Smart, Powerful Design The nüvi 200 is built with a high-sensitivity WAAS-enabled GPS receiver for extreme accuracy, as well as an SD card slot for storing your media and additional navigation tools, and a USB interface for loading data. All this is wrapped up in a package that measures 3.8 x 2.8 x .8 inches (W x H x D) and weighs just 5.2 ounces. The nüvi 200's 3.5-inch (diagonal) display is touchscreen-enabled, making it a cinch to control the device with your fingertips. A rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides up to five hours of battery life depending on use.

nüvi comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator NT street maps for the continental United States, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, including a hefty database of more than 6 milliong points of interest (POIs), such as hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and more, that are searchable by name or category. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nüvi takes you there with 2D or 3D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. Garmin gets its map data from NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping. In addition, the nüvi accepts custom (POIs), such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs.
Important note about map updates: Due to our high volume of sales, almost every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. If you ever do need a map update, you can purchase one from Amazon.com at our Garmin Store.

PREPARE to PAY $69 more any time

Just talked to their customer service, they DON'T give free map upgrade to any previous purchase even within 1 day old. They just guarantee new maps when purchased, so be prepared to pay $69 for a map upgrade anytime. It should be zero star for that reason. If you are living in a fast road changing areas, this is a junk after 1 year.
Garmin Nuvi 200

I have owned Garmin and Magellen GPS devices and I find that the Garmin are more accurate and have a much better POS database. I find that it holds its signal very well, even in NY with all those skyscrapers. The only thing that I do not like about the Garmin is that it sometimes takes a little while to aquire the satelites. Overall, I really like the Garmin and I even think the 200 is a little better then the 350.

Very good for the price 2008-04-29
The voice commands are clear and loud. It connects to satellites very quickly. For basic GPS navigation (I do not need all the extras), I am very satisfied with this product.
AFFORDABLE GPS 2008-04-29
This is a perfect entry level GPS.The Screen is vivid even in the brightest conditions. The directions can be heard clearly at normal engine and radio levels.The 200 doesnt have "text to speech"; which means you'll hear "turn left in .4 miles" instead of "turn left on Canal Street in .4 miles" Not a big deal to most. Also the unit sometimes takes a minute to find satellites. If you can live with these nit picks then you will love this GPS!

CONS: no "text to speech", doesn't come with case

As far as price and portability is concerned, this GPS Navigator is just the solution. If you're looking to get a NICE GPS but don't want to shell out all that much cash for the latest and greatest, this one definitely gets the job done and it fits in your pocket.

I purchased this Garmin and the maps were at least 3 years old. After using the GPS for 3 weeks, it is very hard to type the correct letters and numbers. You have to push the letter below the letter you want to get it to work. I would not recommend ordering the less expensive models online. I feel the reason they are less expensive online than in stores is that the have old maps and the stores need to get rid of the old inventory.
Unbeatable for the price 2008-04-27
In my profession, I drive hundreds of miles a week to new locations, and I don't know how I did it before I bought this GPS. It does not always send me the best way, but it always gets me where I am going. Of all the units I have seen, all have some flaws, so I went inexpensive and would buy the same unit tomorrow.

I bought as a gift because I am happy w/ my 360 Nuvi. I chose the inexpensive 200 nuvi. What a SURPRISE when I opened it to charge... it is ALL YOU NEED. No frills and no things you don't use in navigation. AWESOME
