MVI - wonderful idea
2008-07-01
I didn't knew the MVI technology till i bought the Paramore's Riot. The group is fabulous and full of energy that without the MVI was not possible to understand entirely.
Congratulations to Paramore for this special edition and to the people that made that possible.

If you are a Paramore fanatic, you need to get this.
The extra songs are great and pretty good quality, "For a Pessimist Im Pretty Optimistic" lacks bass and guitar but its still okay. I'm a little disappointed they didn't throw "Decoy" on here because its my favorite song by them and wish I could find it on an authentic Riot CD but apparently its like the "Forbidden Track" and impossible to find anyway.
The MVI is great and so much fun to mix around the songs "Misery Business" and "crushcrushcrush", it will make you want to do it for all the other songs really bad! Only complaint about this is once you have your own mix, you can't save it and throw it on a cd. At least not easily, whatsoever. That kind of let me down because thats the main reason I bought the cd.
But theres tons of extra footage and behind the scenes, it sounds great, and overall is imperative for any Paramore fan.
The way special editions should be

For those who haven't purchased Riot! yet - this is definitely the version to get. Often times, re-releases of albums can just simply be a way to for the label to milk money out of their bands while they're hot.
However, wonderful acoustic takes on "Misery Business" and "Pressure", and a good deal of live material on both the CD and DVD showcase a strong live band with fun and incredibly catchy pop-punk songs, making it one of the better "special editions" I've picked up.
The album itself showcases a fun, youthful, energetic band with a hint of optimism that's a welcome change from most other bands in the same vein. Songs like "When It Rains" and "Hallelujah" show a thoughtful young band with tight hooks, while the singles like "Misery Business" and "That's What You Get" are perfect for a light-hearted summer vibe (definite Warped Tour material).
I give this a four due to the short length of the DVD, but with 5 bonus tracks that could even stand alone on an EP, even more bonus tracks on the DVD and 3 music videos, it's a great buy for those who like to get a bit more than just the album.
Those who already own the album, this isn't for you unless you're a die-hard Paramore fan. But those who don't own it, get this version. You won't be disappointed.
Speaking of old geezers...

I love Paramore too! I'm a 51 year old ex-rocker from Chattanooga (just down the road from Franklin).
The songs are great. I really dig the drummer and drum mix. It's nice to see young musicians playing their own instruments and rockin' out.
Keep it up Paramore...
Very Nice Cd.

Paramore has done a good job on this album, most of the time when I buy a CD it's just two or three songs that end up being good but with this CD I liked all the songs(minus maybe 2 of them).
If your into kind of into punk rock then then you will probably be happy with this purchase.

Us old geezers like Paramore too!

Paramore's known for attracting a pretty young crowd, and that's understandable given how young the band itself is. But I'm a 35 year old guy who's gotten just as hooked on them as any of their teen audience. This is just some great rock music, with great hooks in almost every song and some amazing musicianship all around. Hopefully they'll continue to mature and continue to broaden their fan base as they progress.
The MVI DVD was my first Paramore purchase, and it's a great buy. I have to give special mention to the fact that there are actual mp3's on this disc for you to download to your PC - no DRM involved. That's gotta be something pretty new for Warner Music (the band is signed to Fueled by Ramen, but Warner apparently handles the distribution), and I hope that they continue doing it and that more labels follow suit. There are a ton of other great extras on the DVD, including live and promotional videos (the two things I cared about most) as well as other stuff I was less interested in like wallpapers, AIM icons, and screensavers. It also includes the lyrics to all of the songs on the album, which is a good thing in this case - the printed liner notes are written in a style that's pretty hard to read.
Just to be clear about what this comes with, since I think the Amazon page is a little confusing, this package comes with both a DVD and a regular audio CD that includes the full album plus bonus tracks. (Amazon shows "disc 2" above as only including the bonus tracks, which is not the case. It's the full album.) In other words, *both discs* have the full album - the only difference is the format. And of course the DVD has all the extras.
I was worried initially that there was going to be some sort of surreptitious installation of various tracking programs installed when I put this DVD into my computer - you know, like the major labels usually do these days. I'm still not 100% convinced that isn't the case, but I will say that their terms of use and privacy policies seem adamant that there is nothing of the sort, and it seems that the entire DVD interface is just a Macromedia Flash file - it's like viewing a Flash web site. You can also just watch it as a standard DVD if you like. The way their terms of use is worded makes it sound like they know about all the stuff that went on with the Sony rootkit fiasco and they don't want anyone to think that's going to happen with this DVD. I certainly hope that's the case, as I've now watched it on my PC probably half a dozen times already.
There's really no reason to buy the standard CD over the MVI DVD given all it comes with. You're really just getting a lot more with this package for only a couple bucks extra. It's totally worth it.
