Exactly What You Would Expect
2008-04-05
This television is exactly what you would expect from Sony. The setup was easy, the design is great, the functions and remote well designed and the picture is wonderful. After a thorough review, Sony was my choice as it has been so many times before. I ordered the set from Amazon late Thursday evening and it was delivered to my home Wednesday morning. I am very happy with this purchase.
Amazon, Sony, Eagle Frt.

Amazon is the best online retailer that I have purchased from. This is the 2nd large screen TV that I have purchased form Amazon, and both times I received the TVs very quickly without any problems.
The Sony TV is excellent, You just can't beat Sony.
Eagle Frt. has always done an excellent job for me. I have also used them to ship large items I have sold on E-Bay.
Time for HDTV?

Real nice picture on HDTV stations. My gripe is not with the TV, it's about the cable provider. I have a Sony KDL-40V2500 40" Bravia V-Series 1080p LCD HDTV] and Comcast here in Florida with far too few stations in real HD. I should have waited since the extra charge per month is really not worth it.

Terrific TV, terrific seller

Great TV, and ElectronicExpress is a terrific seller, too: a perfect match. I also recommend highly the Logitech Harmony 550, an extremely advanced, "tricorder" remote control for this TV. This Logitech remote truly would be at home on the Starship Enterprise; it will easily control your Sony, DVD, sound system, and cable box, too. From a gamer's perspective

I had a 32 inch 4:3 HDTV made my Panasonic. It was a fine set. However, when I finally saved up the cash to buy a 360, I realized that it could only do 1080i, not 720p. This made any games I played in 'hi-def' stretched into a painfully thin bar in the middle of the screen. Tightening my belt and unleasing my wallet, I decided it was time to bite the bullet and upgrade.
I didn't intend to get a TV this large (I was looking at a 32 or maybe a 37 inch), but one look at the Sony changed my mind. Great specifications, cool matte finish.
WOW! I think that I had a grin on my face the entire day after setting this unit up in my media room. The picture is amazing. The colors were so bright and rich that I actually found myself clapping my hands in delight - when's the last time a piece of hardware made you do that?
Played through component cables on the xbox 360, the picture is.. phenomenal. Rich, clear, and text as sharp as on my PC monitor when set to 720p. NO ghosting or tearing visible, and believe me, I looked closely for such aberrations.
PS2 games, also via component, were slightly less wow-inducing, but still excellent. The stretch processor is quite good. You'll hardly notice you're viewing content originally intended for a 4:3 perspective.
PROS:
+ A veritable cornucopia of inputs - 2 HDMI, 2 component, PC, etc., etc. Plenty of grow room for future devices.
+ easy-to-use menu system - lots of things to adjust, and easy to find them.
+ remote is a good size and has well-labeled buttons.
+ fantastic color and sharpness
+ attractive TV - simple in its design, with no gaudy stickers/colors. The focus of a TV should be on the screen, not on a shiny black bezel or other stuff. Minimize everything but the screen and you have an ideal system.
+ not too heavy! One person can easily set this system up.
+ 40 inches = PERFECT size for many rooms! I imagine for many like me, with a pretty small media room (about 10' by 12') , a 37 seemed just a bit too small, and a 42 seemed too big.
CONS:
- blacks are still not as black as on a CRT. This is probably due to limitations of the technology.
- standard definition content is still a bit more jaggy than it was on my 32 inch CRT
- costs a bit more than other sets in this size range
All in all I'm happy as a clam with this TV. If you're on the fence about whether to save $200 or so with a 'generic', I'd recommend you tighten the ol' belt and splurge on one of these sets. I did, after much deliberation and consternation, and I'm glad that I made the decision to spend a bit more and get a high-quality 720p set instead of a mediocore 1080p set.

Awesome TV

I'm not going to write about all the technical stuff. That's been done. We love this TV. We're not high tech folks and could plug this in and watch. It does replace an older model tv so anything modern would look better but still it makes watching tv a better experience. It is very easy on the eyes too. Color is beautiful. We're very pleased. Perfect!

This is the best of breed for the 37-42" sized HDTVs. The service I received from Amazon's partner was excellent.
Beautiful picture and great sound

I don't know a great deal about televisions, other than this is our second SONY TV. The last one weighed about 70-75 lbs and still has a great picture, so my daughter has asked for it. I have never had any trouble with that old set, it is just getting to heavy for my husband's back when it comes to moving around!
The HD picture we get is vastly more life-like than our old televsion. We don't have any extra speakers and it sounds just fine... I just love it. It's our first flat-screen television and we are tickled with the quality and we got a really great price $[...] which included free shipping and no tax. I look for bargains and most of the time I find it at [...].
Watching the Movies with My Dad
2008-04-13
For the longest time I had no TV. My twin Tiffany and I were raised all over the world by our old dad, a rock and roll roadie, songwriter, wine drinker and lover off all things wonderful. He gave us Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Madrid, introduced us to Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger when we were only little girls. He was the best, he was the greatest and he loathed TV.
He used to say there is no difference between watching the news, football, a sitcom or masterpiece theater -- you're sitting on your couch watching people in a box, who make a whole bleeping lot more money than you. Only he didn't say bleeping. That was his way of saying, go out and live your life, don't waste away your hours watching others.
However, my old dad loved the movies. No matter where we were, come the weekend, he took us to whatever silver screen was closest. I can't tell you how many American movies I've seen dubbed into French and Spanish. My old dad loved a good movie.
And so do I. All my life I've lived without a TV, until now. At Costco I saw this Sony Bravia 40 inch TV and I really, really wanted it. But I have a small car and they don't deliver. But Amazon does, so I ordered this baby, then went to Hollywood Video and got a subscription to their Video plan. Twenty-five dollars a month and you can rent all the movies you want. Such a deal.
However, I don't have cable, don't have Dish Network, don't even have an antenna on my roof. No TV for me. Just movies. So Dad, if you're reading this from wherever you are, don't roll over in your grave, because when I turn out the lights at night and turn on this beautiful widescreen movie shower, it's you I'm sitting with.
