Poor tech support
2008-07-27
The items looks pretty, and matches the Apple TV, and for the most part works as described. I have 4 HDMI inputs, (Blu-Ray Player, Sat. TV, regular DVD player, and the Apple TV. The only item that does not work with the switcher is the Apple TV device! It works fine when plugged directly into the TVs HDMI input, but nothing when plugged into this unit. Have tried switching cables, and switching positions. Everything works BUT the Apple TV (which was the point of the purchase really!)
Sad part is that when contacting their tech support people by email - the first email was ignored! The resend (marked as such very obviously) was replied to but with a stupid question which proved they had not read my email (perhaps an auto reply). Still have had no response at all from the reply to their reply! Three weeks now.
Buyers should be aware and beware of poor support.
Great product but ironically doesn't support latest Apple TV

I have this connected to my 50" Panasonic Plasma TV with my TiVo HD and Xbox 360 Elite working great through it. Also, my Harmony 880 universal remote is able to control it with relative ease. The power saving feature on this HDMI switcher is also pretty nice.
Ironically, the only negative about this HDMI switcher is that my Apple TV doesn't work going through it so I have to attach my Apple TV directly to my TV. Not exactly sure why Apple TV doesn't work but that's a bummer.
Overall it's a great product despite an obvious and ironic downside.
Perfect footprint for AppleTV
2008-07-04
I haven't seen it mentioned here, only implied, that this unit goes perfectly with AppleTV. It is the identical foot print, very similar appearance and generally is a nice fit. I agree that this could cause cooling problems with the AppleTV, so put this on the BOTTOM, UNDER the AppleTV. In all respects, the thing works great. If you are thinking about an AppleTV, do it. The thing is slick! This takes care of a single HDMI input on some (my) TVs.
Works Great after cable upgrade

Bought this product because it is supposed to work with Apple TV, which I received as a gift. I have a Samsung 42" DLP, DirecTv DVR HR20-100, the Apple TV and a PS3.
The switched arrived a day earlier than promised, Yeah!. I hooked it up and DirecTV worked great, but nothing with the Apple TV, swapped cables but still nothing. Apple TV only worked when connected directly to the TV. I decided to try another switch and went to my local Fry's and picked up an IOGear 4 port auto detecting switch. Hooked it up Apple TV worked...DVR didn't. Took it back and purchased two better quality HDMI cables and that solved it. Everything now works! Great Design, Great Price, just a little finicky on the cables.
Two duds in a row!

I just purchased this product - it arrived but would not power up. Amazon very quickly sent a replacement, but it had the same problem. Very disappointing since I have other Xtreme products that are fantastic. Two dead units in a row does not inspire confidence about Xtreme's quality control. Trying Oppo next....
Nice and easy

Too many HDMI devices and not enough ports on your HDTV to connect them? Most displays only offer one or two HDMI ports, which isn't enough to support all of your devices. This 4-port HDMI switcher is a simple solution that lets you connect up to four devices to a single HDMI port on your TV.Simply connect your devices - cable/satellite box, Apple TV, DVD player, gaming console, etc. - to the input ports on the switcher. Then, connect the switcher to your display using a single HDMI-HDMI cable. It's that easy. You can switch between devices using the included infrared remote, your own universal remote, or the button on the front of the unit. An LED on the front of the unit will indicate which source you have selected. The XtremeHD HDMI 4 to 1 switcher is built with the highest quality components so you get the best quality audio/video signals from all of your devices - up to 1080p resolution. Now that's simple.
Glitches with Tivo Series 3, User Interface Need Work
2008-05-25
I have a Playstation 3, Apple TV and Toshiba HD-DVD player hooked up to my Xtremehd switcher, which is connected to one of the HDMI ports on my receiver. All devices work fine with this setup. I had a TiVo series 3 hooked up as well, but I got audio glitches, so now the TiVo is connected to my receiver directly.
However, the interface is lacking. It takes the switcher a long time (>30 seconds) to sync the HDMI connection when I turn on the TV. While syncing, the unit gives no indication that it's syncing, or indeed that it's even on. Pressing the remote's buttons gives no feedback on the unit. Once the unit is on and synced, it works well, but until that point, it's an exercise in frustration.
Fantastic Product

If you are looking for a "Fire and Forget" HDMI switcher, look no further. I use this box to switch between my Directv HR20 DVR, my HD-DVD player (no comments from the blu-ray crowd, please), and my Intel Mac Mini HTPC. It's attractive, and does exactly what it is supposed to. Works perfectly with my Harmony 890 remote -- the codes are in Logitech's database, no learning required. I use a DVI--> HDMI cable to connect the Mini to the switcher. No handshake issues with any of my equipment, and the switch is fast. I rarely notice it anymore, a tribute to how well it works.
Just what I needed.

This unit is so easy to use. I have my HD cable box, Apple TV and Bose System all hooked up through this one unit. Excellent and it sits under the Apple TV as it is the exact same size. Great product. Very quick shipping as well.
Nice switch box but had some issues with it

I bought this switch to use with my home theater system and my ps3
PS3 works great however my home theater system has some hickups
From time to time picture on TV just disappear and then reappear in couple seconds. I don't what's causing it but when I connect home theater directly to tv everything works great.
PS: for those people who are frustrated about power button. The power button is actually there. All you have to do is press SOURCE button and that will select which channel you want to use. And if you hold SOURCE button for about 5 seconds the unit will power down.
