Superb Sound for the price!
2008-07-08
This is my first HTiB and thoroughly enjoy it's sound for the past year. I am a Sound guy (DJ) and you can't beat the quality of the speakers for the price you pay. The larger subwoffer, compaired to other HTiB, give you more range for those low undertones and bass. Good buy!
well worth the price

To be honest, this is my first surround system so take my review for what its worth! I am not a sound aficionado either but I liked the effects immediately. The first movie I tried was the latest Harry Potter - the movie was alright but the sound quality was great! I have a 720P/1080i TV and, for me, the picture quality was good enough. Perhaps, it wouldn't be as good for a 1080p TV ...
As mentioned earlier, the sub-woofers pack a punch but it doesn't overdo it. I switched the rear speakers so I could put the tower speakers in the back which was more effective for me. I used the Optical Audio in as the HDMI in pass-through mode didn't work. Not a fault of Samsungs - my cable company has got to allow it and as noted on the forums, it can get pretty hard to get the cable reps to help.
Overall, a worthy buy

I really was impressed with the sound and quality of this system. when I ordered this I wasn't expecting a lot I was just wanting surround sound speakers and a DVD/radio unit for a exciting LCD TV. This thing performers as well or close to my living room sound system that I spent 2,500$. I know next time I wont be buying a item for its Brand name and price tag.
This thing is cheaply made with cheap plastics and it isn't what you would want to be bragging about as your bad system (looks wise) but if you can hide the cheaply made unit (which has worked with no issues now for 6 months) the sound that comes from it is shocking for the price you pay. The speakers are also made of cheap light plastic but the sounds from them are amazing. The 5 disc DVD player works great so far. the Ipod Adaptor works well (its just a cord the plugs into the front of the receiver and into the Ipod) The Subwoofer gives out great bass for its size I have it turned down as it shakes the walls upstairs.
I hope this helped some of you
Great Sound

I purchased this home theatre in a box for the receiver only. I run a full 5.1 set of JBL professional speakers and needed a receiver capable of giving them the power they need. The wattage output of the receiver sounds great and has plenty of options to customize the sound field for your specific room. I would have given it a 5 star rating, but the limited number of inputs caused me to give a 4. Overall, if you are looking for great sound for not a lot of money, this is the product to get. I have heard the sound out of the speakers that come with this system and they do sound good.
It's okay, but nothing special.

I recently purchased this system when it's price was sub $300 and I'm glad I didn't pay any more for it.
The system kicks out a MAJOR PUNCH in the sound department, with deep bass that will rumble the room thanks to it's HUGE subwoofer. It's as big as a PC tower case and blasts!
Sadly, you have to have it blast if you want to hear anything. There are few controls for the sound levels and trying to listen as low volumes was worse audio quality than listening to the TV with it's built in speakers.
The system is either too quiet to hear anything but voices, or too loud to hear anything other than boom.
Also, when in stereo mode, the back speakers shut off. There is one option that will do stereo with them on (Matrix Mode) but it tries to separate sounds and ends up with the speakers just making some noises sometimes and is a bit disconcerting.
The upconverting DVD player looks pretty poor on a high def television. There also is no difference with upscale from 480p to 1080i, it's just as blocky. If you've not seen a better upscaler (as found in the PS3 for example) then it might look okay, albeit blocky, but if you have seen a better one you won't be able to watch DVD's on your HDTV with this without feeling as if you're missing something.
Lastly... the fan. After a while a fan inside the receiver will kick in. This thing is LOUD. That shouldn't happen on a sound system - having something that makes listening to things worse.
Overall, I'm very dissapointed in this product and suggest you look elsewhere for a home theater system. I'm considering returning this item and wished I'd read a review like this first, so I'd know to stay away.
Not bad for the price

Not working from Day One

I brought this product for Christmas and it keeps shutting down after playing for approximately 1 hour. I tried contacting Samsung but to no avail. I got this system on the Dec 22 2008, and to date I have not been able to contact Samsung. It is totally frustrating and am very sorry I purchased this item.
Good for the money if not using HDMI Input
2007-12-11
I purchased this product a few weeks ago at a retail store for three reasons: (1) it had an HDMI input for my HD Tivo, (2) it was XM ready and (3) it had an iPod cable hookup. Unfortunately, the HDMI input worked for about a week and then I started having problems with my Tivo working through the input. It worked fine if I hooked it directly to the TV. I updated the Samsung firmware, but that did not help. I am likely going to return the home theater system and try something else. Otherwise, the upconvert DVD player worked well, the sound for movies, XM radio, and CDs was solid, but there was not much in the way of changing the audio settings and controlling the subwoofer. For some reason, there is also not AM available. For $300, I guess I should not expect much.
Awesome!

I got this HTS together with the SW-3000 wireless module for the rear speakers and was a perfect fit for my needs.
I got it installed in about an hour and delivers an awesome sound. I used two HDMI cables between my Samsung 46" LCD and the satellite receiver. I have a PS2 connected to it using the Aux inputs, too. I didn't experience ANY technical problem playing all types of DVDs and CDs (and hope I won't).
I'm sure there are way better (and expensiver!) systems in the market but, again, this was a perfect fit for me... I couldn't ask for more.
I saw Transformers and Spider Man III a few days ago and Dolby 5.1 makes you jump from the couch!!! Put an old Pavarotti DVD (surround mode) the other day and the power and sound quality just made me cry...
I highly recommend the wireless system for the rear speakers; for an extra 100 bucks you will avoid the hassle of cabling. My family room connects with the kitchen so I put the rear speakers over the upper cabinets... and it was a perfect lay out (measures) to get the best sound.
I also recommend you make some research on sound systems (dolby, dolby 5.1, 7.1, etc..., get your room measures, and check for speakers lay out recommendations before you buy anything. It's all in the web.
Summary: Awesome out-the-box Home Theather System!!! I couldn't be happier!!!
Excellent when works, breaks easily!

I have been happily using this home theatre for 2 weeks. After each movie, I would think "totally worth it!", with a big grin on my face. The sound is excellent. But tonight, I inserted a VCD and the system did not like it. When I hit the "eject" button to remove the CD, the tray came out withot the CD on it! It is not closing anymore. The tray is kind of loose now. I will return the system tomorrow. Might buy a new one again. It is still worth it.
