Editorial Review
Set in fictional Fernwood Ohio this deliriously demented serial focused on the beleaguered heroine Mary Hartman an average American housewife. In the first year Mary suffered the travails of mass murder adultery venereal disease homosexuality religious cults and UFO sightings before she finally succumbed to a nervous breakdown on a syndicated talk show.System Requirements:Run Time: 563 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS Rating: NR UPC: 043396114005 Manufacturer No: 11400

only want to plead for more: vol. 2 2008-03-21
Looking at Mary Hartman after not seeing it 32 years is to be young again. Now, I only can plead with the producers to release the second volume with the rest of the goods. What's with only teasing with volune 1? My friend, who is a very serious Eastern European professor type, who has never seen it before, got hooked. Though she has seen a few soap operas which is probably important to have done. Anyway, I don't know who is in charge but I hope who ever is of making the decision for volume 2 will do it real soon. Thanks!

TRULY PATHETIC TELEVISION SERIES! 2008-03-10
THIS IS BY FAR ONE OF THE MOST BORING AND 'DRY' COMEDIES THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN! IT WAS DEFINETELY NOT FOR MY TASTE!
A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!

Oh, how I waited to see this DVD come out! 2007-11-21
And it was just as funny and weird as I remembered it. Now I am waiting for Volume 2. I don't know if my attraction has to do with memories or whether it really is that good--it was terribly original in its day, but younger people might not see the charm.

first 25 episodes...! 2007-11-20
so what do we do now....they give us the first 25 episodes, then leave us hanging..for how long..? after all these years i do not remember what happens next, the next volume needs to be produced and marketed almost immediately because it is not fair to have fans watch to a critical point and then it stops, that is ridiculous, where and when is volume number two......mary hartman is tops in entertainment.........

THIS IS HILARIOUS! I AM REALLY NOT A SOAP PERSON BUT THIS IS REALLY FUNNY!MONEY WELL SPENT!

Please release the rest of the series 2008-06-26
Please. We want more! We want it all! 25 episodes just scratch the surface for those of us who have waited years and years to be able to see "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" again.

Nostalgia from the 1970's 2008-06-15
Nostalgia from the 70's for those that can appreciate dry humor and satire of the soap opera genre. Louise Lasser displays wit and dead pan laughs that was not seen in television of that day. The ensemble of characters is worth watching in their often bizarre plots and twists. Worth buying if only to be seen once and saved.

Funnier in '74 2008-05-03
How times have changed. This was a lot more transgressive and funnier in 1974. It's good to see it on DVD anyway.

This series is FINALLY available and it got to me in perfect condition and very quickly.

Mary Hartman 2008-03-26
I recall this series from watching it many years back. I did not know if I would still enjoy it (I loved it then). To my delight I found it just as entertaining as before. Now as a retired professor of sociology I enjoy the spoofs of the early "soaps" that this series makes. In the early soaps you typically had well off families in the professions or businesses that paid extremely well. Here you see the working class families struggling with a range of absurd issues. The only thing that puzzles me is why one did not see these fine actors in other series.
