Outstanding gadget

Outstanding gadget. You can have an ethernet network in you house using just the power lines and also have it connect and extend your wireless network, too. Worked well right out of the box. Simple set-up -- only took 10-15 minutes to set up and worked right the first time. Have been using for two months and still works well.
Never seemed to work right for me

The concept is great, but this never seemed to work for me. I might have gotten a dud, but back to Amazon it went.
Known defective product - negative stars 2008-02-17
Was informed by tech support, after an hour following their directions, that the reason I could not configure kit was that the sample was defective and I should exchange it. Had the same problem with the exchanged kit, with both units plugged into the same outlet. When told the second kit was defective, too, I asked tech support if they where getting complaints about the kit. Was informed that there were many complaints, and that was why they were no longer marketing the product. Save your money.

The device works as advertised and boosted the conenctivity of my wireless computer by using the electical wiring in my walls. While researching the product the technical advisor for Actiontec told me to make sure that the outlet that I planned to use the megaplug in was on the same circuit breaker system as the wireless router. otherwise the device won't work. This takes an inexpensive signal detector form radioShack to make sure that it works as advertised. My computer is several rooms away from my router and the Megaplug guarentees me an excellent conenction all the time whereas before I had a weak signal and often lost the conenction.
easy install & setup, working flawless 2007-11-22
I live in an apartment with concrete walls, I had problems connecting with my current WiFi router in some rooms, so after making a quick research I decided that this was a good solution.
It didn't take too much time installing and setting it up, just plug the adapter first, set it up as instructed, then plug the extender, setup as instructed and after that everything is working flawless, I have resolved my problems and now have 100% coverage at home.
So far all Pros and no Cons for me

Actiontec MegaPlug 85 Mbps Ethernet Adapter and Wireless Extender
This looked like exactly the product I needed that would let us use our laptops in our back yard. Unfortunately, we apparently have some defect in our wiring that prevents it from working. At least that is what Tech Support at Actiontec told me.
Our house was built in 1920, but much of the wiring has been replaced, so I had no reason to believe it would not work.
I received and tried to setup this product on a Monday, and called Tech Support as soon as I realized it was not working. They asked me no questions, but just said it was probably defective and I should send it back. I used Amazon's amazing return process, and received a replacement on Thursday of the same week.
The same exact problem occured with the new units, and I called Actiontec again. This time, the technician asked me a few questions, but said the same thing. Either it works or it doesn't. If it doesn't, there is nothing you can do.
One thing the technician told me that contradicted the Actiontec material was that the product does not work through a breaker box. He said that if your house is wired with home-run lines, it will not work. His claim was that it would only work if your house was wired in a loop from the main breaker box.
Needless to say, I packed up the product again, and am returning it to Amazon for the last time.
The Actiontec web site has no technical support for this product. The documentation is seriously lacking. I would give this product and the manufacturer zero stars, if I could.
The good news is that Amazon stands behind their products, and I have paid nothing to return the product twice.
