Wow! This is a great little peice. I didnt think I was going to use it very much. It was initially just going to be for workouts 2-3 times per week so I wanted to stay away from the pricier alternative. now it comes with me everywher I go. Sound quality is perfect, super easy to download music. I recommend this to anyone I know who doesnt have an MP3.
Can't beat it for the price

My first problem with the Toshiba Gigabeat was that it came with only two lines of instructions on one small piece of paper. (I did however find a full set of instructions 'online', BY ACCIDENT, in PDF format.) Anyway, although the instructions on the small paper in the box "seemed" to be 'a step 1' and 'a step 2', they were actually, totally, unrelated instructions. This caused me to feel that I had a dysfunctional unit when I implemented those two instructions 'in sequence'. Then I realized that the 2 lines of instructions were unrelated, so I simply implemented the first instruction ONLY, and that got things started (i.e. charging the unit.) But then, other information in the package said that hooking the (charged) unit to a USB port would automatically bring-up Windows Media Player 10 or 11. This did NOT happen. So, I manually brought up Windows Media Player to try to configure the Toshiba Gigabeat, but Windows Media Player wouldn't recognize it. Fortunatley, I looked at the "My Computer" file manager, and saw that my (Vista) operating system WAS recognizing it. So, I merely draggged-and-dropped my music (from a folder on my hard drive) into the Toshiba Gigabeat (shown as "drive F" in "My Computer"), and all has work fine since then.
awesome deal!

This was my first MP3 player, so far I am very pleased with it. They said it would be shipped in 5-7 days, and it came in 3. Its very easy to use and the display is easy to see and read. The radio feature is really nice and the sound is clear. If you want to nice MP3 player to just listen to music, without all the gadgets and gizmos, this is an awesome deal.

I bought the Toshiba Gigabeat as a Christmas present for my wife. I bought a lot of my wife's favorite songs to load it with. She loves it. Plays it every day mostly on FM one of the reasons I selected the Gigabeat. My birthday is coming up, perhaps she will get me one. I would love that.

I have not used this an awful lot. It has its ups and downs but most of the downs are not related to the core functionality of the player. It seems to play fine with good sound. The screen is nice, it's very compact and the controls are fairly simple and well done.
So what's wrong with it?
- it does not come with a holster thingy so right now I have it jammed into an old one. how much would it cost for them to put a strap and a plastic holster in the package? 10 cents?
- it forces you to "upgrade" to the newest Media Player. I *MUCH* prefer the ability to plug in and have it show up as a removable disk. the MP-based scheme is much more cumbersome (to me) and the stupid thing even snuck a small handful of crap promo songs into my MP3 player without me knowing.
- documentation is crap. what's worse is that the old Media Player (before the DRM stuff started appearing) *seems* to work -- it goes so far as to show a progress bar when downloading -- but does not. There is no sense why it is not working and you will only know the Gigabeat is not broken if you yourself break down and install the latest Media Player.
good for a first mp3

I have had this mp3 player for a few weeks and it does it's job...I didn't have any problems getting it started on my computer....I didn't realized the screen would be that small so that was a shocker....the earbuds actually don't fit my ears well, so I'll say if you have small ears you may have problems with the earbuds staying put....I like other Toshiba products so that's why I chose this mp3 player and I didn't want what everyone else had.....this is a good choice for a simple mp3 player that can store a good bit of music.
