Editorial Review
Watch your favorite DVDs anytime you want with the DVP-FX810 portable DVD player. Boasting a swivel screen and rugged design, this device is perfect for people on the go.Sony's DVP-FX810 8" Widescreen LCD boasts a rugged design with sophisticated features. The swivel and flip screen offers multiple viewing angle options whether you are in a car, train or plane, or at the beach or the park. Watch a regular full-length movie with its up to 5 1/2 hour battery capacity or plug in the supplied car adapter for extended viewing. Control buttons are located on the screen bezel for ease of use. Skip or fast forward a scene is so easy to do either with the control buttons or with the dual-sensor remote control. The special dual-sensor for remote control is a very convenient feature to have especially for the ones that are seated farther away from the screen. It gives them an extra angle to control the DVP-FX810 remotely. This portable DVD player is lightweight and compact that you can carry it anywhere you go. Though it is designed for adults, its durability is certainly built for kids.

Lasted 7 months... about 30 hrs use. 2008-06-17
I bought this portable dvd player about 7 months ago. The total useage is around 30 hrs (two long road trips) Now, after loading a disc the player tells the user to "check disc". I inserted numerous discs, and a new disc. It still didn't work, so I called Sony Technical support. He was helpful, and we attempted to fix the machine, but in the end he stated I would need to take it in for repairs. Since it was past 90 days the warranty for the labor repair had been exceeded. It would probably cost more to ship and have repaired than buying another product. Very disappointed in Sony.

Great buy! 2008-06-08
This Sony player is great and has saved us on our road trips thus far! Screen is great, audio is fabulous! Definitely recommend this product.

BAD BAD BAD IDEA 2008-06-04
THE DVD player came to my house and DOES NOT play DVDs JEJEJEJEJE (¡Jesus Christ¡); plays CDs in few cases. I Live outside the united states and it very frustrating because i dont have product warranty. My best advice is DONT BUY IT.

Comparison between FX810 and FX820 2008-05-28
Over the Memorial Day weekend, I toured a few electronics shops near my home to test portable DVD players. I took my own headphones and favorite DVDs (both retail ones and ones burned by my DVD recorder) with me.

At first I liked FX810, meeting what I had expected from a portable DVD player under $200. FX810 played all kinds of discs I tested and has a good picture quality, a compact body, and long battery life. But once I tested FX820, I fell in love with the newer model. FX820 has a much better monitor and bigger sound from the speakers while keeping all good features of the old model.

In short, FX820 exceeded my expectation. The price difference between the two models is between 20 to 50 dollars. I was lucky enough to find a shop in Montana which sold FX820 for $149.95 INCLUDING shipping. Another concern about FX810 is its durability. I saw several returned units at a local Circuit City and one at display did not work at all. There is no way to predict the durability of the newer model, but I hope SONY has solved the problems of FX810 and made FX820 more durable.

If you are wondering which model should you buy, I would recommend FX820 over FX810.

Great player! 2008-05-27
We purchased 2 of these units for a plane trip for our 3 kids. THey have a very long battery to last the entire flight!! So far we love them. We also like the swivel screen!

So far so good 2008-07-18
I've only used the DVD player once, on a 3 hours road trip, and it worked nicely. I just hope that it keeps working that way for at least some time, since I felt there were a lot of bad reviews out there for all portable DVDs in general. At least it came fine out of the box ;-).

Great on the road, acceptable sound, image is clear 2008-07-09
We had this product for six weeks now and it works great. We only use it on the road though. The sound is not great, but acceptable. We can hear fine going 70 mph on the interstate. The image is clear also. Others have stated the remote is really big, but it is not. Remote is about the size of an iPhone. Battery is detachable which is neat.
I hooked it up to my stereo system once, but was only able to get sound out of the left speaker. The DVD Player acted as the right speaker.

This product is a good product on the road.

Not Reliable 2008-07-03
Pros: This product has a truly amazing battery life, and excellent built-to-last quality. Screen resolution is nice (screen cover is too glossy which produces glare easily).

Cons: Sound. It's ability to consistently play DVD's.

We bought this at Radio Shack for a long day of plane flight for our 3 year old daughter. We charged it the night before, opened it up and loaded a brand new DVD, pressed play... "Disc Error". I thought "Must just be this DVD", so I tried 4 more DVD's all without any major scratches or smudges (I checked carefully!). Same error each time. Finally (days after the plane trip) I managed to get 2 DVD's to play. I thought "Ok, it's going to work now". Then the next time I tried it, "Disc Error". No rhyme or reason. It's like the player decides for itself when it is ready to play a disc!

I took this back to Radio Shack, exchanged it for another one expecting the first to be a fluke. It wasn't! Same errors and problems.

I was expecting way more out of a Sony since all my other Sony products have been great but this one really didn't hit the mark. In fact it failed miserably. I would have suffered through less battery life, screen glare, or low sound happily. But it's a DVD "PLAYER", meant to "PLAY" DVD's not have them all say "ERROR"! This was very disappointing. Thankfully, I was refunded all of my purchase.

I am not the picky sort of person so what you see here is what you will get if you buy this unit.

Buyer beware!

Excellent Player 2008-06-25
After alot of research and reading reviews I purchased this player, which im glad I did. I bought this DVD player to keep my 4 children occupied during long car trips, baseball games and practices. The sound quality is fantastic, battery life is great. The player runs very quiet much different from my old player. The only down fall is the screen doesnt have a mat finish therefore sometimes it makes it hard to concentrate on the movie when you can see your reflection. I plan to inquire into a cling flim that will go over the existing screen to reduce the glare hopefully there is such a thing.
All in all this is an excellent Player and I would highly recommend it.

Battery Life is GREAT 2008-06-18
I bought two of these for the kids for a recent vacation. The battery lasted through 2 full movies. Great for a long flight or drive.
