Editorial Review
If you're looking to combine the convenience of motion-activated lighting and the security of an audible alert, this is the kit you want.

The motion sensor may be mounted wherever you need it to be without any hardwiring, and it features a wide 180-degree sensitivity range. It detects motion up to 70 feet away, and the light timer and motion sensitivity are both adjustable. When motion is detected, it will turn on any light you have plugged in to the receiver and will also trigger an alert tone (the volume is adjustable, and you can deactivate the tone with a manual override). For use with incandescent lights of up to 300 watts. Note that the receiver requires two AA batteries (not included).--Josh Dettweiler

Remember the bottom line on the eye chart? 2007-03-25
Well, if you could read that then you'll have no trouble with this 40 page manual, the size of your wallet. Before you read any further, I couldnt make this unit work so I returned it for refund....read on.

You know, normally a manual will have a graphical picture of the product with arrows pointing to controls or special features you need to know about. This thing launches right into talk about "code settings" and there are only a few graphical assists buried in this microscopic document. After struggling with first finding the setup instructions, then struggling with trying to read them, I installed the receiver for a quick test and nothing happened. The lights light and the beeper beeps, but the motion detector didn't work. Next I changed batteries again and ran the same test....nothing. Then I got the manual and went through setup again and still...nothing.

Aside from being a lousy manual which is also very poorly written BTW cause its extremely confusing, the molded in gloss white control markers are difficult to read, and the main control is marked "ON-Time Minutes" and the manual doesn't even explain what the hell that means!

This manual is actually written for at least 3, maybe 4, different sensors/products that I can identify, and you are forced to search through this thing while you squint your eyes and try to identify the product you just bought as added security for your home. The marketing geniuses that wrote this manual are such morons they even have 10 pages with a big black tab that you can actually read that says "ENGLISH", but all the pages are in French. Consumer products are going to Hell, and this is a good example. I'm taking this back to the store and I don't think I'll elect to suffer through the frustration of dealing with Heath/Zenith again any time soon. 1 RMA

Great product 2008-07-24
We bought one to light the wood box room, because it's hard to switch the lights on/off with an arm load of wood. It was easy to install and worked perfectly. We bought 3 more to place around the compound. I like the fact that it uses lamps, because I can match the decor of the house, not to mention NO hard wiring! We have them set for one minute, the sensor knows if we stay in the room. It saves us money, because the kids no longer leave the lights on all over the house. I have recommended this product to my friends and family.

Works great! 2008-07-15
This works perfectly for me, no problem whatsoever. I feel much safer now. Love it!

be warned: "up to 100 feet" transmission distance REALLY MEANS you'll be lucky to get barely 10' unimpeded/uninterrupted line-of-sight bet. receiver & transmitter. It passes the legal test, because, after all, 10' is "up to 100'." Further, while manu advertises that you can set the time the plugged-in device remains on, neither the 1 min nor 5 min settings actually work, and only the "test" mode actually works as designed. The problem: it won't continually operate in test mode, so you have to select the 1 or 5 minute option, which makes it essentially useless. And yes, while there are frequency settings that may help, unless you're in a totally rural environment, with no EMF or similar wireless signals from other (or others') devices, changing the device's frequency settings will only aggravate you even more. Do yourself a BIG favor: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT !!!

easy to use 2007-09-23
simple to install and an effective alert system. If you don't like surprises this item is one to have

Only game in town 2007-09-14
After spending many hours searching for a motion detector that could be used with a lamp, I purchased this one. The need was very specific - the lamp needed to turn on from the motion of a small dog. This is the only motion sensor that looks down and out. The product does work as advertised and we feel we got our money's worth. It doesn't get more than three stars because:

- It has virtually no instructions for use. Frankly, it was pretty self-explanatory, but instructions, particularly troubleshooting would have been helpful. It took two or three days of playing around intermittently to get it properly set up.

- This product is controlled by radio frequency. Other things in my home (TV remote and garage door opener) triggered the light. Once turned on or off by these other devices, it wouldn't work again via motion detector, leaving the light permanently on or off. Changing the radio frequency solved the problem. There are four small numbered switches in both sides of the unit. By experimenting, we now have it set to two up and two down, so no more interference problems (again, instructions would have been nice).

- The motion sensor unit is designed to mount onto something and not just sit on a shelf or something; the bottom is curved. The mount is attached to the back of the unit and is not removable. The motion sensor itself is a bit horsey anyway - 3"x3"x3", but including the mounting bracket is 4 1/2 " deep. The unit is not designed to just sit on a shelf or something,

- Lastly, the part that plugs into the wall is so big that it covers up the lower plug and then some. If you have another big plug, you'll need a power strip because they both won't fit into a standard wall outlet.
