Not Bad, Not Great

I agree with most of the reviews here. For what it is, the bulb is not that bad. The technology still has a fair bit of room for improvement though. The bulb takes a good few minutes to get up to full brightness, and must be run a full brightness for a few minutes before the dimming becomes anywhere near functional. I replaced some Soft White incandenscents with these for my picture gallery in my house and I have found the light to be a bit on the harsh side for displaying works of art and such. I'll try a few more Dimmable CFL's over the coming months and hopefully settle on one that has some good colour and good dimming functionality.

I tried the GE, was not too pleased. So I just got a couple of the Sylvanias and I prefer the Sylvania.
("Osram" is only found in small type on the box -- seems to be a division of Sylvania).
The GE comes on rather dim (at full power). It takes over a minute to get to full brightness. But the Sylvania is nearly instant-on -- comes on fairly bright, gets to full strength in a couple of seconds.
As with most dimmable CFLs, apparently, neither gets really dim -- both go down to about 50%, I'd guess.
And I was either lucky or Sylvania has fixed the buzzing mentioned in an earlier review -- mine don't buzz at all. Neither did the GE. (I wonder if that might be caused by an old or faulty dimmer switch.)
Assuming it lasts as long as they claim, these seem great to me!

My quest for a good, quiet dimmable CF bulb continues - I've tried 4 or 5 different models now and I'm coming to the conclusion that CF is just not going to be quiet when dimmed.
Tried this bulb, the GE offering for can lights, and the 15 and 23 watt versions from ULAmerica. The GE was the quietest of the bunch but when dimmed it still buzzed - not terribly loud but noticible if the room is quiet. All the lights only dimmed to about the half way point and would flicker a bit when down that low.
The OSRAM was the loudest buzzer - and it's light was whiter than the equivalent wattage CF bulbs - I didn't care for it. I eneded up just using the 15 watt versions from ULA and leaving the dimmer at full so they don't buzz - the light is about right for me in that case.
Some day they'll make a CF bulb that properly dims and doesn't buzz - but that day is not today...
Did not work with my fixture 2007-10-01
I purchased this bulb online, as I could not find anything like it at the local stores. The price was alright and the bulb arrived in a timely fashion. However, sadly, it did not work in my dimmer fixture. It worked in other fixtures that did not have dimmer switches, but it's pretty much useless to me. The building I'm in is really old, so perhaps it only works with more modern dimmer switches...
Good dimmable CFL for recessed fixtures 2007-09-03
I've been looking for a dimmable CFL for recessed fixtures, and this seems to fill the bill perfectly. I'd say that the color doesn't seem quite as yellow as I would expect for a 2700K. It seems more nearly like 5000K (much more white). Other than that, it's a great bulb. Comes on immediately (unlike some of the GE and Phillips dimmables that I have purchased). It warms up quickly. It doesn't dim too much, but what I really wanted was something that could go into that fixture. We rarely actually dim those lights.
