Great concept that failed 2008-07-15
This is such a great concept. My kids were excited about it, it looked perfect and could have been such a wonderful product.

The concept I give 5 stars. The product itself I give 1 star (especially when you factor in the price you pay for a flawed product).

The product is sturdy and colorful. Cordless which makes it easy for the kids to move around with. The games are educational and great for the kids.

All around it is a great product. Except for one thing. The mouse does not work. My kids so wanted to play with it and ended up frustrated that it didn't work right. I sat down to try it out and it was extremely difficult for me to use (as well as my 12yr old and husband who also tried it out). When you add in the small mouse pad and it is just even more difficult to use.

I tried rolling it on the carpet and using a regular mouse pad next to it. None of this helped.

My kids never play with it besides the few times they tried to. I have thought about just giving them the computer part to pretend with. But, it's too expensive for that. I went out and bought them one of those battery operated laptops instead.

I am thinking of selling this thing on Ebay or something. It's useless, a disapointment and irritates me that I wasted so much money on it. The product cost me $60.-, I paid the $10.- for the adapter and then paid taxes (because it shipped from my state) and s&h charges. So, in the end, I paid about $90.- for it all. Luckily I didn't order additional games.

Awesome toy... while it worked 2008-07-04
As a teacher, I'm always looking for interactive learning opportunities for my kids (2 and 4). This seemed like an excellent concept, and I was very pleased with the basic game that it came with. It has two level options, the first one just getting the child acquainted with clicking and pressing buttons and the second level taking it a step farther with letter ID and spelling activities. My children have not used the computer much, so it was perfect for them. That particular game may be too easy if your child has already used the regular computer a lot. In any case, I thought this game system was really great until some of the keys stopped working. The O and the K no longer work on the keyboard, which is a real problem when you are doing spelling games! I'm beyond the three month warranty period, however this game system had not been used much at all. We just aren't into watching TV much, so we didn't use it very often. I'd say that we probably totaled about 2-4 weeks of average use, yet it still broke that quickly. VERY disappointing for an expensive toy from LeapFrog.

WOW! 2008-06-24
WE LOVE IT!
NOTE: Make sure you have it on the correct settings for your location:
When I first hooked it up, my screen was rolling but I looking up the issue on the LeapFrog website and found this:
Make sure the PAL(Europe)/NTSC (USA/Canada) switch is in the correct position. The switch is located in the console's battery compartment. Turn the console off before switching between PAL and NTSC.
YAY!
Works great.
We love Leap Products.

More Educational than other Video games 2008-05-23
This was a X-mas present for our 3 year son. He was very excited for the fist 3 months but now he plays just every now and then.

The ClickStart is a great toy to get them started on the computer world with educational games and control. I find it useful and recreational, the image quality is not great when you use a big screen HDTV as I do, but I don't think kids see the difference. Great material, resistant to boys treatment... nice colors.

On the downside, the mouse does not go on "stand by" mode or something similar, therefore the battery life is not as long as I expected. And clearly, to keep your kids interested on the game, you have to keep buyng the games... one game will not be interesting after a couple of months.

Good Idea, needs work 2008-05-14
The difficulty level is about right for my 3 year old. She likes to play with this and it has been educational but there are a few problems. The mouse pad is too small for the mouse and the cord is really stiff, both can make the game a little frustrating for her. The keyboard is supposed to turn off after 5 min., but I have walked into the room and seen the light flashing on the keyboard when no one has been around for hours. We got this for christmas and I have already went through 3 sets of batteries. My daughter has probably only played on it for 10 hours total. Now the base unit won't turn on or off right away, you have to try a few times to get it to work. I think it's a great idea but there might be something similar out there that has a better design. I wished I would have shopped around more before I bought this.

Sitting your kid in front of the TV to learn doesn't seem right to me. 2008-05-07

Good little toy 2008-04-28
We have had other LEapster toys which we are happy with, so had no hesitations when buying the LeapFrog 'My First Computer'. I have three children aged 4, 5 and 7 who love it. It is especially good for the 4 and 5 year old, but maybe too young for my 7 year old daughter.

The pros are that it is durable (rather than letting the kids play games on our home computer), it shows up on the TV Screen (so others can easily watch, rather than crowding around the home computer) and the games are educational.

The downside is that the games have limited things to do, and can be very easy, which then become 'boring'. My kids seem to love it though, so perhaps that is just me, the adult, expecting more entertainment/options from the games.

I still think it is a worthwhile product, and my kids love it.

mouse stopped working right away 2008-04-19
My son enjoyed this the first time he used it. It is a great concept, simple computer games that teach shapes/ colors/ numbers. However, the mouse started to malfunction the second time we used it and now (after 1 month) doesn't work at all. You can't even log on without the mouse. The toy wasn't damaged in any way to cause a malfunction like this. Also, there is no on/off switch on the keyboard, so you have to take the batteries out (which requires a screw-driver) to prevent them from running down.

ClickStart is a sorry version of a real computer, even for toddlers! 2008-04-11
I really wanted to like the Clickstart. I was so excited when we first bought it for our 2 year-old. However, the graphics is quite poor and very pixely, like games from the 1980s. The games themselves are also very basic. There are no fun music or dancing characters like most online computer games. We are very disappointed in Leapfrog.

Our son, who loves Starfall, Fisher-Price, and other free online games on our IBM Thinkpad, was far less interested in the Clickstart games. We had bought the Clickstart because we didn't want him playing on our expensive computer regularly, wanted to give him his "own" computer, and wanted him to be able to play it on the TV which has a much bigger screen. Also, he can't use the Trackpoint mouse on our laptop yet, so I thought that Clickstart would be a good way for him to learn the mouse. He was very excited and interested in the beginning, but it failed to capture his attention for long, unlike the online games that he's been enjoying for quite a while now.

FUN, but 1st one didn't work! 2008-04-01
My 3 and 1/2 yr old daughter LOVES this computer. But the first one we bought from Amazon was broken - the mouse wouldn't work properly, then it stopped working altogether. We struggled though all the "troubleshooting" for days. Finally, needing to return it - I couldn't return it through Amazon! I recommend buying this product from a place you can easily return it, if you get a faulty one.
We bought another one at a local store and it works perfectly and my daughter loves it!

Dora the Explorer Mr. Face Plush Backpack Dora the Explorer Mr. Face Plush Backpack
Review: My daughter is a big Dora fan and uses this backpack to carry around her favorite toys and books, which is why I gave it 5 stars for educational value. My friend's daughter has it as well, and love hers too. We've had it 6 months now and it's holding up just fine. The map opens up for an added bonus. My daughter likes to wear it and sing the backpack song from the show.
Star Wars Episode III: Darth Vader Voice Changer Helmet Star Wars Episode III: Darth Vader Voice Changer Helmet
Wow, do I ever wish they had this out when I was a kid! I bought it, and my wife, kids and I have all been playing with it. It has a chest box with several buttons that plays about 5 of Darth's quotes from the movies, or you can switch it to voice changer. The voice changer is fun! It has 3 different levels of depth for changing the voice. ... A must for Star Wars Geeks!!!!
