Editorial Review
The Tudors presents the rarely dramatized tumultuous early years of King Henry VIII s nearly 40 year omnipotent reign (1509-1547). In addition to his famous female consorts and 20+ year marriage to Catherine of Aragon to the infamous dalliance with Anne Boleyn the series delves in to Henry s most notable political relationship and the deconstruction of the Roman Catholic Church in England.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS UPC: 097368516045 Manufacturer No: 851604

Superb Acting 2008-05-14
This is one of the finest presentation of the Tudor regime in England I have seen. The actors are superb; the costuming is beautiful and accurate, and the story is so well developed it seems to be absolutely new. This is one series that everyone should buy and keep for numerous re-viewings!

Highly Entertaining! 2008-05-13
This is a great, entertaining show! it's no where near accurate but that doesn't really matter, it's loosely based on the life of Henry VIII and that's all I need. it's fun to watch and full of drama!

Dazzlingly beautiful, and a great invitation to study the period 2008-05-13
Yes, there are inaccuracies, as others have pointed out here. This is a dramatization and this is elegant popular entertainment. As an armchair historian, in love with the stories of Henry VIII, I find it absolutely gripping. The acting is for the most part marvelous, and the idea of doing these great personages as compellingly attractive people is a brilliant one. I think there is plenty enough here to draw a person into good books about Henry and the English Reformation. One thing I do like very much is that Anne Boleyn is being presented as the complex woman she obviously was; and Catherine of Aragon has been presented with immense dignity and respect. But the reason I've signed on here to recommend this series is that I really think it will encourage serious study on the part of many as to what really went on when Henry broke with the Catholic Church, and when popular entertainment invites us to study, to learn more, as well as giving us delight, well, that is worth something. The portrait of Thomas More is excellent, and the actor playing Anne Boleyn's father is quite remarkable. Finally, let me confess: there is something delicious about this series, something thrilling. I find myself charmed by it. Of course I wish the Catholic Church was presented with considerablly more understanding on the part of the writers. But in spite of that I continue to watch the second season, as enthralled as I was by the first. And I've ordered a whole slew of new books on Henry just because of this series, so I'm proof myself of what I'm suggesting here: this will encourage the serious study of history. --- The art direction and the costumes are gorgeous. The lighting is breathtaking. --- The sets are glorious. I hope Showtime gives us more of this top notch entertainment.

Great to have 2008-05-12
I am enjoying all over again the first season of The Tudors. I had missed some episodes and found it great to see it in its entirety and know I will look forward to year two. I really found the cast and story to be great as well as the video which was of very good quality. It also allows the viewer to let the story become an integral part of the viewing.

Quality product with one minor problem 2008-05-11
The set is of good quality for the good price I purchase it at, however I found in watching the videos that the case has the descriptions of what the DVD's will have and they are off set. DVD 1 has 3 episodes and the case description has for 4 episodes and so on and so forth. Other than it i would purchase season 2 of The Tudors!

R Rated Video 2008-05-10
This is a great series, but not rated. I almost showed it to my grandaughter! It's definitely R rated!!

Top-notch series! 2008-05-10
I was so impressed with The Tudors!! This series is well worth the watch and is hard to peal away from! Johnathan Rhys Meyers is not who I would pick for a physical match for Henry VIII but I can see why he got the part! He earned it! He is commanding,powerful,hot-headed and his masculinity is palpable!! With an excellant supporting cast such as Sam Neil and Jeremy Northam and beautiful, fantastic costumes, dialogue, music and cinematography this is a must see! A feast for the eyes as well as the mind. You will be glued to the set!! I can not wait for season 2 on dvd!!!

Awesome 2008-05-06
This is one of the best purchases I have ever made. Each episodes is 45 minutes longer than the ones on television so they are 1 1/2 hours long. It is a fabulous series

Stylish but historically inaccurate. 2008-05-03
This series is stylish, hip and sexy, but not for those who are looking for historical accuracy. From the somewhat amusing errors in time period props (ie using the plush regency style sprung coaches instead of the unwieldy tudor style vehicles) to completely abandoning historical reality (such as marrying Henry's sister to the King of Portugal rather than the King of France), the director simply abandons reality whenever it suits his fancy. However, there is some tour de force acting. The actresses playing Catherine of Aragon and Anne Bolyen are excellent. Similarly this series' Cardinal Wolsey sets a benchmark for the role that future actors will have problems measuring up to. Many of the other actors, however, appear to have wandered in from MTV, still wearing their street makeup in some cases. All in all, enjoyable, but could have been better researched.
