I Am, her soulful debut album, is an artistic exploration that fuses 24-year old Chrisette Michele's diverse musical interests into a wonderland. "I realize that I'm new to the music world, but I've been preparing for this moment for long time," says the Long Island native. Even before signing a recording contract, Michele had performed on concert bills with more established artists like Kem, India.Arie, Angie Stone, and Lionel Richie. "India saw me singing at the Village Underground in New York City. She came backstage that first night and graciously offered me a gig as her opening act," says Michele. Working hard in the studio writing songs and recording demos, Michele finished an album's worth of material before even trying to get signed. "I've been creating songs since I was 12, so I knew I needed the right musical blend in order to stand out from the many other performers trying to get a deal." Though already a fan of gospel and classical, it wasn't until Michele was 17 that she also developed a passion for jazz. "When I was still in high school a teacher introduced me to jazz singer Astrud Gilberto, and afterwards my life was all about jazz," she remembers. With the release of I Am, Chrisette Michele will soon be sharing those musical dreams with the rest of the world.

All I can say about this one is that it's a MUST have. Her voice is so beautiful...it's an instrument of amazement and she wields and commands it well to craft out something truly moving and lovely.

A must have

I initially heard this artist on Jay-Z's "Lost One" track. I thought he sampled an older artist. I did a little search and came across a video of Chrisette in a live performance. WOW! I purchased the CD instantly. This is a very nice CD, one of the few that I classify as each song being great. I like the fact that this young lady realizes that she is truly talented so she does not have to distract listeners by showing off her physical female attributes to get and maintain attention. Her voice and writing skills are enough to set her apart from other artist. I don't think she will have the popularity she deserves because she is elegant and unfortunately, classy is associated with being older. I think young listeners will miss out on her talents. I'm totally satisfied and have recommended the CD to many of my friends.

I can certainly say that this is a solid debut album. The Vocals on all the tracks are spectacular and the production though lagging sometimes is generally impressive. Although all the tracks are worth listening to, Work It Out and Best Of Me should be given particular attention because these track accentuate the singers diverse abilities. If you don't have this CD think again about why you are reading this preview.

This CD is WONDERFUL! I have listened to it for two months straight. Its addictive. This woman can sing and her lyrics are impeccable. Im tired of listening to the CD but cant seem to take it out of the player. Every time I attempt I feel as though something's missing from the day. I can't wait till her next CD comes out. Buy it. If you KNOW music then you will know this woman has potential to raise the bar. Vocally the Ashanti's and Beyonce's of the have NOTHING on this chic. This instantly became one of the best debut CD's IMO in a LOOOONNNGGG time. Treat yourself dont cheat yourself. Buy this CD!

Pure Joy

This is one of the most joyful cds I have heard in a long time. Even when she is singing sad songs she can't help inserting joy into her songs. Another album that is not about the bump and grind. More young women should sing like this. This album has some very diverse elements in it and she has a lovely way of singing each song just right.

I had to put this album in my Top 10. This is the new "it" girl. The whole album is beautiful. I have been lstening to it for a month straight now. She is boumd to be successful, for those who don't know, yet, your loss!

Chrisette Michele is...a revelation.
Her voice is NAHSTY - the power, the texture, the styling, the phrasing...
AND she is versatile; she can be oh so graceful on one cut, then swagger on the next, and DELIVER on both.
AND she can tickle the ivories and compose.
Listening to radio these days has a way of discouraging the discriminating music/ soul lover. But then a Erykah Badu/Jill Scott/Bilal/Ledisi/(a few others), and now, Chrisette Michele comes along to help us keep the faith...

it's good album, it's easy to listen to.It was recommended to me by my daughter who likes this album.Chrisette Michelle has a voice like some of the great women singers in the 50's &60's.She has a nice voice!!!
