Very Cool appliance
2008-06-07
Although my husband doubts that it actually does what is says it does (because he can't SEE the germs that are killed) it's been nice to clean our produce this way. I just put everything in the bowl, clean it all, and set it out to dry. Fruits are more appealing to everyone when the cleaning is already taken care of, and I don't have to worry about e-coli on my tomatoes! I only wish it were more aesthetically pleasing, b/c I like to keep it out on the counter, and it's horrible for our kitchen decor!
How safe are green cleaning products????

I've been lotusing my house and food for well over two years now and am amazed at how attached I am to it. We all have countless appliances around the house and they all seem to end up on a shelf somewhere after a while but if my lotus were to stop working I think my life would stop...what would I use to clean and how would I eat my produce if I can't lotus it?!?! Even my plants crave lotus water!! I have gradually worked myself off of every single cleaner in my home and am proud to say that all I need is my lotus. This is the best, one product to do everything. How did we ever end up in a world where we were buying a special cleaner for every single application around the house? All I can say is that those other companies have great marketing people, especially in light of the fact that they have found an ingenious way to mislead us of what they are really made of. Green cleaners promise that they contain natural (instead of synthetic) agents, break down quickly in the environment, or pose less of a toxic threat to humans and ecosystems. But just because the ingredients in green cleaners are plant-based or natural doesn't necessarily mean they're safe. The market for green cleaners is largely unregulated -- which means consumers still must be wary of what's in the bottle. Even cleaning products labeled "natural" may contain some fraction of synthetic chemicals. Or they may contain natural ingredients consumers would rather avoid, such as petroleum distillates, some of which can cause cancer. And just because a cleaning product is biodegradable and made from plant-based sources doesn't mean that it is without potential adverse effects on health. Plant-based ingredients included in some green cleaners include limonene (a citrus-based oil), pine oil, and the foaming agent coconut diethanolamide -- all of which can cause allergic dermatitis. And a recent study of natural and nontoxic consumer products found the suspected cancer-causing chemical 1,4-dioxane in roughly half of 100 tested products. Notice too that all these green cleaners we are talking about are just that, cleaners. Read the manufacturers websites and they all have a goal of passing the EPA protocol so that they can call themselves a sanitizer, but they can't with their current formulations. The lotus passes these test, just read the results on the company website and they are able to sanitize your produce AND surfaces in your home, all while only using water and oxygen, how much greener can you get!!! No wonder why this product was named one of Time Magazines Best Inventions and that the founder was named Innovator of the Year by the Government of Ontario!! Kudos to you and the whole lotus team at Tersano!!!

Since most of us cannot see if the Lotus Sanitizer really eliminates bacteria or bad chemicals, we can see how it works on stains and dirt.
I use mine frequently on my BBQ Grill. It loosens the burnt-on, charred grease and meat and leaves the grill shiny and clean after an easy scrubbing and wipe-down. This has never worked with plain water and only does work with lots of detergent and wire brushes. But the Lotus system elimnates all of that. The fact that the greasy, burned residue disappears makes me more comfortable with putting more food on the grill.
The second in-home demo is that we use it often to remove red wine or tomato sauce stains spilled on white tablecloths or clothing. It works like nothing else. With a little spraying and rubbing, the red wine or tomato sauce stain disappears and after drying there is not a trace.
I even used mine to remove some disgusting bird droppings on my car. Nothing else seemed to work on removing hardened droppings unitl I sprayed it with the Lotus By Tersano.
Without a microscope I cannot prove that the chemicals and bacteria are gone, but I sprayed and the visual evidence disappeared.
The greenest of green products!

Finally a solution to keep our food, our homes and us healthy! I've been lotusing everything for 3 months now. I used to just dangle my fruit under the tap and think that it was clean from pesticides and germs. But it wasn't. Now with lotus I can trust that my food is safe, no e-coli or salmonella or pesticides. The system works great, it even tells me when there are too many contaminants on my food, I just dump the water out and start again. And I think it even makes my fruit taste fresher, sweeter. And get this, I came home one day to see my 11 month old daughter licking the patio door to soothe her teething gums! You can bet I was relieved that I didn't use a chemical glass cleaner; I use just lotus water to sanitize my home. It's just as clean as when I used other products, but I don't subject my kids and myself to those fumes anymore. I recommend one to everyone; the world will be a much cleaner, safer place.
One of the new IMPROVE YOUR OWN LIFE technologies...

With all the pesticides and herbicides most farmers use to increase the volume of veg/fruit they produce; and with the recent multiple scares concerning bacteria and leafy greens --
well, it makes eating your daily veggies into a dangerous proposition. (And being a vegetarian into a real challenge!)
Enter the lotus. --> That extra oxygen molecule creates an environment where your produce is freed of organic and inorganic contaminants in no time at all. The unit itself is plastic -- so don't go bouncing it around the kitchen floor. It's an inexpensive home version of some really serious technology -- and fairly new technology. I suspect the 3rd or 4th release will be as sturdy as the best air purifiers.
But this is a buy-in to what is now possible -- to reliably get rid of all those nasty food-borne bacteria that can ruin a good meal. I even put my seafood through a good cleaning.
And strawberries do take longer to clean in the Lotus -- don't know why -- but the results are amazing. Those dull little berries that take days to ship from strawberry country to desert West Texas actually change color and are the most beautiful orange red that practically glows in the dark to a deep, vibrant crimson. This is not the color I grew up with -- it's just too hot here to grow them. But I now have a clue what folks in the Northeast and all over northern European climates have been talking about and painting all these years. They're beautiful.
And best of all, I don't have to worry about the fruits and veggies I'm eating. No matter how much poison the idiot non-organic farmers pour over my potential breakfast, I now have a defense. -- One that I control.
Also, take advantage of the spray bottle that comes with the Lotus system -- the increased oxygen lasts for 20 minutes, which so far has been about enough time for me to do a quick once-over of every countertop, sink, doornob, small appliance, and fridge -- as well as a quick once-over of the coffee maker drip parts. I pour what's left through the garbage disposer and then leave the bottle to air dry.
We've also now begun considering buying a bathtub with Whirlpool-like water jets. I had long ago written off that kind of therapeutic massage (excellent for arthritis) because of the germs and mold which tend to grow inside the internal workings of water and air jet systems. The same technology that makes the Lotus clean our food, toothbrushes, kitchen sponges, counters, doornobs, and utensils, also now cleans the inner-workings of massaging bathtubs, hot tubs and foot baths. No more shared bacteria, or newly formed mold to soak in! It's a great technology....
Love it!

This is an amazing device.
I thought this was a great idea when I saw it, but I was initially skeptical. Let's face, it, you can't really see it working. So I did a few test-runs before I posted this review.
I had a ton of produce in the fridge on the day I got it- kiwi, apricots, grapes, cauliflower, jicama, kumquats, you name it. I rinsed it all and ran everything through the sanitizer, and sure enough, it's a week and a half later, and what's left still looks great. Definitely increases shelf life.
I did do a specific test- I had some cherries were on the verge of getting mooshy, so I decided to run them through the Lotus Sanitizer and put them back in the fridge. We went out of town, and they've been sitting untouched in a bowl in the fridge this whole time. While they look a little wrinkly, they're not fuzzy or slimy, which is definitely what I would expect by this point.
Heavily contaminated or fuzzy items do require extra processing. I had to run grapes, berries, and kiwi though twice. I just tipped the water out through the top of the strainer and refilled- no biggie. We have really hard water here, which I thought might be a problem, but everything went incredibly smoothly.
I do wish that the spray bottle had a bit of a finer spray, but that's quibbling. The oxygenated water made quick work of the mildew in my shower. My husband actually thought that I had used bleach.
Yes, it's initially expensive, but when I think about how much money we've spent on "green" cleaners and spoiled produce, it seems like a no-brainer. I like the fact that we're not adding packaging or chemicals to landfills or groundwater. Plus- what is your peace of mind worth? I rinsed grapes thoroughly in the sink, would have sworn they were clean, and still had to run them through the system twice before they were OK. Normally, that first rinse in the sink would have been all they got. Heaven knows what was on them to begin with...ew.
This system is out on my counter along with my toaster and coffeemaker- it's invaluable. The mopping system and the water purifier are next on my list, and I'm thinking of getting a system for each member of my family for Christmas. Impressive job, Tersano!
I LOVE this product and the company who makes it!!!

I have had my Lotus Sanitizing System for a little less than a week now and I love it!!!
I am a cancer patient, recently diagnosed, and also a vegan who eats a great deal of fresh vegetables and fruit. I juice approximately 50 lbs. of carrots per week just for starters. I will be starting chemotherapy this week and the doctors have all emphatically told me that I cannot eat fresh fruits and vegetables unless they can be peeled, but generally not to eat them at all, because of potential bacteria that can lead to infection in chemo patients who have lower immune system functioning. That was shocking to me because those are the foods that we are told are the healthiest for us. I looked around on the web to find out how to wash my produce and quite readily came across the Lotus Sanitizer. Why the physicians don't know about this I'll never know!
I am also a single parent who works the equivalent of 2 full-time jobs, doing low-paid work (teaching and caring for children) so the medical expenses that I currently have, even with self-purchased insurance, are insurmountable. The Tersano Company most graciously donated their Lotus Santizer to me, and had it shipped overnight so that I could have it before I started the chemo treatments. They have been the kindest, most helpful folks that I could ever imagine and I am deeply grateful to them!!!
I have been using the Sanitizer daily since it arrived and it works beautifully! Although I buy organic produce, I have been peeling carrots before I juice them, and when I scrubbed the first batch to put in the sanitizer, I had to run it through twice, because I got the F1 code that says all of the bacteria is not gone (thank goodness for that feature!). However, I bought a stiffer brush to wash the carrots and since then I have only had to run them through the sanitizer once. I have sanitized about 7 very large bunches of spinch and 3 large heads of leaf lettuce and they came out great! Everything I have put through has done very well, with the exception of organic strawberries, and I read somewhere that the little seeds might be a problem, plus berries tend to be the most contaminated. I already can see that I will save a lot of money on produce, because I won't have to peel and throw away all of those peelings from 50 lbs. of carrots per week, plus all of the lettuce and spinach, etc. that goes bad in just a couple of days after I buy it, won't be the case since the Lotus helps produce last longer.
I've also been using the spray bottle attachment to clean my counters and wipe down the bathroom every day. I cannot say enough good things about this system. I wish I had known about it long before, because I could have used much less bleach and ammonia for cleaning purposes. I don't have the mop, but I am going to use the sanitized water today to clean my kitchen floor using the microfiber cloth that came with the system.
This is an awesome product, I am so glad I discovered it and I am so very grateful to this company for their kindness and helpfulness. I am recommending this to everyone I know!!! I am not affiliated with this company in any way, I had never even heard of them until I did a web search trying to find out how to effectively wash produce.
Great invention!

We love this thing and use it almost every day. We feel good about the fact that this removes all the pesticides and kills all the bacteria on our produce. We also love using the spray sanitizer in place of chemical cleaners and sanitizers which are not safe for people or the environment. There is a nice clean and fresh smell left behind after cleaning with it which is better than anything made from chemicals. We are definitly going to purchase the mopping system as well as the water purifying system after using this wonderful product. The only down side for us is the fact that we eat a LOT of produce and it takes many 'loads' to clean it all. Also, the bowl is not large enough for some things unless they are cut up which is not recommended in the instructions.

The product works well. It is critical that one used the right level of water, too little doesn't fly. Also, as indicated in some of the other reviews, strawberries (berries in general) and grapes often need more than one cycle. This doesn't seem to be a product issue but an issue with pesticides and the surface volume of the fruit. Organic grapes did not have the issue.

A wonderful and timely product that removes toxins and harmful bacteria on produce we buy at the grocery store (such as tomatoes). Also cleaned the windows in my home using the spray bottle and cloth...WOW...this is the quickest way to clean all those large windows without it leaving streaks, my family is really impressed.
