SUCKS!!! I HATE THIS THING
2008-05-29
This thing sucked, its totally uncomfortable to sit in- you cant even "sit back" and relax. And then when you turn it on, i found myself moving the whole time the things are "massaging" your back. It wasnt enjoyable at all, my husband really wanted to get it for me online, and so we did. However i used it once and then took it back!
Not what I Hoped

It works very well on the section of your back it massages. However, it does not reach to the very low back, nor to the upper back. I am 5' 6" and it massages at the bottom of the shoulder blades. If it just did more of the back, I would be much more excited about my purchase.

This cushion performs exactly as I had hoped, and it has really provided relief from the pain in my lower back. Delivery was very fast.

Homedics QRM-400H Therapist Select Quad-Roller Massaging Cushion with Heat
This is one of the items that my wife wanted for Christmas. I ordered it from Amazon. As usual, it was quickly delivered to my residence. The unit works very well. My wife is very pleased with it. I don't usually have back problems, but I have used the unit myself. It is very relaxing, and helps unwind at the end of a hectic day. There were a few negative reviews of this product, but we have been using it since December 2007, and so far do not have any complaints.
Works for a couple weeks...

WARNING: I have had two of these massage chairs over the past couple of years and have had the same problem with both of them and have ended up throwing both of them away.
On both chairs, after a couple months of normal use, the massage mechanism starts to make strange noises and the massage turns into nothing more than a loud machine poking you.
After complaining to customer service and requesting a new chair to replace my first one, they promptly sent me a new one. They told me to throw the old one away. Well, about a month later the same issue arose. I have now sent that one to the trash as well. Maybe the newer, non-roller SBM-300H has a better construction -- I don't plan to find out!
If you want a good massage chair and you want it to last, you have to buy one of those ridiculous $4000 chairs...wish I could buy one of those!
Anyway, unless you want to keep returning/exchaning the chair every couple months, I advise against buying this chair. And, sadly, I cannot give you an alternate. If anyone knows of another company that makes Shiatsu massage chairs, please relply to my post!
I gave it a two instead of a 1 because Homedics has excellent customer service -- at least they try their best to make customers happy.
To be clear, I am a 185-pound bodybuilder, so my weight is not an issue in the massage mechanism issues.

I use my massager almost every day. It sure helps remove the tensions in my back. The hardness may seem rough for the first week but afterwards you appreciate it plus you can always add towels to soften the rollers. I do wish it was longer since it doesn't reach the base of my neck or go to the bottom of my spine and I'm 5'7". The heat turns on quick and definitely helps. The rollers don't move smoothly and shudders sometimes; I found some dry lubricant from the hardware store and spray it onto the rollers, which helps. I wish the blue lights would shutoff but I guess you can use them as night lights or unplug the unit. The demo button combines all the motions one at a time and I actually like the setting but unfortunately it last only a minute. That's my review; hope it helps you.
Have a great Shiatsu massage.

Homedics QRM-400H Therapist Select Quad-Roller Massaging Cushion with Heat I have a bad back and have been told that Shiatsu is great for that, so while on a cruise I decided to splurge and get one. My spine snaped into place in a dozen spots and I felt really great.
The Homedics 400 has 4 rollers and the only model that duplicated that feeling I got from the massage. By the way the massage on board ship cost almost $300.00
Half A Happy Back?
2008-06-25
I made my choice to spend $149. because of the quad-rolling and roller mechanism when compaired to 3 lesser models. Well, had I known that this only goes HALF-WAY UP BACK, also unknowingly that there was a '500' model for $50 more bucks to reach the rest of my back, I would have gotten that one. It feels really good where it does reach but as it stands, next month I will probably give this one away to a friend that has ONLY lower to mid back pain(a fellow Veteran buddy of mine) and buy the 500 model. I think this item falsely identifies itself as a full back massager....maybe if they spent the money and research and developement on that instead of the, albeit cool, blue LED lights that work while it is on, it would be a better product. If I were strapped for cash, would send it back and go through all that hassle and restocking fees but am not so, BUYER BEWARE!!! I wish I didn't have to write my first bad review from internet shopping. I even called manufacturer in case something was wrong with my machine....but evidently there have been no complaints in munchkin land, as the 400 gets ALL their back! A lot of money for what it actually does!
Quad Roller massage gushion

A real bummer, over rated, the rollers are very hard on the back even with a couple of towel for cushions, nice if you enjoy discomfort.
Not Bad At All

This massager does a pretty decent job. I like a firm massage and this unit gets it done. I agree with other reviewers that it would be nice in a taller version that could massage up to the shoulders. For me, this product is well worth the money.
