TERRIBLE swaddle blanket!!!!!
2008-10-10
I have a super wiggly baby boy with colic so swaddling him was at the top of the list. I tried these blankets and they are not big enough.
Maybe if he would of been first born they would of worked, but he's a big boy and they did NOT work. He wiggled his arm out in less than 5 seconds. NO GOOD.
So... I tried "Swaddle Me" blankets and they work! They are GREAT!!
When I swaddle him super tight, he is still in his blanket
after 11 hours of sleep, exactly how I initially wrapped him. But make sure you wrap them tight. They are wigglers!
So don't waste your time on this product, go with Swaddle Me.
OK in a pinch

These are reasonably priced swaddlers, and they worked well for my (now 2 year old)son until he was about 3 months old. But, he was one of those babies who was easy to swaddle. We bought these in pink for our 2 month old daughter, but have found that she's much more of a "kicker" and is always getting free of the wrap. She also hates to have her arms pinned to her sides so her arms are usually free. Also, the velcro only sticks to a limited area, so when she gets especially fussy there's not much we can do to tighten the wrap. I guess it's time to look for another product.
Love this product!

These swaddlers are great! As a first time mom I was so overwhelmed the last thing I needed was more frustration at bedtime. This swaddler was easy, fast and stayed swaddled. Definitely worth it to buy a few of them because we used them at naps and bedtime for almost 2 months...until he outgrew them. We used these along w/ Happiest Baby on the Block and our lives were made much easier!!!
Great idea

Unless you have a 3lb baby, it's hard to swaddle a wriggly newborn in the average receiving blanket as they're just too small. As an alternative to a larger, heavy blanket which might be overkill in anything but the coldest weather, these are soft, warm and fasten easily with two velcro tabs. I took one to the hospital with me when I delivered and the nurses loved it. However, they are a bit big for babies under about 8lbs, and the velcro tags don't attach very well to the surface of the blanket if you need to pull it tighter past the fastening patch. My 3 week old, who doesn't like being swaddled, can kick her way out of the pocket within a few seconds so they're not foolproof, but for a baby who does like being wrapped these would be a must-have.
Not small enough for my newborn

I purchased this item right after I brought my son home from the hospital. I wanted to swaddle him but I found that receiving blankets just weren't big enough and he would wiggle right out of them. However, I found that these didn't exactly "swaddle" him as they were more of a wrap. Swaddling is suppose to hold the baby rather snug to simulate the womb and is suppose to be calming, but these were actually too big to get that effect and he had too much wiggle room!!
