FATAL DESIGN FLAW! Chewed up the fabric cover!

Homedics' reputation could suffer from this lemon. The third time I used the pillow it decided to eat itself. Until then, I really liked it. I own the Homedics Quad-Roller back cushion with heat, and have no problem with it. I plan on buying another shiatsu unit for my neck, but without the whole pillow nonsense. I can put a pad or towel on top of a plain-jane unit and suffer a lot less aggravation.
Worth every penny....

I typically don't take the time to write reviews, but I was so impressed with this product I felt compelled to do so ... if you have neck or back pain you should give this a shot! This product has given me great relief from neck, shoulder and back pain. I have disc degeneration in my neck, which causes severe pain at times. This pillow has worked miracles for me. The massaging action is wonderful and the heat is a bonus! I found this to be just as effective as a neck massage with a massage therapist. For the price, you can't go wrong!

I purchased this massager for my back and neck. I have Fibromyalgia and it really feels wonderful. I bought one for my son who has back problems and it is a relief for him too. For the price, this is a great massager. The shiatsu movement really helps those "knots" in your neck and back. I want to get the full back cushion next. I highly recommend this, it is a real bargain!!

after a week it started to make a noise and now it feels it doesnt have the power like it first did. maybe i put too much pressure on it. not sure, but it does work well. i do recommend it.

I would have given this massager 5 stars for it's effectiveness, but like other reviewers have said, the interior got caught in the mechanism within 3 weeks and it totally stopped working. I have no way to return it because I don't have the box anymore, nor do I have my receipt! I have owned many Homedics massagers in the past and some have "burned out" after some time, but the best one I have found is the BKK 100. I ordered the SP10H for it's soft pillow, however Homedics needs to correct the flaw in the design so the batting and massage mechanism are separate!!! I can't recommend this product.

I think this is overall an okay product. I always have terrible tension in my neck and although it felt great, it didn't really get the soreness out.
Next Best Thing, So Far, To Having a Personal Masseus 2008-05-08
I'll start off by saying that I have chronic lower back pain, as well as frequent muscle spasms in my middle and upper back, and I go to physical therapy for it. Recently I was having a bout of back spasms that were so bad I couldn't even sleep, and couldn't get to the therapist, so I took a chance and bought this massager, hoping it'd bring some relief. The very next day after using this, I was feeling almost completely better.
I've tried many massagers over the years, but none have worked so well as this one. It really is great for a deep muscle massage. The rotating heads (or whatever they're called) inside it provide that wonderful pleasure/pain sensation of a masseus rubbing their knuckles into your sore muscles. It's important you are careful about how hard you lean back into it, and make sure that the pillow is positioned correctly so that your spine is between the rotating thingies and isn't actually being hit by them, but that's easy to do. I love that you can adjust how hard the massage is by just adjusting how much you lean back into the pillow. For my lower back pain - which requires quite a bit of pressure in the muscles to get any relief - the pillow has an uncanny way of hitting JUST THE RIGHT SPOT!
Although it's very helpful for all areas on the back, and even for muscle pain in the chest or stomach area, it's not very effective for using on the back of the neck, simply because the design is meant for a larger area. However, since it IS effective for massaging the upper back and shoulders, by bringing relief to those muscles it can, I imagine, help neck pain. Oh, and added bonus: it's not bad for use as a foot massager, too!
I'm giving this 5 stars because I just don't have any complaints about it, and it's helped me so much! Plus, the design is just very well thought-out, with some nice extra touches to the design. There's a flap over the front which covers the massager heads. You have the choice of keeping this down to cushion the massage, or lift it up and back if you want even more pressure and heat. I also appreciate the fact they gave it an extra long power cord and a velcro tie attached to it for easy wrapping-up. It's an attractive enough pillow, too, that you don't have to put it away when you're done, but just leave it on your favorite chair for the next time you want to use it. Which, for me, is going to be pretty much every day. :)

I've done everything. I've had other crappy massagers. It doesn't work the neck, I agree, but is fantastic on the low back! If you like a slightly painful massage and have low back issues (I have L5-S1 spondylythesis), this is for you. Between this and lavender bath salts, I haven't needed a massage in a few months (I used to go 2X month). For the price in relation to the effect and convenience, I give it 5 stars.
self destructive! 2008-04-28
I have bought this product 2 times and 2 times I have had to return it! The fabric inside get caught in the spinning motor and the pillow crinkles in to itself. The motor stops working and if you don't turn it off quick enough the motor will burn and smell horrible!
