consists lots of features like ipod dock, aux line in, USB port, cool sound, easy to use ..just great for my room.

Great product, no questions 2008-08-10
Alright, I am an audiophile and love to tweak stuff all the time to get a perfect setup. I have a lot of experience with car audio but not much with home audio. I knew when buying this product that it doesn't have a lot of tunability on the EQ curves but it was cheap and everyone said it sounded good. I decided to give it a try. Well, I love it. It sounds great and I don't have to always mess with a bunch of stuff to make it sound nice. It is also really easy to install. If you can't install it, you are an idiot because everything is color-coded. I literally put the speakers where I wanted them and plugged them in to the right places and I was watching a movie. Very easy to use. I also like the hack so I can watch international DVD's with no problems. I have connections in South America for certain movies and it is nice to be able to watch them on the DVD players. It looks good, puts out ample bass and sound great. I paid a total of $100 including shipping for this setup and I couldn't be happier. If you can find one for cheap, definetely pick it up.

unbeatable value 2008-08-07
This thing was worth every single penny period. It is very loud, and it has many great features. I love that it has an HDMI output, it really helps in up converting standard definition DVDs. This thing has other great features, such as an Auxiliary input, Ipod dock, and USB port. The remote is easy to use and has a great layout. All of the speakers are labeled, and the wires are colour coded, so anyone can set it up without any problems.

If you are looking for an all in one box set up, this is it. 11 months later I can honestly say, I would buy this again without hesitation.

Good product, great customer service 2008-08-05
The first DVD player with surround sound speaker system I recieved was defective. The sound was amazing, but the DVD player itself would not play DVDs properly. I alerted the seller, and was instructed to send the DVD player back to them (this was a refurbished DVD player, by the way). Within about a week and a half, I received a new refurbished DVD player, and haven't had any problems since. Now the product works great!

Its best value for the price 2008-06-11
Well, sound is good, Not too far reaching but satisfies home theater experience for apartment style living. This got a nice feature which lets it play wide array of different format. You've ipod dock that works with itouch. I have ownership experience of over 8 month of usage with this system. Well for the price I am sure you cannot go wrong with tihs system.

excellent 2008-01-31
Yeah, so I bought this in, I think, May of last year when I graduated from High School. Then it cost two hundred dollars, which is very reasonable for a complete Home Theater System with 1000 watts of total, peak power. The speakers have hardwired plastic ends and cheap 20 gauge wires, but it's simple to splice the wires, most people are just really lazy and don't want to do it; of course, not that it'd help sound quality. The wires it includes are quite long and can accommodate all but a mansion-sized living room. (not that you should even have the rear speakers on your rear wall, rather directly behind the prime viewing area.) and the iPod dock is quite handy, though, as mentioned by others, is cheaply constructed. The dock also has a problems with changing the volume, so when you wish to turn up your tunes, you must get up and turn the volume manually on the theater system. Over all, I highly recommend this, it's a good starter home theater in a box system and can impress with its high sound quality. It has up sampling for your CDs and is compatible with DTS cds.

Pros:
-HDMI, S-Video, composite, and audio out outputs.
-Coaxial Digital Audio input
-iPod Dock
-100 Watts of total Power
-DTS enabled (standard these days)
-USB enabled inputs, along with headphone jack in.
-Divx compatible
-DVD playback region can be changed with the remote

Cons:
-plastic Hardwired speaker wires
-iPod music can't be turned up with the remote
-Disc Tray seems flimsy, but it's current style.

Almost perfect 2008-01-30
I decided to go ahead and get a Philips after reading the reviews, good and bad. One thing that struck me about the negative reviews were the complaints about the wires and how they couldn't be changed from the factory set. Well duh. This is not a theater that techno geeks would be satisfied with. If you want to complain, buy your own components from the groud up and have a ball. For most of us middle of the roaders, this is great. With the color coding on the speakers, I found it amazing how easy it was to set up. I was asking myself, "Is that all I have to do?" I think I took longer to set up because I wasn't sure it was that easy! I was watching my Liberia Angel Voices video in less than a half hour. I couldn't get over how I could hear all the nuances of their treble voices and the instrumentals.

It misses 5 stars because for some reason, the composite video cable only gave me a black and white picture. Super sound. I mean stupendous sound but for some reason, I now had a black and white TV? Before packing things up and returning the unit, I decided to splurge on an s-video cable ($5) and see what happened. Well, I got my color back. S-video gives a better signal anyway so I am happy. The dvd tray is a little flimsy but for the price, oh well.

As I said, for a middle of the road or even low end unit, I am having a blast listening to my music videos, dvd's and cd's. I also tried that little trick about changing the unit to an all region capable set, that M Felix wrote about, and to my excitement, IT WORKED! That trick is worth the price. I buy a lot of foreign dvd's and have had no problem except for the latest one. Now, I can watch it and enjoy the sound and picture quality even more.

Even though I've only had my unit for a day, I highly recommend this unit. I have no complaints, especially using the IPod dock. I hadn't used the Ipod in a long time because I got tired of the ear plugs/ear phones. Even the battery had run down from disuse. But, after connecting the dock and placing my Ipod in the dock, after five minutes of charging, my library of tunes came out crystal clear and filled the room. You gotta love that.

Enjoy yours. I know I will mine.

wish I could give it no stars 2008-01-28
I got this for a gift from my parents and had the same problem as others. It sucks because you can't take it back to the place of purchase so you are stuck with Philips useless customer service and all of the related headaches. I will probably end up smashing it in frustration and buying a different system from another manufacturer.

My ears are happy 2008-01-07
By now, most readers of reviews know all the specs and highlights of this home theater system, so I will make this a review on those intangible things. On arrival, the system was very well packaged with no damage to any of the components. The included quick start guide was enough for me to get started with the install. My experience and skill level is probably average, this being the 2nd HTS I have set-up. It was very easy to install, took about 45 minutes, and I was playing my favorite dvd for testing the speakers (Days of Thunder). The sound was impressive in my viewing room which is 12 x 16 feet. Good surround effect and the sub puts out plenty of deep bass. Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase.
