Great sound for a great price
2008-04-22
Bought this for my apartment, and was impressed with the quality. Received has plenty of connections available, including two HDMI devices (although you have to run a separate audio cable such as fiber optic or coax in order to get sound from the home theater when using HDMI). Everything went together smoothly, and the auto-calibration feature with the included mic made the system sound great. Robust bass, clear highs. Definitely worth every penny and more. Only downside is that the cables included for the speakers tend to run a bit short, but they aren't pre-attached, so you can just buy your own speaker wire and be all set.
AWESOME

It works perfectly with my xbox 360, DVR, dvd player. Easy setup. Bass hits are awesome. I LOVE it.
Awesome sound at a low price!

I researched at length for a home theater system that I could plug all my components into. There are few complete systems that have many inputs and building with seperate pieces gets expensive! Then I came across this sweet system. I took the chance, this one was so cheap in comparison, and I am so glad I did! It works awesome and sounds incredible! I made the rear wireless with a RocketFish adapter and they work great together. I am so happy with my system.
Great product!

I purchased this home theater system about a month ago and I love it! You can't find this great of a product for the price anywhere else. I have my Directv hooked up via HDMI and optical digital audio and both my Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 hooked up via component and there are still more inputs/outputs than I know what to do with. Setup was a snap and the auto configuration was a great tool. The ability to name each input was something I didn't expect but it's really cool to see the exact names of what's on each input instead of Video 1, Video 2...etc. The room I have all this in is very long but narrow and the sound is solid and nothing to complain about. I would highly recommend this home theater system to anybody who wants a good quality system for a great price and doesn't want to break the bank on a more expensive system.
Decent HT for the money

Not a bad deal considering that it is SONY. I expected the sound to be a bit louder, there's no coax TV input. Otherwise it is a decent piece of equipment for $300 with shipment. If you need better - pay more.
Nice Home Theater System

Create a stunning home theater atmosphere with the HT-DDW990 component home theater system with Digital Cinema Sound(TM) technology. Through the power of Digital Signal Processing (DSP), this advanced system recreates the effects that were intended to be heard in movie theaters. And with 5 channels pumping 140 watts each and a booming 200W subwoofer, you will feel like you're part of the action. Effortlessly integrate your compatible HDMI capable television with the handy HDMI pass-through feature and enjoy the beauty of uncompressed 1080i video. Great sound

Easily set up; unobtrusive and great sound. Using the different sound modes makes things even better. Easily connects to TV for stereo on cable movies. Am/FM received adds value. An abundance of connectors will make this unit valuable for the center of a stereo or expansion to full HD. Good price; good sound;good product.

Great product for the price

This is a great surround sound system especially for the price. The set up was fairly easy, the speaker set up was a snap, the remote set up was a little difficult. The only real problem I had was the fact that they don't tell you that you need a seperate 90 dollar add on in order to use your Ipod. that would've been nice to know in advance. But other than that it's working out great.
This is a great system for the price and size.

This is a great system for the price and size. I didn't want speakers that were too bulky since my entertainment stand is in the corner of the room and don't have the space... the speakers are hardly noticable sitting on top of the stand. The system sounds great but I'm not an audiophile. I replaced the cheap speaker wire it came with 16 gage wire and it seemed to make a signficant difference. I have to turn the volume up to 55 (70 is the max) during a movie to fill the room, my room size is 18 x 18. Others have mentioned this too but this doesn't bother me since its plenty loud for watching movies. As far as listening to music, you won't rattle any windows but for normal listening it is fine. Keep in mind that this only has HDMI pass through so it won't play audio through an HDMI cable. If you want this feature you should step up to the HT-DDW995, however the audio quality won't be any better than using a digital audio cables since this system is not capable of taking full avantage of high def audio signal that available with HDMI. Since I have HDMI ports on my TV I decided to run video using HDMI to my TV and then run audio with digital optical cables directly to the receiver. You can get digital op cables for less than $5. I was dissapointed with the digital media port since its only compatible with Sony products, obviously Sony's way to get you to to buy more of their product. I think a USB port would have been the way to go. I bought a cable to hook my ipod to the RCA ports in front of the receiver rather than buy Sony's ipod dock that connects to the media port. All in all, a great little system.
