Worth The Money

Works great, I used it with Vista and a 160 GB drive. Two complaints, the power cord is too short for my liking and the on/off slide switch is very light duty.
Superior Cooling!

The word "Coolmax" is not just a brand name, it's a promise kept.
However, that was not my opinion when I first opened the box. All the cooling fans I have, mount on the bottom of the hard drive and blow air at the electronic components. Coolmax mounts theirs on the top of the drive, and almost flush against it. Once a drive is installed inside, there appears to be no room at all for air circulation. I've been through more than several external enclosures that promised cooling but never delivered. To me, this was going to turn out to be just another disappointment. Before even plugging it in, I was already disgusted.
This Coolmax is a violation of everything I've experienced with drive coolers, yet somehow it works. I don't grasp the air-flow physics of this thing, but I feel air circulation at the front, back, and over the fan. I own a Max 4 by Thermaltake and was impressed by it. Yet this Coolmax blows away the competition. The drive doesn't even get warm! In an air-conditioned room, the outer casing is still cool to the touch after several hours of use!
The big negative of this enclosure is the backup software disk that is supposed to be enclosed, according to the owner's booklet. You may not get one. I did not, and reviewers at other merchant sites are reporting the same. However, you can download the software from their website. The free registration key code is on a text file among the files extracted. Even then, the backup software did not work in my computer. I should be mad, but I'm not. I'm just astonished at the cooling ability of this enclosure.
The other reviewer is reporting vibration problems, but I did not experience that.

The enclosure keeps your drive cool which is what really matters.
However, it is loud... Also I have vibration problems that create even more noise. I've found that folding a piece of paper up and sticking it under the front of the enclosure solves the vibration. After that its great.
