the LCD screen. I dont have 1 complaint for this product. I recommend it to every one. Dont listen to what the other guys tell you.
Not actually 16x9, but stretched 4x3
2008-05-03
I bought this camera because although the resolution isn't spectacular, it claimed to shoot in 16x9. Since consumer-level camcorders can't record Discovery-Channel-type HD anyway, I figured this would be a perfect compromise for the price.
Near as I can tell, however, the "16x9" mode is just 4x3 *stretched to fill the frame*. This is, of course, absurd. I'd heard it mentioned in other reviews around the web, but assumed that the reviewer had missed a setting somewhere. I can't find it either, and several vaguely-worded statements in the manual lead me to believe it isn't there.
That was the single killer feature for me--this camera is unremarkable in every other respect--so I think my two stars are generous. I find it hard to believe that Samsung is actually trying to trick buyers, but I also find it hard to believe that anyone would think this "feature" is useful.
Contraversial item

OK, now I think I am ready to write a review on MX-10. I've got it for $200, and it is the only reason I did not return it on the next day, but decided to play with it for a while. And you know, I like it! It is small, handy, simple, great zoom, great mic, looks and feels solid, great battery life, can record almost 2 hours on my 4GB card using max resolution (SuperFine, 16X9). The camcorder itself is OK; it is the software that comes with it, ruins it! I made my first video clip using Power Director (from CD that came with camera), and was shocked about the bad quality of the video. Just thought: "It cannot be like that!", and plugged my MX-10 directly to TV. What I got was completely different picture. Still, not excellent, but waaaaaaaay better! So, I decided to change software, and made a sample video using Roxio Media Creator. The result was significantly different, much better. So, I decided to keep the camera, in spite of it's drawbacks: slow autofocus, and average color quality. Also, you can't delete the the clips you don't like. You must use your computer, or format the card completely. However, there are too many good things to say about MX-10, which can't be ignored. I rate it 4 stars, but gave 3 only because of my feelings towards the original software. P.S. Gorillacables send items incredibly fast.
PERFECT for newbies

Its so easy to use. Not everybody is a techno-wizard !! I only needed to glance at the quick start guide. The options/setup menu is a breeze. Picture, sound and features are more than adequate. I chose Flash Memory card over tape/dvd as its so compact. With fewer moving parts the camera is less likely to need repair and the battery life is longer. Also I can easily mail a card to friends/relatives abroad and not have to worry about different TV systems or DVD region codes !
For me Samsung have produced a winner
