Wagner Paint Crew 770

Hello,
I am repainting the interior of a 2,000 sqft home with 15 raised panel doors. I started brushing a door and that took me about 30 mins per side. With the best Kelly Moore paint and good quality brush the results were not satisfactory; too long and brush strokes. I then tried my HVLP spray gun but you really have to thin the latex paint. Again, poor results; too slow and "dry spots". I decided to gamble $99 for a reconditioned Wagner Paint Crew 770. Once I set it up with a 313 tip and sprayed my first door, I had the feeling of "why didn't I know about this sooner?" I could paint one side of a door in under one minute!!!!! I added a little paint conditioner, strained the paint first and produced near professional results. With latex paint! I can't imagine applying latex paint any nicer than with this airless sprayer.
The product arrived in almost new condition with all accessories no damage. Set up was easy. Buy a swivel for the gun to make managing the hose easier and a few tips depending on your job. This product is worth every penny! It is a joy to use.
Cons; take the time to thoroughly clean up following the instructions to the letter. This is NOT terrible as some say, but will take about 40 mins to do correctly. Work smart; drop cloth. You need to move the gun quickly as it lays down a lot of paint. Wear respirator and proper clothing. You can easily go through a gallon ($30)in a few minutes.
Fence Staining the Easy Way 2008-05-23
I had 450 ft. of 8' Cedar fence to stain. I tried a couple of other paint sprayers, but they just couldn't deal with the thick stain going on the fence. So, I bought a reconditioned Wagner Spray Tech to try. This sprayer is PHENOMENAL!! I was able to complete the whole fence in one morning. The spray comes out perfect and the fact that it holds 2 gallons at a time, saves time refilling. It is, also, very easy to clean and get it ready for the next job. Try one -- you will wish you had bought one a long time ago.

The Wagner paint crew does an amazing job. I read reviews and saw that for the most part it was well recieved, however I was still worried. I was going to be painting the entire outside of my house. This normally would be a two weekend job with paint rollers and brushes but I finished the entire house in 12 hours. I would recommend this to anyone especially for th erefurbished price. It is a bit of a pain to clean and the hose can get tangled, but both are small complaints. Not that painting is fun but it actually made it much more pleasant then it would have been.
Great sprayer/missing parts/sketchy rebuild 2008-05-22
The second sprayer I received worked great with stain on my fence. It took minutes to spray a fence that would have taken all day to do with a brush. However the intake valve tool was missing.
The first sprayer I received was not rebuilt properly. Out of the box the intake valve was full of white latex paint. It was also missing the intake valve removal tool which is necessary to clean the intake valve after each use. Either Wagner is doing a poor job of rebuilding the units or Amazon is is sending out returned units that haven't been rebuilt.
I will have to send Wagner my invoice to get an intake valve removel tool.
Amazon was cool and paid the shipping to return the first unit.
Okay for thin paint.

The manufacturer's info says you don't need to thin the paint. If you don't it clogs and dumps a hopper full (up to two gallons) on the ground. Big money and time waster. If you buy a viscosity cup, and are VERY careful, it works. I recommend spending a little more and getting a Draco or SprayTech, low end pro model, for $200 (refurb) - $400.
If you are doing a few small jobs such as s fence or a couple of rooms, a Wagner that sells new for $50 t0 $100 works 99% as well. The only hassell with those, is filling the quart jar over and over.
Poor design

The unit is good for very thin paints but the input paint valve is designed poorly. The very bottom "O" ring comes off easily and lodges between the seat and stem preventing the pump from building pressure. All paint must then be dumped, everything washed out with soapy water. What's worse is that you have no way to purge the paint from the hose without pump pressure. A garden hose doesn't cut it unless you have an adapter for a garden hose thread to a 3/8" NPT. Holding the hose nozzle up to the paint hose won't work due to the thickness of paint... too much resistance in the hose... I got 2 hours of use to my 8 hours of dicking around with the unit...very unhappy...
If only I could figure out how to clean it 2008-06-18
I purchased the recon wagner paintcrew paint sprayer from Amazon. It arrived and looked in excellent condition out of the box. It has the hose, spray gun and hopper. I used two adjustable wrenches to secure the hose to the hopper and the spray gun to the hose.
It took me about one hour to paint my kitchen and hall way. It really did an awesome job spraying the latex paint. I can't believe how it takes all the hard work out of painting when using a brush or roller.
I tried following the cleaning instructions, but I'm worried that I didn't do a very good job. I took the spray gun apart and tried cleaning all the parts, then I rinsed out the hopper with a garden hose. I'm not sure what happens to the paint in the hose itself.
I give myself minus 3 stars for ruining my shirt, pants and hair!
PAINT SPRAYER 2008-06-15
I recieved the unit in near perfect condiditon there was only a few small spec of paint on it the gun and hose where brand new. I put the unit together and painted a 20 x 14 shed in 1 hour, The unit pumped the paint perfectly and it did not require and thinning of the paint to be able to spay. I was using a 15 year exterior latex paint. I had tried to spray this paint with the small version of a wagner sprayer the one with the paint container attached to the gun and it would not spray it at all.
Clean up of the unit is pretty good but the unit will leave some paint in the hopper, it would be a lot easier if the hopper was removable. I switched from green paint to white and did not get any resedual green paint spraying out. To clean all I did was run water thru the unit. The over spray from unit was very low and you can paint a fairly straight line also
Painting has never been easier 2008-06-14
I have never used a paint sprayer before, but I was able to get it done with the easy to understand instructions. The performance of this sprayer is awsome. Clean up was also simple. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to tackle large amounts of painting.
