Same old Joe
2007-08-22
It's is amazing that with more than 5 albums under his belt Joe can still belt out fresh material. Joe has always had a low key trademark with his music and Ain't Nothin' Like Me is no exception to his other albums. I have always been a fan of Joe because he sticks to the basics and follows no trends.
Standout tracks include
Get to know me
Where you at
My favorite track It's Me
I recommend think current Joe fans can appreciate his consistency with this album.
This CD is the bomb

I wasn't really feelin' this CD at first. But like a lot of great R&B music that gets over looked it takes about 2 or 3 listens to it all the way thru for you to get the feel of it. I love this CD. If you like R&B music buy it! It's sexy and soulful.

Here you have a true artist, his genre of music, his voice, his sincerity in song, the energy he uses to put it accross, fasinating. From "Chandler ave _______________", to Joe. Who has always been Joe, but now he's Joe!
3-1/2 stars -- Good, but ain't nothin' like the OLD Joe

It seemed like Joe was struck by the Mary J. Blige curse: you release great album after great album after great album (Everything, All That I Am, My Name Is Joe), but then you release an average album (the ironically titled Better Days), and then things continue to go downhill from there (And Then). Joe then had a single floating around called "If I Was Your Man" from an album called Who Is Joe, and although the song was good, the album still got pushed back. It finally was released earlier this year with the new title Ain't Nothin' Like Me, and I must say that Joe is starting to return to form.
Notable selections include the interesting "It's Me" and the aforementioned "If I Was Your Man". But the best songs are at the end of the album, like "Love Is Just a Game" (co-written by Diane Warren, who is also getting her stride back) and "You Should Know Me". And "Life Is a Party" looks a little corny on paper, but it still works.
But there are a few missteps on this album in the form of uptempo tracks, mainly because they're disposable club tracks, and the subject matter suggests that Joe is too old to still be making songs like that. "Get to Know Me" (with Nas) is okay, but songs like "If I Want Her" and especially "Go Hard" might have worked better had they been on his first album. Another problem is adding sub-par rappers to already questionable songs, like Fabolous on "Let's Just Do It" and Tony Yayo on the title track (the obligatory G-Unit collabo -- although Young Buck kicks a nice verse). But worse than that is the Cool & Dre-produced "Just Relax", which is a complete jacking of A Tribe Called Quest's "Electric Relaxation"; not to mention that Dre's adlibs are interpolated from "Bonita Applebum" (wrong song, man).
Joe's singing ability was never questioned, but he really needs to go back to making better structured songs like he did in the `90s; and I'm not just talking ballads because even his fast songs were great back then. Still, Ain't Nothin' Like Me is his best album in a while, so pick it up.

That's Joe as always - nearly the perfect mix and he still knows how to give you the shivers.
Waiting for more to come ....
Great overall effort!

Ok, So, I like,
So, I heard this song called "My love" on the radio and fell in love. The sound was great and what I think R&B was missing. Since I am a Joe fan, I decided to purchase the cd and I didn't regret it.
I love this cd, I haven't even payed much attention to the written quality but I love the fact that I have played it twice already and not once, did I feel like I had to press "forward".
I knew that I liked this cd because usually I love to hear slow songs but this cd has a fair amount of uptempo sounds and they were all great.
So, if you are looking for some smooth music-this is for you. If you are looking for some "two step" uptempto sounds-this is for you. This is the cd that you can put in and just let play. A must have if you like some mixture. I must say that the rap duets were great.

Nice beats, but little substance as usual. The vocals are smooth and lullaby-ish, but you can't deny that it doesn't take much talent to make a CD such as "Ain't Nothing Like Me". On the contrary, I think there are a LOT of CDs out that are like this, following the similar formula:
Guest stars, hot beats and little substance.
What happened to:
All That I Am
And:
Better Days
I think that Joe that was better at crooning is gone forever.
He's gone the way of shallow, rap-collaborating like some of my favorite artists seem to be doing to sell out:
Mariah, R.Kelly (the worst of them all) and the like.
Highlights:
Just Relax
If I Was Your Man
Where You At?
2.5 stars.
I'm feelin this one!

I only have one other Joe CD, that's My Name Is.. Joe, but I'm glad I copped this one! I like how it's got a good R&B/rap feel to most of it. After getting two good releases from him, I might have to go back and get some of his earlier stuff some of you guys have been talking about! Definitely making good use of Joe when the girl's around. No doubt.
My favorite songs are Where You At, If I Was Your Man, Feel For You, Get to Know Me and Go Hard.
If you're an R&B or Joe fan, I say get it.
Delivered on time in perfect condition.

The seller was great. The CD could have been better. Too much rapping not enough singing but he does have a very good voice.
