Love of Ne-Yo... 2008-08-30
I am a BIG fan of Neyo and this CD is WONDERFUL!I love his style..!

Ne-Yo a step backward ? 2008-07-12
I think Ne-Yo's second effort is most likely a step back from his first effort . Where so sick, when your mad and sexy love really made me feel his music. I don't think this album was as strong a think because of you,go on girl where his best efforts and his duet with Jennifer Hudson was great the rest is kinda just there I think he needs to move away from only love songs and try some new things as he does'nt appear as versatile as say J.Holiday but he is several notches above Chris Brown I am also feel perhaps Ne-Yo is rushing his product out as soon he will have a 3rd album out he may need to step back as he may risk becoming over exposed . Ne-Yo is a very good vocalist along with a great songwriter but he must build to being a more complete artist .

Ne-Yo - Because Of You 2008-05-16
Because of You is pretty much, In My Own Words Part Two. He sticks to alot of the same methods that he had on his first album. He doesnt really work with big name producers except Stargate, which he works with alot less on this album. But the one thing he did change up on this album is there is alot more slow jams. But he doesnt do the slow jams very well like i was expecting him to. The writing on this album is still on point. But the production is a little off i think. This album has alot more darker appearance than his first album did. There are some standouts though, like the heavenly bright spring song, "Angel", which just has a very mellow and laid back vibe to it. And then the mid tempo ballad "Do You" is another excellent track, in some ways it reminds me of So Sick. And then the relationship mending "Make It Work" is another classic. But other than a few other good tracks there is not much to offer on this album. The problem with this album is that it seems like he didnt put much time into it. With his first album, you could tell he planned it out and picked his best songs. With this album, i feel like he rushed the album out. I mean, he only took one year off between this album and his last. He needs to sit on his matierial a little longer to make sure its right for the albums he is putting out. And on top of that the actual artwork in the booklet is lame. So is the cover. But Ne-Yo still rocks, and he still served up a good enough album to please his fans if nothing else.

Grade:
B-

Ne-Yo appears to be "addicted" to formula 2008-01-26
Ne-Yo is one of the most talented people in the music industry at this time. Many of his contemporaries have never arranged a song, never written a lyric, and/or have no control of their musical career. Rather, they are puppets to their record companies. He is different from most other artists, and that is something that I appreciate and respect about him. Most know that Ne-Yo has contributed to some of the most successful songs released lately such as his "So Sick", Beyonce's "Irreplaceable" and Rihanna's "Unfaithful." So, naturally, I wanted to take a listen to his debut and sophomore LPs. When comparing the two, his debut, entitled "In My Own Words" is a better overall album. "Because of You", though, is a solid album; it just doesn't contain the magic and the undeniable brilliance of some of the songs on his debut. No song on "Because of You" is better than average, and that's not good. The beats on this album are very "Ne-Yo". He did not come outside of his box production-wise, and perhaps that is understandable. Music listeners are still familiarizing themselves with him, afterall. The lyrics. I was not impressed with his lyrics, but they are decent and all of his songs have messages, so two thumbs up for that.

"Addicted" is a decent track; he administers some impressive falsetto and the lyrics are racy. I enjoyed this track, namely because of the melody, lyrics and good production. "Can We Chill" is an album highlight. Ne-Yo stayed true to his style as far as the melody and production are concerned but I liked it. "Because of You" was released to radio, but I never enjoyed it when it was played. However, it blends well with the rest of the album and it is a good song, overall. This track will have you wanting to run to the nearest dance floor because it has an infectious beat. "Say It" is a very sensual track. Again, Ne-Yo gives his listeners a racy track, but this time, the lyrics, production and his voice are have sexual hints! I enjoyed this song. Allow me to vent. I am "SO SICK" of hearing hints of Beyonce's "Irreplaceable" on other artist's songs. "Go On Girl" sounds almost identical to that song, and so do a few songs from Chris Brown's sophomore LP. Please, please, please, stop recycled the same, overplayed beat because most of us are tired of hearing it. Ugh! The song as a whole is pretty good, but not memorable, because, when comparing this song to "Irreplaceable", the latter easily wins.

Good work, Ne-Yo. This is a good album. If you enjoyed "In My Own Words", you will take something from this album as well, since there are numerous similarities in the two. 3 stars, because it's a flawed album in some places.

Mikeisha's Top 5

1. "Can We Chill"
2. "Go On Girl"
3. "Say It"
4. "Addicted"
5. "Crazy"

NeYo Because of You ! 2008-01-13
Wonderful CD ! ! Each song is good. I first listened to NeYo on the radio and I was impressed but, his live performance on Larry King was what made go ahead and purchase his album. I am very glad I did. His style is very similar to Michael Jackson with a lot of vocal range, lots of emotion, vulnerability, and tenderness. I love this CD. If you are on the fence, I think you would really enjoy it! Especially if you love that old school R & B (Michael Jackson style). I know I do!

I still can't turn off the radio 2007-12-02
Usually when an artist releases a new album within a year of his previous album, it sounds rushed (but most Def Jam artists do that anyway). But Ne-Yo beat the sophomore slump with his latest release, Because of You.

First off; I'm sorry, but I just don't see where the Michael Jackson and Prince comparisons are coming from (and I personally think that an artist has to be in the game for several years to warrant comparisons like that). But there are catchy numbers on here, like the title track, "Go On Girl", and "Can We Chill" (and I don't understand why the latter is being completely ignored by radio). "Do You" is also good even though the subject matter entails the kind of question that you're really not supposed to ask.

Other ballads also impress, like "Angel"; and "Say It" is perfect baby-making music. And if you haven't heard the Jennifer Hudson duet "Leaving Tonight" yet, you have no idea what you're missing. With only a couple of corny tracks worth skipping ("Addicted" and "Sex with My Ex"), Ne-Yo has definitely succeeded in making another great album. In My Own Words was a tad better, but Because of You is still worth the bucks.

...I Skip Tracks 2007-09-18
I don't like to own albums in which I skip tracks...which makes this album dissappointing...I LOVE 7 of the tracks...the other 5 are garbage
