Slow and "Clunky"
2007-07-31
I'm not an accountant, but I am a businessman. I have used One Write Plus for 13 years. Since OWP is no longer on the market, and the fact that I'm switching accountants, I bought the Peachtree Pro 2008. I'm not at all impressed. On the click of my mouse my OWP was up, running and ready to use in 3 seconds. It takes Peachtree 10 seconds or more to load. I'm using a new Dell with a 2 duo core 2.4 GgHZ intel processor and 2 Gg of RAM, so it's not my computer. Also the tax updates are extremely expensive ($249 a year) What's up with that when you can change them yourself for free? Before buying this mess, check with your accountant for other software, there's got to be something better than this out there.
Not for Vista!

This product doesn't work well with Windows Vista (or should I say Vista doesn't work well with most programs!) Bought Peachtree to compare with QuickBooks Pro for the Vista platform and I'm sorry to say Peachtree didn't work! First, it took FOREVER for the company to open (I timed it at 1:25 hour), and forget about converting from QuickBook to Peachtree. Most of the crucial data were not transfered, only the ending bank balances are available and some numbers aren't correct. Past payroll info also not available, and I got this hoping I can get away from the $$$ grabbing QuickBooks from their ever rising payroll fee! Get this program only: 1) if you have time to trouble shoot the loading time with tech support; 2) if you're starting fresh with new company set up or willing to re-enter all the financial info; and 3) if not installing and running it on Vista platform until they fix all the problems. Now I have no choice but to go back to QuickBooks and be gouged until other options become available.
Absolutely worst accounting software out there:-(

I have been using Peachtree for 15 years but with much difficulty. Their customer service is just as bad. I upgraded to the newest version of "Pro" because my old version from 1997 stopped working for no apparent reason. Well the new version is no better, I followed Sage's ridiculous instructions of getting Peachtree to work with your firewall and still nothing. I am sorry, that is not entirely true, it loaded twice, ran for a couple days and then NOTHING !!! And now, really nothing, totally dead. You only get "free" support one time and only for the first 30 days after install and that is worst than pulling teeth. Don't waste your money and ultimately time on this software.
This program is horrible!

I purchased this program about 2 months ago. We installed it on our system and started using it. Not the most user friendly program but after a few weeks we started to figure things out for our business. Then our computer crashed and after backing everything up repeatedly.... it was all gone. Then it wouldn't let me reinstall the program because serial number had already been installed. I called the help desk and they wouldn't help me because it was a week past free help expiration 30 day date. After another week we were able to reinstall the program but I had to start from scratch -- lost all the data... but now the program won't "restart" the way it did when it began. It won't even let me choose the "type" of company we own so that it will pregenerate the deductions we need to use... like: gas. What a complete waste of $150 and now we have to go buy another program.... I don't know what I hate more the program or the lack of customer support. Save your money!
It is the best out there

Every Product has its own quirks. But Peachtree is the best of its kind out there in the market. There might be some cosmetic shortcomings, but for one who is buying it really to use its core functionality, a few minor one time adjustments is a no effort thing.
Peachtree is the software that sells the most, even at this price. People do not buy it just for the heck of it. It's the core that matters, not the face.
Peachtree, Where is the competition?

Peachtree 2008 has 2 major problems. First is that it will not run at some native resolutions under Windows Vista. Our LCD monitors run at 1600x1200 and a few run at 1280 x 1024. Peachtree will not display the fonts properly and cuts off text on almost every menu. Support claims you must "lower" the resolution on all monitors to 1024x768 or less. Peachtree wants customers to use software compatible to technology from 10 years ago. The second problem is that the 2008 so called "upgrade," runs much slower than earlier versions including 2007. They advertize it runs "faster," but it does not. We installed it on 4 machines doing nothing more than "upgrading," from 2007 to 2008 and every machine ran the software much slower after the "upgrade."
Please, someone out there, come up with an alternative to Peachtree. Every year they come out with an "upgrade," which basically adds meaningless features they should have included many years ago. If you do not buy the upgrade, then support claims your ""old" version is not compatible and must be upgraded.
