Really sharp...

This thing is really sharp. They have made an attempt to make it safe. Just be real careful to keep little fingers out of the blade area.
It does a great job getting the clam shells open.

Pyranna Plastic Package Opener
Excellent product. Safe and easy to use. This was a gift for my father, who has carpal tunnel syndrome, so this has been a great alternative to scissors when opening packages. It also prevents getting cut by the sharp plastic packaging. Simple, but useful. The only irony is it comes in a plastic package that you must open to retrieve the opener. :)
Better than I expected

not "people friendly"

This is a good idea, but difficult to use. There are plastic package openers that are more "people friendly".

Works good. Hard to open after use. I use a pen to open it. Beats using scissors.
Pyranna Review

A BLUE PLASTIC-COVERED EASY-GRIPPING CUTTER FOR SLICING THE EDGE OFF HARD-TO-OPEN PLASTIC PACKAGES. IT FEATURES AN EASY GRIP DESIGN, DURABLE STAINLESS STEEL CUTTING BLADES, AND A SAFETY-SMART MECHANISM THAT STAYS CLOSED WHEN NOT IN USE. Gone are the days of struggling with hard plastic packages. Gone are the potential cuts from using razor knives, regular knives and sharp clippers.Sometimes simple, workable things like this can change your work or home place to be more safe, prevent accidents and remove stress and strain. This is a high-quality instrument that you can use for a long time. Do you ever buy things that come in hard-to-open plastic packaging? I think we all do. Once someone sees you open a package with this, they'll want one to--to make it easier.PLUS WE THROW IN A NUT/BOLT GAUGE FOR FREE--GIVE IT A TRY
Hard to open the opener
2008-03-26
This is a wonderful idea and it works great EXCEPT it is hard to open. The instructions say to push the button to open the opener but the button is very hard to push for most people. We use a screwdriver or the eraser end of a pencil so it takes two tools to open a package but still better than using sissors.
poorly made

The package opener is a bit tuff to use, and is not made very well. I was a bit disappointed. Marty
Pyranna plastic opener

The Pyranna plastic opener is a great improvement over using scissors or the like to open those difficult plastic packages that so many items and toys come in these days. It was a bit difficult for me to use in the beginning, but worked fine and was a very good purchase. It makes opening those kind of packages much easier and safer.
Does the job - some of the time

I saw one of these in a mall store and figured for ten bucks, it was worth a try.
It works much of the time.
The design is intended to protect the user from cutting their fingers on a very sharp rotary cutter. You have to open a lock to get the top and bottom halves apart. The lock is very poorly designed and is tough to open. This failing alone, frankly, is enough to justify looking for an alternative.
The Pyranna will not fit over every plastic package design. And in many cases, you can only cut out a section of the plastic, not cut it entirely away, so you still have to wrestle with the packaging. The device will, however, cut the heaviest plastic I've encountered. But oddball package designs defeat it.
Is it worth ten bucks? Yeah, but you might want to look at other such devices first.
